Frank Trigg vs. Josh Koscheck On for UFC 103

Sources have confirmed to MMA Junkie
that the rumored bout between returning welterweight contender Frank Trigg and perennial threat Josh Koscheck will indeed take place at UFC 103 (September 19th, Dallas); bout agreements have been sent out are expected to be signed shortly. Though his last two UFC appearances resulted in first-round rear-naked choke losses to Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre, Trigg is now on a four-fight win streak, including wins over Edwin Dewees and Falaniko Vitale. Koscheck is coming off an upset knockout loss against Paulo Thiago to UFC 95 in February, and needs a win to still be considered one of the best 170-pounders in the division.

UFC 103 will come just three days after UFC Fight Night 19 (September 16th, Oklahoma City), which will serve as a lead-in to the season premiere of For the Love of Kimbo.

In other fight-booking news…

Ben Rothwell will be making his Affliction return at "Trilogy" (August 1st, Anaheim) against 6-0 up-and-comer Chase Gormley, who holds notable wins over Jon Murphy and Eric Pele. Rothwell’s last appearance was a first-round TKO over Chris Guillen at Adrenaline MMA II.

— Japanese bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki, whose five-rounder against Miguel Torres at WEC 40 became an instant Fight of the Year candidate, will be looking to score his first win in the U.S. against Jeff Curran at WEC 42 (August 9th, Las Vegas). Curran has lost his last three fights against Urijah Faber, Mike Brown, and Joseph Benavidez. WEC 42 will be headlined by the bantamweight title fight between Miguel Torres and Brian Bowles.

Wrestler vs wrestler doesn't usually end up being a lay n pray.. wrestler vs striker/bjj maybe, but wrestlers usually are good enough at what they do to counter eachother well which often leads to a striking match or scrappy back and forth grappling. Think Griffin/Edgar, Cotoure/Lesnar, Hughes/Trigg (both times), Hammil/headkick victim, griffin/sherk, Edgar/Sherk, CB/other good wrestler (Masenzo?), fitch/gsp, hughes/gsp (all 3).. I could go on and on. Wrestler vs wrestler fights are actually usually quite entertaining.

This makes twice I have noticed you have gone out of your way to look like an asshole IRONCLOD! you need a chill pill.....everybody KNOWS that cupcake and twinkle-toes "bread and butter" is wrestling, so stop getting on your high horse acting like you fucking know anything about MMA. It doesn't matter how much they both like to stand and bang now they are known as wrestlers, so shut the fuck up Mr. knee-jerk reactionary man.

Hey Sheps,

Are you a fucking retard? Please tell me good sir, what about these two guys would leads you to believe that they will lay on each other....especially the way they fight now? Hey homeboy, I'm glad you dusted of them UFC No. 60's but in case your rock doesn't have cable or internet....these guys have evolved since then.

I'd like to see Trigg issue a pummeling to Kos, despite how skeptical I am that it'll actually happen.

@ Karate
Word. I'm not sure Trigg is ready for Kos. I want to see a Diego and Koscheck rematch. The first one sucked. Koscheck is taking on all newcomers....or maybe all comers, who the fuck knows, but Trigg and Kos will be a good fight.

I've got Koscheck by 2nd round TKO. The UFC is really throwing Trigg into the fire right off the bat. You know Koscheck wants to avenge his last lost to Paulo Thiago!

True dat, true dat.

@Jay Smith

It was a prediction not a suggestion. Maybe it would be smarter for Josh to use his wrestling.. but that doesn't mean that's what he's going to do. Just ask Sean Sherk ;)

Oh for crying out loud, another wrestler vs wrestler..... Jesus christ they might as well get Gray Maynard in there and he can tell the audience about his collegiate wrestling days for 15 minutes.

This will be a great fight. Both are talented but Koscheck is odviously a better fighter. I'd put the dough on Koscheck but Trigg is dangerous...unless of course your on his back. I hope he worked on his jitz.

As for douches, yah I can see that but i've come around to Koscheck. I used to hate his guts but the boy can fight. I think Frank Trigg is a pretty cool dude, he can get upitty from time to time but a good fighter, a good sports pesonality and im stoked to see him in the UFC.

I still hate rashad....he's a killer and all but still a fucker. I hope Rampage butt rapes that dude when it comes time for black on black crime, num saying?

Poor Jeff Curran. He is being used as a punching bag for all of the top fighters!

Trigg! Trigg! Trigg! Trigg!

Trigg has won his last four fights? I haven't seen any of them. How did he look, anyone?
Old_Bald_and_Irish- June 4, 2009 at 11:08 am
Wow....this is like rooting for the lesser of two evils.

...Josh is a little less douchey. Kos by TKO second round.
Dana Mother Fcuking White- June 4, 2009 at 10:58 am
Koscheck by rear naked choke.

I agree with Josh getting the win bro, but don't you think it will be smarter for Josh to use his wrestling against Trigg. I just think Trigg is the better striker. Kos' striking has come a long way, but I don't think his stand up is as good as Triggs. Trigg has better use of knees and elbows in the clinch, and I think an all around better stand up game making it more dangerous for Kos to "play" there. But, if Kos takes him down, I think he can control the fight there and inflict more damage with gnp. What do you think?
ArmFarmer- June 4, 2009 at 10:24 am
Josh should win this one and I hope he does, he needs to get back on track after the robbery that was his last fight. Don't argue with me just look at the pics CP posted.. ironically right after they posted the article claiming it wasn't an early stoppage. Kos should take this one, my guess would be by outstriking trigg and stuffing his takedowns.
Jay Smith- June 4, 2009 at 10:17 am
I goin with Josh, although I think he'll need his g-n-p to pull out the win.
