(Let’s try this again, “Ace”, this time with a little enthusiasm.)
Despite the fact that UFC 93 and 95 are taking place in Dublin and London respectively, they will not air for free on Spike TV, reports MMA Rated. Does that mean you’re going to have to pay more of your rapidly dwindling cash to see an event that goes live in the middle of the afternoon? Either that or wait until the videos hit the internet, and for some reason it’s considered “troubling behavior” for me to drink in front of my computer at ten o’clock on a Sunday morning, even though it’s perfectly acceptable to do it in front of the TV on a Saturday. I blame this Puritanical society.
The explanation for why this is happening centers around Spike TV’s production budget. Broadcasting these overseas events is costly, and since both UFC 93 and 95 take place within the first two months of 2009, that would mean blowing a big portion of their budget in the first quarter. This, my friends, is a side effect of the UFC going global.
So now we’re looking at three pay-per-views in the first sixty days of the new year from the UFC, plus another one on January 24 from Affliction. I don’t know what your disposable income looks like these days, but it sure seems like someone’s got to lose in this scenario. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that you could only afford two of these events without being forced to make extra money by letting your creepy neighbor install that webcam he keeps talking about. What’s it gonna be: Fedor-Arlovski (Affliction), Franklin-Henderson (UFC 93, with a side order of Coleman-Rua), Penn-St. Pierre (UFC 94), or Liddell-Silva (UFC 95, hopefully)? As a bonus question, how important will the undercards of said events be in your decision-making?

I like to support the UFC by giving them money, but each show should be 2+ hours worth $55, not just the last 20 minutes. That being said I bought Couture/Lesnar just to see Randy (even though it seemed quite possible he'd lose) and the undercard there was a total treat. So maybe there's some kind of ratio you can work out. if (Headline fight x undercard) > something = success
I do like watching from the couch as well. I'll probably throw or attend a party for UFC 92 and 94. As for Affliction...not sure just yet? I really don't want to miss Fedor vs. Andrei. I might just have some friend's over. College football will be done by then too so we'll need something else view.
You are dead on, brother. When my wife bitches about the PPV price and urges me to take her out to see the event for "free" at a bar instead of buying it at home (she actually likes the fights too), we usually spend the same if not more at the bar than the PPV price.... and she doesn't even drink!
I will steal all the others.
Although a strong under-card could sway me one way or the other I do not believe that it would create enough pull to get the wallet out my back pocket.
On the flip side there is no way I am going to miss Affliction and 94, even if I do end up 'planting-tulips' on the side.
The Hendo/Franklin fight is at 205 not at 185 this should be a great fight.
Dont discount it. I have waited for what seems like forever to see these guys go at it.
Also Mark vs Shogun I have waited for since the whole Chute Box/HammerHouse thing back in Pride. Dont get me wrong I think Shogun is going to beat Mark's ass.

Who wrote this?? UFC is not in the UK, its in Dublin. Dublin is in Ireland!!! This would be like saying UFC 92 is on in Mexico. Can someone correct this please??
but isn't the United Kingdom the whole thing (Ireland, Scotland, england and Wales)?????
ps I believe it is.
This is making my cheap-ass irish head spin!
It's the Sophie's Choice of MMA!
When push comes to shove, I gotta go with Fedor-Arlovski (Affliction) and Penn-St. Pierre (UFC 94). The rest of the Affliction card is pretty solid and Fedor v Arlovski is gonna be one for the books. Penn v st. Pierre? Come on! that's history in the making. NO WAY I'd miss that fight.
Nothing against the other match-ups. I'm totally diggin' what Henderson has been doing lately and Liddel vs Silva is pretty historic, but I'm stickin' with my picks.
By the way, undercard-shmundercard, these fights are all about the main event.
92 - must have for all mma fans.
93 - must have for mma fans who followed UFC & PRIDE. (which isnt most)
Affliction - must have for mma fans (am i the only one really excited for sobral lindland?)
94 - must have for all mma fans.
95 - must have for all mma fans (if infact Silva vs. Liddell)
That being said... expect to see me go broke and buy them all...
