Gina Carano to Star in Second Film; MMA Return Unlikely

(Yeah MMA made her a household name, but Hollywood magic made her a size 4.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, female fighter and thespian Gina Carano has signed on for her second leading film role for the upcoming John Stockwell-directed thriller, “In the Blood,” which will likely mean that a return to MMA is not in the cards for the 29-year-old Strikeforce and EliteXC veteran.

“In The Blood” will begin production in Puerto Rico in the spring. The film is scripted by Dumb and Dumber’s Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston. Actor-turned-director Stockwell is best known for his work on Cheaters, Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, Into the Blue, Turistas, and Heart.

The film centers on Carano and her yet-to-be-cast husband, who is kidnapped while the pair vacation in the Caribbean. Carano’s character, who will be similar to Liam Neeson’s in “Taken” and Harrison Ford’s in “The Fugitive”, becomes a primary suspect in the disappearance and decides to take matters in her own hands to find her husband and clear her name.

In an interview he did about the film in November, Stockwell called it “an opportunity to take on a taut, tense paranoid thriller that delivers on a supremely engaging premise: what if the person you love vanished in a foreign land and you were the prime suspect in their disappearance?”

Carano, who hasn’t fought since losing to Cris “Cyborg” Santos in August 2009 at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg, waffled about whether or not she would be returning to the cage in interviews ahead of the premiere of her first film, “Haywire,” which opened last month to mixed reviews. Now it seems like her mind is made up and that the lure of the big screen and bigger paydays coupled with the bonus of not being punched in the face and having to cut weight tipped the scales in Hollywood’s favor.

Goodbye, Miss Carano. We hardly knew you.

make the animated colors a glaze though, make those colors transluscent layers over the real film integrity, or like transparencies layered over the real original film images

they should make a film for this chick with a crossing of Fifth element & Titan AE where she is killed early in the film & has to battle the spiritual forms of her attackers in the undead world till she comes back to life before they bury her body in the grave. the set would be sci-fi ships & inter stellar, & the genre would be that cinematography wise it would be pure film generated visuals but with the highlights & lowlights of the colors being animation style colors, like if there is a street lamp, the light given off will be animated, mid tones would be realism, upper & lower ranges animation

Unless you've survived a 12 week training camp, battled the scale for a weigh-in and stepped into the ring with someone intent on playing Whack-a-mole with your nose you might want to curb the Disrespect for a serious fighter.

Remember - Santos Cyborg was busted (as we suspected all along) for using steroids. That means that Gina didn't really lose her fight to Cyborg.

Who can blame Gina for being a bit soured on her experience in MMA - she trained her butt off and stepped into the cage over and over only to have her ultimate shot taken away by someone who cheated the system. Gina has NOTHING left to prove to anyone.

Who can question her choice to make more money with one movie than she made from all her fights combined... without facing the risk of disfigurement, permanent injury and the possibility of brain damage.

Oh, and for intercept440... if Carmen was your sister you would be speaking with a bit more respect... and looking to crack heads on some glib cage fighter want-to-be making the sexually inapropriate post.

Speaking with such disrespect towards women is one indication of a man who acts with disrespect towards women. Check yourself.

I really think this is an intelligent choice for Gina. She had trouble making the 145lb weight limit and that class is all but extinct now. I seriously doubt she would want to cut to 135 to join the rest of the competition.

Apparently sodomizing ewen mcgreggor is better than being sodomized by cyborg.

@Rex13 LOL! Thespianism isn't so bad, but hopefully this movie is better than Haywire, hopefully she at least does some full frontal this time.

Oh yeah HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY Potato Nation:)

Don't you guys think it's a little messed up to keep messing with her weight? She would still kick the shit out of 99.9% of the guys who post on this site.

Damm you Rex, first thing I thought of was a thespian gag " Anyone got photo's?"

Actor-turned-director Nacho Vidal is best known for his work on Skeeters, Crazy/Bootyfull, Boob Crush, Into the Boob, Horny Turistas, and Shart.

I'm thinking she may still have to cut weight. I still love her though.
Mofo- February 14, 2012 at 7:49 am
Booty. Star. Wow man, bizarre and fascinating and confusing in equal parts, as usual. Wait wait, lemme grab my zig zags...
Mofo- February 14, 2012 at 7:48 am
No, no, Mike, I don't know who your sources are, but this is incorrect. The title is actually "In The Butt". And it's directed by Nacho Vidal.

any male associated with her films is gonna have a rough time in the biz, it's just that part of the season, women rule these days till they finally get off then all snatch is gonna get breaked by hooves
Fried Taco- February 14, 2012 at 7:30 am
Woo-hoo! Auditions are still happening for the husband! I'm a shoe-in, but only if there is a sex scene.
ReX13- February 14, 2012 at 7:29 am
Not that there's anything wrong with it. My wife flirted with thespianism in high school. Apparently it's normal for teens to explore roles outside of their own experiences; many try it just for the thrill.
ReX13- February 14, 2012 at 7:25 am
Jesus Christ , Mike, you better throw *alleged* thespian in there -- we don't want to start rumors.
