Marcus Villegas from FightHub TV caught up with Gary Shaw at last weekend’s Chad Dawson vs. Bernard Hopkins event and the former EliteXC president revealed that he attempted to sign Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to his promotion back in 2007 prior to the former PRIDE fighter signing with the UFC.
“I know Rampage,” Shaw revealed. “I tried to sign him when I was with EliteXC.”
Shaw said that he would be interested in working with the former UFC light heavyweight champ if he is serious about moving over to boxing once his UFC contract expires.
“Really good fighter. Love to have him a part of the Gary Shaw stable,” Shaw said. “So he can call my office, I’ll take his call and look to sign him.”
Whe asked if a potential fight between Jackson and Shaw’s meal ticket, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, was a possibility down the road in spite of their difference in weight classes, Shaw seemed somewhat reluctant to discuss such a bout.
“We’ll see. Right now Rampage hasn’t called me so I’ll just have to keep going with Kimbo.”
On an unrelated note, Shaw says that a rumored bout between Kimbo and DaDa 5000 is likely not happening.
“Not that I know of, so whoever those sources are should call me.”
