Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Former UFC Fighter and Bellator Signee Maiquel Falcao Suffers a Heart Attack

(Photo courtesy of, if you couldn’t tell.)

According to multiple sources, UFC veteran and recent Bellator signee Maiquel “Big Rig” Falcao suffered a heart attack in training this past weekend, the cause of which has yet to be determined. His manager has stated the following:

Maiquel is still on the Intensive Care Unit and might stay there for few more days, when he’ll go through a catheterization. He’s lucid and improving fast.

Falcao’s lone octagon appearance, a decision victory over TUF 7 alum Gerald Harris, was memorable for a multitude of reasons. Not only did a timing error deny Falcao nearly 7 seconds to finish a rear naked choke on Harris in the first round (one which even Dana White though Harris would have tapped to), but the third round would become an exercise in tedium as neither fighter would engage. Bizarre to say the least, made all the more disappointing by the fact that Falcao had been so dominant up to that point over a tough guy in Harris.

Falcao was arrested just a few days after in relation to 2002 assault charge and was sentenced to 24 months of house arrest. Though scheduled to face Tom “The Glimmer Man” Lawlor at UFC 134, “Big Rig” was released from the UFC as a result of the charges. Falcao has gone 2-1 since, with both wins coming by way of first round TKO. His signing to Bellator was made official at Bellator 54 on October 15th.

When you all inevitably find your way to the bars tonight, do us a solid and raise a glass in the hopes that he has a full recovery.

Thanks for the follow-up. I tracked what you said. Never thought to think it was Cocaine induced, but from Shawn Tompkins death...I see there is likely a good dose of high-quality blow to be found. Suppose there is something to be said about sports-on the GO.
From a marketing-brand perspective, I wonder how this damage to the heart will affect his fight game at the top level?

Read all the comments. Sounds like he is not a good sport. But, I do hope he recovers. Death is forever.

Ditto @ Badger and NinjaVanish. His style belongs in a war zone not in the ring with respected MMA's.

Yeah gonna have to agree with Badger here, that last stoppage should have ended in an lengthy, if not permanent suspension for him.

@Danga Did you watch his "highlight" reel? I will not "raise a glass in hopes that he has a full recovery." Rather, I will hope his condition is career ending. MMA doesn't need any more fighters who refuse to stop when the ref intervenes. The last stoppage was obscene. He deserves a couple soccer kicks to the face. I have no patience for goons like Falcao.
Also, after 4-5 years of obsessively visiting CP anywhere from 1-20 times a day (I have wicked ADD), I am moving on. MMAFighting will be my new productivity drain. CP will always hold a special place in my heart, but the last 6 months have been unbearable.

It's cocaine-induced coronary vasospasm, or a substance with similar mechanism of action on the coronary endothelium. No one his age get's an MI from atherosclerosis...or it's a misnomer and is not a "heart attack" but another heart pathology that can cause sudden cardiac death like, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (cause of sudden death in young athletes) for example...

When the nurse asks you if you're ready for your catheter, the answer is no.

Falcao for some reason reminds me of a Baboon - likely straight off the limb of a tree to chase down a hyena.
From all those edits, lots of punching (fairly accurate and hard shots) but not one real scene with any showcase of his ground game.
Anyways, let me ask the "juice" specialists. Which kinds of controlled or non-testable elixirs come with a risk of heart-attack?
