- Come on Punchy, even Dan Hardy gets 4 chances. The comments about exoskeletons was merely a intentional 'Red Herring', put in other words is means for deflecting attention from being so serious.
- I'll be blunt...Cage Potato is full of heavy hitters, after checking out many of the other fake or sponsored websites I know this to be true. If I was mean, then I apologize to each.
- Yet, I suspect there are no pussies to be found here. My rule is simple. No women, no kids. Paid fluffers, I will seek them out and strike them down with more vengeance and fury witnessed since Miyamoto Musashi walked the earth. (GRIN)
- As for Bruce Lee. Well, he did use grappling. Look at the opening sequence of "Enter the Dragon" and the final fight in "Game of Death".
- I read Lee fought and lost to Gene LeBell on 3 separate occasions. Once as Green Hornet, Gene picked him up over his head, and ran with him down a street. After this Lee realized the needed to have a ground game. Though I will give it to you that due to the era, and generational gap his ground game was less developed than that of Royce Gracie, during his peek (UFC-1 thru UFC 5). Today, through no fault of his, Gracie is less than competitive.
- Bruce trained with Wally Jay (Small Circle Jiu-Jitsu) and also Hayward Nishyoka a Judo champion. Additionally, Bruce's first students (Jesse Glover and Taky Kimura) were trained in judo while Ed Hart had a fair amount of experience in wrestling.
- Lee was not stranger to the ground game, espeically later in his career. Remember the movie studios and even the fight audiences of the 60's was not interested in two men wallowing around on the ground like children fighting over a candy bar.
- But to get back to grappling, here is a fact all fighters here should have been told by their trainers. If not, they can find better. A according to author, musician, neuro-scientist, Daniel Levitin there is whats called the 10,000 hour rule.
- Ten thousand hours of practice is required to achieve the level of mastery associated with being a world-class expert — in anything. In study after study, of composers, basketball players, fiction writers, ice skaters, concert pianists, chess players, master criminals, and what have you, this number comes up again and again.
- Ten thousand hours is the equivalent to roughly three hours per day, or twenty hours per week, of practice over ten years. About 3 years of continuous dedicated training. Outside of genetics, or mental strength, this is as good as it gets for most all.
- We know Gracie's success was reliant on the 10,000 rule. Aside from age or weight differences, the one missing piece in the Gracie vs. Lee question would be this. For how long was it that Bruce honed his ground game.
- Since Gene spanked Lee's ass during the Green Hornet, we know for a fact that occurred between 1966-1967. If you didn't know, Royce was born in 1966. Bruce Lee was already making movies at that time. Lee died in 1973.
- That would have given him at least 6 years to incorporate and perfect his ground skills. You can make the case that 6 years was enough time for Royce Gracie to get potty-trained and off his momma's tit.
- Bruce Lee's speed and accuracy was well known to be unparalleled. There was no MMA when he was competing, but he never lost a match. Was 6 years enough for Bruce Lee to plug the deficiency in a style, a game he undoubtedly owned?
