George St-Pierre Considering Drop to 155: Five Fights for His Lightweight Debut

(Well sure, compared to Guy On The Right, *everybody* looks like a lightweight.)

by Sal DeRose

With the news that Georges St-Pierre could (and is better suited to) drop to 155 pounds and further make the UFC’s lightweight division even more stacked, it gave fans more doubt that a mega fight with Anderson Silva will ever come to fruition.

So if GSP were to drop to lightweight, here are five fights for him to take to get him adjusted to the lightweight waters…

@ Karma, co-sign. God people, fighters are not pussies if they don't fight in a weight class other than their OWN. Fans are so eager to match champions up but at what cost? Superfights can stall 2 divisions and if upsets occur your usually looking at a rematch, besides as time has shown ther is always more contendors waiting in line, Silva has Sonnen and GSP has Condit, Diaz, Penn and Ellenberger all waiting in line.

they should give GSP a shot at Frankie Edgar's title immediately...who really poses a threat to him at LW? Guida, Bendo, and Maynard would all get KTFO'd. If you want to give him a tune up fight, he has more to lose than to gain, but if its against anyone it should be against Gilbert Melendez..

This picture just screams out "homo orgy"

This is clearly the dumbest news ever, I mean, you are a dominate champion, an easy champion who dominates everyone, you are getting paid high, you are on top, an increasing winning streak, and title defense streak, and instead of challenge yourself up, or continue this level of dominance, you go down a weight class? What for? It's like, hey, i'm USA president, now im gonna leave my USA presidency and go and try to conquer Australian presidency, what for? You are dominating a good weight class, not bantamweight or any of that shit, why change and for a lower level of recognition?

It's pink. Sorry, took some pain killers for my hand. Was making sense to me...

Whoa Whoa Whoa.. I'm not even that big on Georges but how the fuck do you get he's avoiding Silva? In my opinion that fight shouldn't even happen same as the Jones/Silva fight. No champion NONE not a single fucking one of them specifically a dominant champion should ever go up in weight to challenge the other champion. I thought it was the dumbest thing under the sun when they pushed the Bj/Gsp fight. I've also always thought Georges was better suited for 155, now there are a lot of fucking things you have to factor in with that weight cut. I mean this guy fucking walks around at 195lbs thats insane... 40lbs for starters I mean he could obviously diet it down to much less of a cut but I just don't know. It sure would be interesting and I'll tell you right now Frankie Edgar vs George St.Pierre would be a banger of a fight in my mind.

I sure can't wait to see gsp lay on even smaller guys.

Lol @ silva fanboys. If silva aint ducking shit why doesnt he just go to welter. Hes fought at welter before in his career. Why is it GSP's responsibility to bulk up? Why dont they just meet at 177.5 since its just a super fight? Or like a lot of people have said, why doesnt Silva fight top notch 205ers (or bettet yet jones) and see what happens. Anderson is a great fighter, but hes also the champ of what is arguably the weakest division the ufc has to offer. I call shenanigans about this 155 shit though. I dont buy it for a second.

There goes GSP tryin' to duck Silva, as expected.

himfelf ocideri

First and foremost, Silva needs to rematch Sonnen. And GSP needs to fight Diaz. And gah'damn people have short attention spans nowaday. Just the this morning I was talking to... I was talking to... Ummmm. Shit. Nevermind.
Duh Ogre- October 25, 2011 at 10:26 am
Everybody is thinking that GSP is avoiding Silva. I have to disagree. There is no logical reason to see GSP fight Silva. Super fights are dumb and always have been. It proves nothing. You take a guy a weight class above or below and they win, that means what? Nothing
Shifty-Eyed Dog- October 25, 2011 at 10:10 am
That's fine. Silva can fight Jones instead. Though since they're both cocky douchebags, I'm not sure who I'd root for. I'd like to see both sustain career-ending injuries.
uzithrasha- October 25, 2011 at 10:08 am
man he really doesnt want to fight Anderson, its be allot easier if just admitted it. His legacy will be lame if he drops to lightweight where its more then likely that he'll dominate even more there then welterweight. He wants to fight guys smaller then him but he aint willing to be the smaller guy in a fight with silva, fucking pussy
SuckMySkyWalker- October 25, 2011 at 10:05 am
This is CLEARLY nonsense horseshit being spewed by his closet gay crush ┬╗Zahabi because George sooo desperately wants to duck Anderson hed screw over his own mom.. This is a lame troll by Zahabi considering Gsp is HUGE WW even today.
Clyde- October 25, 2011 at 9:51 am
Surely the only way GSP can make 155 is if the knee injury we've been told about is that both his legs have been cut off. Someone must be trolling to suggest this. I'll believe it when I see it, but I'm sure he's only got a slightly better chance of getting to lighweight than Steven Segal.
Aryan- October 25, 2011 at 9:27 am
hes avoiding Silva. Just like Silva will be avoiding Bones.

Big guy is wearing a silky v-neck. Come on man!!
JohnnyBlaze- October 25, 2011 at 8:48 am
the guy on the right looks like the dude from league of extraordinary gentlemen who drank Hydes cyrum and grew into that giant monster.
wow 155 really? so i guess all the decisions gsp won can be chalked up to him not finishing cuz hes the smaller guy and had trouble controlling all these bigger dudes? im sure BJ Penn just peed in his bed somewhere
RwilsonR- October 25, 2011 at 8:44 am
That looks like Marvel's new all-gay superhero team.
danomite- October 25, 2011 at 8:37 am
Actually, Guy on the Right is kenflo. he's just bulking up for his transition to the heavyweight division.
danomite- October 25, 2011 at 8:36 am
where are all the 'gsp is a huge welterweight' guys now? I personally didn't think that he was small enough to make 155 but if he can i'd much rather see that than him go to 185 because who really, besides anderson and a giant roided oyt chael sonnen, is there at 185 who could stop him? It's the weakest division as far as wrestling goes and he's the best wrestler coming out of the division with the UFC's best wrestlers. at least 155 can give him some guys who can match his speed and endurance.
