P.S. Im more than a little shitty at the moment (I spell checked my shit to make sure I didnt get overlooked by all the "intellectuals") but since I had to spend countless, irreplaceable mins to simply register, you can all bet my two cents will be cast in many topics to come.
(that's in quotes because they are fighters, sure, but I don't think they are very good fight analysts. presumably they spend a lot of time training and not much time watching other fighters.)
"I think that you’ll see a more crisp Rashad landing strikes on the feet and definitely more sound takedowns." - Joe 'Dummy' Stevenson
Yeah, because strikers have been landing on Machida left and right. Like Thiago Silva for example. Tore up Machida fo' sho'. And not as recently, Rich Franklin and Stephen Bonnar had similar success.
"I really don’t want to watch two guys try not to get hit for 25 minutes."
Amen to that, brutha. I think we can expect at least 60 seconds of dancing in round 1.
"The problem is both are counter fighters. I think Lyoto is more patient, but saying that, I can see Greg Jackson making a strategy that forces Lyoto to come forward. Rashad has great stand-up and great wrestling. Both guys have KO power. Both use fantastic footwork to set up their attacks. Lyoto works best against an aggressive fighter."
Elvis always has a long comment and usually it's some of the smartest analysis of Sherdog's 'pros'. There are a few problems with his statements, though.
Machida has said and done numerous things lately that show he is extremely serious about succeeding the UFC.
1. Learning English. All top-level fighters train their asses off and have no free time. But the dude is setting aside time to learn English, because he knows he can't connect with the fans if he can't communicate to them. Smart mofo.
2. Being aggressive. He DOES initiate, and he's been quoted many times recently that he knows he has to not only win, but to be exciting. Tito has never been great on his feet, but he was never in range to hit Machida anyway due to Machida's use of distance. Machida definitely was not waiting to counter against Tito. Silva is an aggressive striker but if you watch the fight again, he gets peppered by Machida even when he doesn't initiate. *Machida is not just a counter fighter.*
3. Fighting wherever it is necessary to win. Machida will take people down and ground-n-pound. He will initiate strikes. He will use range and counterpunch. Anderson Silva used to do this too, but sadly now he prefers to counter and won't follow a fighter to the ground... to the extent of Ed Soares trying to convince us on MMAWeekly that it's perfectly reasonable that he didn't aggressively finish Leites. If Machida has a chance, he will try finish Evans no matter where the fight is occurring.
I predict some dancing but then a great fight. If Evans wins, it's either by Pulling a Serra, or that he is the Chosen One. Evans is a great athlete but Machida is a far better fighter.
That fat fuck of a person got rocked. And his buddy hit him with the ATV also which was pretty cool. Pretty lame Friday Link dump though.
