Georges St. Pierre: Settling In

From Georges St. Pierre‘s latest blog entry for

Before going to Brazil, I had a call from one of my friends who told me that Denis Kang won his fight against Marvin Eastman by TKO in the first minute of the fight. It made me a feel good because it brings a good vibe to the team, and like Tseng Tsu says in the Art of War, battles are won by momentum. I’m also very happy because I also learned he’ll soon be fighting in the UFC, so for the first time since we started training together, we’ll be able to fight in the same organization.

I flew to Brazil Sunday night, and after a long flight I got into Rio de Janeiro. But after the flight I was very tired because I cannot sleep on the plane, so I had to take the morning off from training to take a nap of a couple of hours. I started my training Monday night after my nap, and I quickly found out that even though I just earned my black belt in BJJ, there are still a lot of guys better than me in this sport at Gracie Barra Academy. I got tapped so many times during my training there and I learned so many new tools that just for that alone, this trip was worth it. I met a bunch of new training partners and good friends as well in Brazil. My friend Cleo from Montreal went with me and was teaching a wrestling class during the day where were training a lot of takedowns and takedown defense, plus MMA sparring as well. At night I was also doing BJJ with the gi to improve my ground skill and knowledge.

During the week, one of the valets at the hotel was very nice with me it was nice to meet someone who spoke French very well. Every time a pretty woman was passing by him, he was making a comment in French about how beautiful and sexy she was…

I think there’s also a section in The Art of War about casually mentioning that you got “tapped so many times” in training in order to bait your enemy into going to the ground with you. Don’t fall for it, BJ! To read the rest of GSP’s post, click here. Unfortunately, Rush never mentions if the valet’s obscene French catcalls successfully got him laid.

@ derly:

you are correct about rampage and how he deals with losses...but you can't forget his pride fight with ninja rua. the judges gave him the decision, and he disagreed and tried to give his trophy to ninja as he walked out of the ring in disgust. thats a stand up move in my book.

as far as bj vs gsp, i think if they fought ten times they would win five each right now. they are both top five pound for pound, and their fight is so hard to call. but i think bj will take it this time, setting up for what could be the biggest ppv ever - the rubber match. whatever happens, it is guaranteed to be fight of the year candidate.

anybody who says that BJ Penn can beat GSP or that GSP can beat BJ Penn on the assumption of their last fight is a complete idiot. Both fighters evolved way too much since their last fight to even take it into consideration and that's why this fight is so fucking awesome. Everyone wants to see it cuz everyone wants to know which fighter evolved the most. Imo its impossible to predict this fight and it's gonna be the toughest fight of both their career. I cant wait.

@ Derly

I didn't call BJ a jackass ya jackass. Go to the 9th comment posted, if you wanted to see who did. I was responding to that person, and I just copied what he said before I posted a response to "him". Kind of like people do all day long on this thing. If you read my posting (the 11th comment posted) you'll see that I gave BJ props......even though I think GSP's gonna beat him. I respect everyones opinion though.
Kevbo- November 11, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Well you may not be able to talk very well, but at least you can still type this article with BJ's cock in your mouth.

BJ Penn... already beat by GSP and even beat by Matt Hughes in a very entertaining and funny way. Put GSP on the Machinist's diet and so he can make the 155 mark and then you may have a good show.

LOL bro I was about to reem you out man. ^^^^^^ it sounds like you're cheering for BJ at the start of your comment. GSP 2nd round TKO

me and gsp were out drinking last night, and he stumbled out into the street and got hit by a car, hes gonna be allright but he broke his leg, so the fights off. oh yeah and while he was summersaulting through the air he said "i am not impressed with your performance"
you guys are reatarded!!- November 11, 2008 at 3:16 pm
This is meant for all these fucking tools that say oh! GSP won the last fight but he went to the hospital, He was the one with a fucked up face, He cant handle the new BJ. WTF do you idiots think GSP has been doing just sitting on his fucking ass? you dont think he has improved in the yrs since they're last encounter? you guys are fuckin morons go back to reading your harry potter books I WILL GUARANTEE GSP wins this shit! GSP IS THE TRUE P4P BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD!! no question and he will prove it once he gets a hold of The Spider next yr
tully- November 11, 2008 at 2:41 pm
i dont think BJ can beat GSP

standing they are both good at everything

and on the ground GSP just seems stronger and faster than anyone, while BJ has as good jui jitsu as you'll find anywhere with that uncanny flexibility

so i think ultimately the difference is gonna be gsp's size advantage, he'll have too much reach standing up and he'll be too strong on the ground, and hes just had so much more experience at 170

i actually give GSP an edge in experience too he hasnt fought anything but the best in 4 years, if you really break down all the guys hes beaten its incredible, parisyan hieron hughes miller trigg sherk penn koschek fitch, every opponent is a beast and he wins all of his fights decisively. i just dont think BJ can move up and beat him. i give alves a better shot because hes young and real big with knockout power.

….wtf? no speaka crazy? i dont get it dude."

Go back to last Friday's Cagepotato Link Dump and check out the hilarious GSP video.

When you mentioned “…impressed by your performance”, I thought you were reffering to the vid. If you haven't seen it, all will make sense upon viewing.

Here, I made it simple:

GSP is a classy guy. Instead of a huge ego like a lot of fighters, he speaks highly of the people he trains with and ADMITS THAT HE HAS MORE TO LEARN. the guy's a champ and still know that he can always learn form other people. Most guy think they know it all in the sport. That's what make GSP a great fighter, always willing to learn and he's humble about it. you can learn something from him Matt Serra
Truth- November 11, 2008 at 7:55 am
LOL @ all these BJ Penn cocksuckers:

Matt Hughes finished BJ Penn (doesn't matter, injury or not)
GSP finished Matt Hughes (TWICE)
GSP beat BJ Penn (he may have suffered more facial damage but GUESS WHAT HE WON THE FIGHT)
BJ Penn is moving up to fight GSP
Canucklechuck- November 11, 2008 at 5:08 am
@ Babcock - Great post man. Nice to see that GSP eventually gets to even ardent fans of his opponents (although your transition was likely helped by the fact that Hughes has been showing his dickishness with increasing regularity over the last number of years). I hope you're wrong about Obama's "performance" though..

@ Browntown - Spoken like a true BJ Pen "Cockwasher". I just can't see BJ coming in to this fight at 170 limit in the same shape he is when needs to make 155. Only time will tell I guess. We'll see where he's at at the weigh-ins but my prediction is that GSP will again prevail over BJ 1.5.

Brock Lesnar's bad haircut- November 11, 2008 at 3:38 am

I know you were just playing the devil's advocate but you only listed 2 of the 8 fighters that Jay listed. The other 6 are solid, great role models for the sport. And Rampage had been doing great until his breakdown after the Forrest fight. I guess you don't have to watch SpongeBob, but I think a Disney Movie marathon is calling your name.

Derly don't know nothin'- November 11, 2008 at 2:44 am
Well Sir, I believe that GSP went into the ring and did what Hughes had done to him... besides what does it matter, it pumps up the fans for the next fight!!!
Derly- November 11, 2008 at 2:34 am
@Jay Smith
Well BJ can be a jackass until he kicks your ass. Then he does this incredible transformation from Mr. Hyde to Dr. Jekyll.

And wasn't it GSP who went into the ring in a fight that wasn't his, to steal the mic and tell everyone he was not impressed? That's kinda jackass to me.

Rampage can't handle a loss... Like the quote in the pride documentary where he talks about his loss to Sakuraba. He can't just say, "I lost..." he says he wasn't fighting at 100% he was at like 60%. Of course you can mention his whole fiasco after losing to Forrest. I really lost a lot respect for him when I watched that documentary. It just cemented the fact I already knew that he just can't admit to a loss.

Should I go on or should I get back to watching spongebob?
Jay Smith- November 11, 2008 at 1:49 am
@ ryan
"Gsp and fedor are great for the sport, without these 2 mma would be full of jackasses"
Anderson Silva, Forest Griffin, Wandy, BJ Penn, Rampage, Thiago Alves, Randy Couture, Nog,..........should I go on, or should you just go back to watching sponge bob, and stop commenting on the "newest crave" in sports that you're hearing about around the water cooler. Dumb ass.
GSP by decision.
yeah- November 11, 2008 at 1:15 am
the fight will probably be canceled due to someone having a pinky injury. fighters are such wussies.
ryan- November 11, 2008 at 1:00 am
Gsp and fedor are great for the sport, without these 2 mma would be full of jackasses, they are both great and very respectful.
KarateKid- November 11, 2008 at 1:00 am
GSP is going to win this fight within the first two round by knockout...GSP's skills are soo diverse and well rounded. Hes going to pick Penn apart, hes just in a differnt level then him and id say most fighters in the UFC. Dont get me wrong I respect and am a fan of Penn, but I really dont think he has much of a chance.
Browntown- November 11, 2008 at 12:17 am
I hope BJ rips his french canadian head off. Remember, GSP was the one that went to the hospital after their last encounter, his face looked like it was hit by a train. Lets see how he handles BJ 2.0 you GSP cockwashers.
