Gambling Addiction Enabler: Strikeforce – Carano vs. Cyborg

(The temptation to suggest a tickle fight for the belt must have been damn near overwhelming for Scott Coker.)
As Strikeforce bravely soldiers on toward what was supposed to be an epic event on Showtime before being brought back down to earth via a gypsy curse, it’s time we take a look at the fights oddsmakers are still offering betting lines on. With Jesse Taylor in as a replacement for Nick Diaz against Jay Hieron, most online bookmakers are staying away from it at the moment. Either they feel poet laureate “JT Money” is too much of an unknown quantity as a last-minute replacement, or they just assume that Nick Diaz will show up on fight night, stoned out of his mind, and refuse to allow this fight to go on without him. We’re hoping for the latter.
The most favorable lines on the internet come to us courtesy of BestFightOdds.com:
Gina Carano (+161) vs. Cris “Cyborg” Santos (-170)
Renato “Babalu” Sobral (+200) vs. Gegard Mousasi (-205)
Mitsuhiro Ishida (+200) vs. Gilbert Melendez (-215)
Mike Kyle (+435) vs. Fabricio Werdum (-515)
The breakdown…
- When you think about it, -170 is a pretty good line on Cyborg. Some places have her as high as -200, and you have to think that some ardent Carano-lovers are probably betting with their hearts/loins and bringing the line down.
Look, if this were a beauty contest we know who would win, just like we know who would be hired to work security. But this is a fight. Carano’s greatest strength is her stand-up, which is exactly where Santos wants this fight. If it becomes a kickboxing match, Carano has to rely on being the better technician or else she’ll get steamrolled by Cyborg’s superior power. And honestly? Nothing we’ve seen so far from Carano makes us think that she's quite that slick. Cyborg takes this via late TKO.
- You have to expect Mousasi to be the favorite because of what he’s accomplished so far, but if you look into who he’s beat and how there’s some cause for concern. Lately he’s been submitting the strikers and outstriking the grapplers. Sobral can do a little of both, though he’d much rather have this on the mat if he can get it there. That’s where he’s going to run into problems. “Babalu” has never been known for his unavoidable takedowns, which means Mousasi will likely get to dictate the pace in this one. If that happens, it’s trouble for Sobral. Mousasi via TKO.
Absolutely Don’t Bet Against: Fabricio Werdum. Not only is he a much better fighter than Mike Kyle in all respects, but if you bet on Kyle and actually win, even though it will net you a nice payoff, you’re still going to feel like one of those dudes who did business with the Nazis.
Official Cage Potato Parlay: Santos + Mousasi + Melendez + Werdum. That should pretty much cover it.

One Two Says:
my problem with womens MMA and womens sports in general is i always just go for whose hotter i can't help it. i like ishida at +200 do the oddsmakers know something we don't? i see this fight as more of a coinflip.
Fedor vs. Bas Says:
Ugh, I was praising this card what felt like just a few weeks ago. Now it sucks. We're stuck with the biggest fight of the night being women's MMA, and thats just not my thing. No Diaz, no Alistair, no Josh T. Now I dont feel bad just going out and coming home from the bars and watching it drunk. Before I would have probably watched it live with some friends.
I hope Diaz shows up with a gold marijuana leaf hanging on a "Rampage" chain.
Just A Wrestler Says:
cyborg is gonna whip out her dick and smack gina in the face with it.
Swedish Says:
only lines on four fights? I guess I'm not the only one that doesn't care about this b-level card
Old_Bald_and_Irish Says:
The card is not as awesome as it was, but I've been waiting to see this fight since Cyborg crushed Shayna Baszler way back at EliteXC: Unfinished Business (LOL!) back in July of 08.
I've waited a year.
The rest of the card is decent.
But I wanna see this girl-fight.....bad!
dresdin Says:
William Hung looks like he is wondering if "she bangs, she bangs!"
kangerpang Says:
Who the hell wouldnt want to see two chicks beat each other up?
I guess Fedor vs. Bas doesnt, but i think thats got more to do with his lifestyle choice.
@ Just A Wrestler:
Awesome.
dresdin Says:
Scott Coker???? shouldn't you be at home with your son William Hung teaching him some new songs?
vyapaar Says:
I think gina carano will win this fight. Not saying it because she is the beautiful one...saying it coz even though cyborg looks tough and awesome, if you watched her last fight with the chick from japan trained by josh barnett...even though cyborg had such a weight advantage and all the skills, she had tough time finishing that chick. There is no way gina will let her punch her and not hit back. My money is on gina.
Old_Bald_and_Irish Says:
He feels our pain....

MMAMoneyLine Says:
I'm curious to see what the Hieron/Taylor line will be. Taylor has fought 5 times since Hieron's last fight...and I wonder if all the stress and confusion will be a problem for Hieron.
Gargoroth Says:
Is it just me or is it blatantly obvious that Cyborg is a post-op tranny? She has an adams apple that sticks out like a turd in a punch bowl. I am scared for Gina.
MyFightWiffaCheeto Says:
All you lil pervs better J-off to Carano one last time, 'cause after this fight she's gonna be uglier than Cyborg.
Marcer Says:
Gina could get her face eaten by a chimpanzee and still not be uglier than Cyborg.
MKXii Says:
Your parlays won't get you paid a damn thing.
Peppermint Nightmare Says:
Babalu will beat Mousasi. Bet on it.
Gina is dead.
rockybalboa25 Says:
Strikeforce better pray for a Gina win. She is their only mainstream bankable star. Before all the Fedor fanatics jump down my throat where are Affliction and Bodog right now?
Also I wouldn't be surprised if Gina tries the Florian method of clinching trying for takedowns to tire Cyborg out for the latter rounds.
J Akuma Says:
@ Rockybalboa25
And pride?
Cyborg had trouble putting the Japanese chick away? Really? 'Cuz what I saw was Cyborg mercilessly punishing her face. That fight lasting as long as it did shouldn't be a knock on Cyborg, but a compliment to Girlfight Monster.
What the hell was her real name anyhow?
Jay Smith Says:
I too think my main masturbation focus, is going to lose. Cyborg is....well......like a freakin Cyborg. I, like OBI, have been lookin forward to this fight for a long time. I will also risk ridicule and reveal that it's the fight on that card I want to see most.
Jay Smith Says:
By the way, is it me or is Scott Coker a little cuter than Cyborg in that picture?
Criminally Negligent Says:
What are the odds they both make weight? + 210?
munche Says:
Criminally Negligent for the win. They've both had major issues making weight before, and this card is obviously cursed. Every other title fight fell apart, and how much you want to bet one of them comes in overweight and it's contested non title?
Pac-Man Says:
God if I could bet that at least one of them won't make weight... I'd bet every god-damn thing I own on it and laugh all the way to the bank.
All joking aside, after this fight there should be a top (at least 5) pound-for pound woman MMA category in the power rankings.
Gargoroth Says:
Fedor who?
ArmFarmer Says:
Nobody gives a shit about Fedor, and after strikeforce allowed the fedor parasites (m1) to start leaching off of them I don't really give a shit about strikeforce. Wow Fedor vs a middleweight in an exhibition bout, thanks strikeforce that is so worth copromoting with those Russian losers.. you are going to get so many more viewers with that bout. They had a good thing going but it's ruined now, this is the beginning of the end for them.
Clyde Says:
Good point on the weight and the curse. Fortunately, they are unlikely to care and will have a rigged scale just in case. The giveaway will be when Werdum weighs in at around 230...
