Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

[*UPDATED*] Following Lil Nog’s Withdrawal, Chael Sonnen Wants in Against ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 161

(Coming Soon: The Pooricio “No Guns” Rua Chicken Sliders.)

Well, well, well. Guess who’s lobbying to replace an injured fighter on short notice again?

Yesterday, we informed you that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira had to pull out of his UFC 161 bout with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua less than two weeks before they were scheduled for their much-anticipated rematch. The UFC insists that “Shogun” is staying on the card, but the former champ needs an opponent and who in their right mind wants to fight someone as good as Rua on such short notice?

You guessed it, Frank Stallone Chael “P-Money” Sonnen:

BOOM! ROASTED. In case you’re wondering, Rua has not responded to Sonnen on twitter.

Sonnen is little more than a month removed from dominating one of Jon Jones’ toes and getting his own ass kicked by the rest of the champ. The loss was Sonnen’s second consecutive and his third loss in his last five fights. All three of those losses have come at the hands of men named either Jon Jones or Anderson Silva, so it isn’t as if Chael is losing to schmucks. He is losing, though,

What do you say, nation? Do you want to see Sonnen step in against “Shogun?” If not him, then who would you rather see in the spot?

*UPDATE* Globo is now reporting that Sonnen has indeed been signed to face Rua. More details to come.

I like Gustafson a lot. I think he's very good and he will be great. I rewatched a couple of his recent fights, though, and I just don't think he's even close to his potential yet. I think Chael is too small for 205 - his game is just too strength/weight based but, I also wouldn't be surprised to see him ride Gus like a mule for 3 rounds. Gus reminds me of a bigger, more athletic but far less cerebral and precise Machida. He just doesn't have the precision, footwork or ridiculous sumo hips that Machida's got and I can easily see Chael exploiting that.

@algiers - Chael wants no part of Gustafsson. I think he gets murdered by Gustafsson. Not literally of course, but as close as one can come to murder and still be legal.

Why wouldn't Chael "step up" and take short notice fights? Short notice fights have no downside to his career. He's not likely to be in real title contention and the UFC has already demonstrated that his losses don't impact his place with the organization.

Why do I have this feeling somehow chael will fight gusstafson

Don't get me wrong. I like Chael, especially now that I understand his schtick is all an act. It's like he's sarcastically making light of all the stupid aspects of the fight game blatantly to everybody's face and the very people he is making fun of are so stupid they don't even understand they are the butt of the joke.

I just don't think he wins this fight, or many other fights at LHW.

Say what you want about Chael, but he stepped up,again on short notice to take a tough fight.

Hmmmm...Rogerio gets injured and Chael, once again, is 'conveniently' in shape and ready to replace him just like he was when Dan Henderson got hurt. Conclusion: Lil' Nog is training with Chael at team Quest.

I would love to see this fight. Sonnen wins me over with his balls (however small they might be from steroids) in taking short-notice fights against such formidable opponents.

@Get Off Me
Have you seen either Lil Nog or Shogun fight in the past 2 years? The first fight was good because they were both up-and-coming fighters. This is 9 years worth of brain trauma later. I'm sure they'd be capable of putting on a sloppy brawl at this point, but I'd much rather see Shogun try to grapple with Sonnen then watch him throw haymakers for 3 rounds at a spent opponent.

Sonnen/Rua a better match up than Lil Nog/Rua? Ever see the first match between Lil Nog and Shogun? If history is any indicator this would have been quite the rematch. If people don't want to see 50 takedown Rashad, what do you think Chael is going to try and do against Rua? If Chael steps in fine, but it's gonna be Chael sitting in Rua's guard unless Shogun KO's Sonnen.

I would love nothing more than to see shogun use his skullcrushing hammerfists on sonnen...shogun on trt would be champ again
JayJitsu310- June 3, 2013 at 9:33 am
@Fried Taco - He should be trying to duck Shogun. Either way it's going to be his 3rd consecutive loss.

Hmmm...I wonder what Rhonda's mom has to say about it
Pen Fifteen- June 3, 2013 at 9:32 am
I'd pay for that shit. This is actually a better matchup than Nog-Rua.
The12ozCurls- June 3, 2013 at 9:31 am
This PPV card desperately NEEDS a little attention and Sonnen definately brings that. I'm in. Does that mean that they are going to make Shogun VS Sonnen the main event in lieu of the boring "50 take-down" Rashad VS Hendo fight?
Fried Taco- June 3, 2013 at 9:25 am
Chael is just trying to duck Wandy.
