Gambling Addiction Enabler: UFC 137 Edition

(Not yet………………………………..getting warmer…….)

UFC 137 is just around the bend, and since the lineup has made more changes than a MTV awards show host, we figured we’d lay out the current odds before something else horrible happens. So, courtesy of, check out the sweetest lines available, along with our time tested advice below.

PPV Main Card
B.J. Penn (-115) vs. Nick Diaz (-105)
Matt Mitrione (-135) vs. Cheick Kongo (+115)
Roy Nelson (-290) vs. Mirko Filipovic (+245)
Hatsu Hioki (-330) vs. George Roop (+270)
There is no line yet available for the recently bumped up Tavares/Jacoby fight.

Spike TV Prelims
Donald Cerrone (-225) vs. Dennis Siver (+185)
Tyson Griffin (-290) vs. Bart Palaszewski (+245)

The undercard odds have yet to be released as well, but we only bet big here, so forgeddaboutit!

The Main Event: With a line as even as Penn/Diaz, you might as well be basing your pick on attendance records at this point. Both are excellent submission artists with equally deadly striking and blocks of granite for chins. It has all the ingredients for one hell of a fight, but a hard one to invest in. If the fight is changed to a five rounder, which is still up in the air, you gotta think it favors Diaz, who can literally run, swim, and cycle miles around Penn. But Paul Daley was pretty damn close to finishing him in his last fight, I don’t care what anyone says. So if you think Penn is the man to actually put Diaz away, then a modest bet wouldn’t be a terrible decision.

The Good Dogs: If Cheick Kongo’s miracle win over Pat Barry taught us anything, it’s that the man can take a licking and keep on ticking. Does Mitrione have more power in his hands than Barry? Doubtful. Has he fought anyone even close to Kongo’s level? Nope. It’s not that Mitrione can’t win it, because Kongo has looked less than brilliant as of late, the Hail Mary knockout excluded. But Kongo’s experience should pay dividends if this goes into the later rounds, so a bet on him seems fair. Having been the underdog before, Siver is tempting at +185, but he barely eeked out the nod over Matt Wiman (which I believe he deserved) and Cerrone will dictate where and how the fight takes place.

The Easy Bet: Look, I am about as big a Cro Cop fan as you get get, but even I cannot see him winning this one. Nelson has a far superior ground game plus the power to knock Cro Cop out, which, let’s be honest, has been getting to be less and less of an accomplishment. And if Mirko couldn’t knockout the man Big Nog knocked out in half a round, then he aint’ doing it to “Big Country.” I see this one ending with Cro Cop flat on his back and looking up at the lights, wondering why in the hell he named his son Filip Filipovic.

Stay the Hell Away From: George Roop. The man has never been one for consistency, and though he has scored brilliant knockouts over Chan Sung Jung and Josh Grispi, he was also blown out of the water by Mark Hominick, and has dropped decisions to Eddie Wineland and Shane Nelson. Shane who you ask? Exactly. Hatsu Hioki takes this with ease.

Official CagePotato parlay: Kongo + Nelson + Cerrone
A bet of 50 bucks nets you $158.82, or enough to buy that UFC glove autographed by Fedor Emelianenko you’ve always wanted, though I imagine its asking price is only headed downhill.

And hey, Happy We Killed Another Terrorist Day!!

...good article, and great bit of analysis. If you keep it up, I could use a good bookie? GRIN
As for the terrorist link, his death had nothing to do with anything except that the Europeans want Libya's oil. The NATO led effort was nothing more than some gratuity to our allies for sticking it out as token partners to the US for the past 10 years.
We secured Baghdad, Saudi Arabia is safe from internal risk of overthrow from the same group of home grown Whabis who knocked down the trade centers and punched a hole throw the Pentagon in broad daylight.
So the real story is, Europe has bought some time with regionally supplied oil from North Africa. Most don't know Europe has zero natural oil in the ground, and the Scandinavian Brent crude is nearly close to being exhausted.
Their next best alternative source of energy was to rely on Russia. Not happening. Now that Moammar Gadhafi is gone, does anyone here really think its a coincidence that the White House announced a withdrawal from Iraq within 24 hours of the Mad Dog of the Deserts death?

those are horse betting odds bud.the easiest way to figure it out is like this

+100 and -100 = 1 to 1
+200 = 2 to 1 so youd bet $100 to win $200 which equals $300 if u win and so on
now goin the other way
-200 means u bet $200 to win $100 which equals $300 if u win
-300 means u need to bet $300 to win $100 and so on

That Hioki/Roop line is so downright idiotic you'd be foolish not to bet on it. Hioki will never win in the UFC so you might as well bet the farm on Roop. Find an example that proves to me that Hioki will win, and we'll talk.

Some than like this. As far as I know. Say someone is a +450. that means you bet 100 that's what you're gonna make. The + is the underdog. Say someone is -350. You'd have to bet 350 to make 100. Hope that helped.

Danga was using the 'royal we'. He claims he killed the motha-fucka. Ghaddafi terrorized the shit out of his own country for what, 30 years. He may not be a 'strap a bomb on me so I can fuck 94 virgins for eternity and get out of this self-imposed shitty assed living in a cave with a bunch of smelly dudes real life' terrorist but the word isn't far from the truth.

can someone once and for all explain the + / - odds system to me?

I am used to odds being like 4-1, 7-2, 10-1, 4-6 etc

Yeah I don't see Kongo and his stiff stand up coming close to tagging Mitrione, and Mitrione's punching power? I would wager with his reach and explosiveness that he hitys harder than Pat Barry, Mitrione by KO early. Siver vs Cerrone SHOULD be on the main event, I see cerrone taking a decision or possibly a sub. As for the main event I've said it before and I'l say it again, BJ by KO or TKO. I don't think Diaz has ever faced a guy with BJ's speed and skill with his hands and I really think that this fight will be a boxing match. I'm also giving BJ's chin the advantage, he has never been dropped, hell he's barely been rocked before where as Diaz has taken a lifetime of punishment on his chin and has been dropped numerous times before. BJ has a killer instinct and if he drops Nick I think he has the means to finish him, man I have never been more excited for a fight than this before.

Cerrone, Nelson, Mitrione. Done and done.
RwilsonR- October 20, 2011 at 8:20 pm
@ Fist of God - We certainly didn't kill him, but 270 people in Lockerbie, Scotland would probably agree with Danga's labeling... well, if they hadn't been killed in a terrorist attack, that is.
TellaTruth- October 20, 2011 at 8:14 pm
@ notsob, im w/you. Cerrone gets no love. As for the rest, the whole card ought to b free on spike.
myklhoey- October 20, 2011 at 7:51 pm
Well said fist of god
@skelator LOL you are a funny person i enjoy readin ur posts
NOTSOB- October 20, 2011 at 5:04 pm
I think G. Roop blows chunks, why is he on the main card and Cerrone vs siver isnt?
Fist of God- October 20, 2011 at 4:59 pm
@skeletor - First day posting but have read this site for years. Everything will be fine..... as long as they don't let Karma become more involved with the site.
just some dong- October 20, 2011 at 4:34 pm
Kongo sucks total shit. Mitrione all day.
skeletor- October 20, 2011 at 4:20 pm
@Fist od God - Is this your first day here? Everyone knows Danga is an idiot. Hopefully CP will tell us why they continue to let him shit the bed with every article he writes when they answer my "ask the potato" question.
Fist of God- October 20, 2011 at 3:32 pm
LOL at Danga calling Gadhafi a terrorist, and claiming we killed him.
intercept440- October 20, 2011 at 3:17 pm
diaz may have a skull thicker than a samoan... but he bleeds alot...punching him in the head is just as good as anything else.
a cut could end it all early
myklhoey- October 20, 2011 at 3:12 pm
this cards sick, it wood have been rediculace with the gsp fight, i dont feel robbed with this line up
k-onda- October 20, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Diaz has a fire hydrant on his shoulders - punching him there, I don't care how hard, doesn't equal "close to finishing him," sorry. The only way to beat Diaz is via wrestle-fuck, or equally talented athlete, which BJ is. This is gonna be crazy.
-ps, I just got like the clearest captcha I've ever seen, and it called my response incorrect, this is bullshit!
Fried Taco- October 20, 2011 at 2:41 pm
It's okay, I already won the office pool by drawing the correct time that Diaz would show up late for the conference call. No need to go testing my luck further!
