Good News of the Day: Dan Miller schedules Surgery for Son

The toughest fighter you’ll see all day. Pic via Daniel James Miller Foundation.

As you know, we’ve been following an unfortunate story regarding UFC middleweight Dan Miller‘s son, Danny Jr., who is suffering from polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and needs a kidney transplant. The transplant itself is going to cost $100,000, not to mention the additional $10,000 per month in medication for at least one year that is only partially covered by his insurance. We’ve been asking for your help with donations, and you have been generous to the cause so far.

The struggle is by no means over, but we’re pleased to learn that Daniel James Miller has a kidney transplant scheduled for late-January, according to The surgery was made possible by significant donations from UFC co-owners Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White.

While this is certainly a welcomed update, let’s make sure to remember two important things:

1.) As fans, we’re quick to point out when Dana White makes a questionable decision. Let’s make sure we also applaud him for standing up for one of his fighters.

2.) Dan Miller still has $10,000 per month to pay for medication for the next year after his surgery. Your generosity is still needed.

Happy for Dan hope everything remains well for them.

I must say that the noteriety that Xeno has achieved is something to be recongnized.
I see him as more of a supervillian then the Spawn of Hitler and Irma Grese. It would take quite an abomination of a man to truly belive the words that are coming out of posts.
His schtick has always been to "grind peoples gears" and it is your job to take it with a grain of salt... or maybe ban together and stone him for thought crime.

Wow Xeno,

Wait till you have kids, I hope someone gives you the same reaction you just gave.

Wait, I forgot you cant have kids. No wonder you're such a tool with giant sown up vagina

Ta-da! You'll feel smarter and happier by ignoring the stupidity!

Shirts are at the printers and I should be getting them later this week. We sold close to 500, so it's a big job printing and shipping them all out.

Good for him, good for the UFC, hope this little guy makes it
MyDonkeyPunch- December 12, 2011 at 6:31 am
And it is awesome to know that their little man is going to get the treatment that he needs.
MyDonkeyPunch- December 12, 2011 at 6:30 am
@ RwilsonR - After finally finding out what the whole "occupy" stance was, I agree with them. They should point out their objectives more clearly though. And regardless of what SuckMySkyWalker says, I find your comments pretty clever. Although, I do think Evans has a chance against Jones.

@XENOPHON - Do you ever shut up? With your daily heroin shots, I really think you should mix in some bleach.

This made me smile knowing the babies surgery had been scheduled.
Duh Ogre- December 12, 2011 at 3:27 am
@BryanF. The 100k is needed for the donor of the kidney. Stipulations in her insurance will not pay for her due to something like a "living donor". The babies insurance should cover most of his expenses.

It's amazing how everyone "expects" Dana to do his part. Roger Goodell, quite the contrary. Xeno, the little guy is sick... it's not his fault. Blame it on the parents? Come on bro.
fatbellyfrank- December 12, 2011 at 2:23 am
Go well Danny Jr, and prayers and best wishes to Dan and Kristin

So I'd really like to try to get this straight. So in America, if you have an illness and get sick like this or something and can't come up with the money for medication or treatment, they leave you to die? Like the medicine exists, but they'll pretty much say to Dan and Kristin Miller "Nope...sorry, gotta take your kid home and let him die".

So is the insurance just as expensive as the treatment? Is insurance really difficult to get?

may sound heartless because i am a huge fan of miller and his family buuuut i ordered a few of those shirts for the charity thing and never received them...:(
IronClad- December 11, 2011 at 8:28 pm
Fuuuuuck Xeno...please choke your self. And i dont mean finger blast your stinky ham wallet.
JustBlogGuy- December 11, 2011 at 8:22 pm
Yeah, Mike, I gathered as much just from reading his post. Still, it's a dumb statement I've seen a bunch of places, with people trying to score cool kid edgy points by noting out how Kristin and Dan are the real villains for having kids knowing full well they'd likely be sick and as much as I try not to feed the trolls online, that's just the right kind of BS where I can't help myself.
For anyone not an idiot that is wondering, no, Kristin and Dan did not know what PKD was before they learned their son had it. Yes, they lost their first child at birth. No, she did not pass as a result of PKD. No, they did not have ANY family history of PKD prior to Danny to indicate it was a risk. Yes, PKD can appear as a random mutation unrelated to if the parents are carriers. They're two incredible people, who have had to go through unbelievably horrible circumstances and yet still manage to be positive in the face of it all, and anybody who wants to imply they deserve this for choosing to have kids is a scumbag of the highest order.
Also, thanks for the multiple stories, guys, and obviously the shirts. Much appreciated.

I have read this site for years and have never felt the urge to sign-up and comment... Until I read what Xenephon had to say, you sir, to put it mildly, are a dumbfuck. others have already pointed out most of the flaws, but as an accountant I would like to point out the stupidity of your "free money" statement. They are not "tax wright-downs" (the fuck is a wright-down anyway?). they are tax WRITE-OFFS, and they are not free money, you claim money that you have donated as write-offs, which the write-offs are then taken out of you INCOME, then you are taxed on your new "income", lets say they donated $50,000 each, for the fertittas or white that most likely would amount to, AT THE MOST a few thousand dollars less in taxes they owe. So Xenophon, please explain how this is FREE MONEY, asswipe
Mike Russell- December 11, 2011 at 8:03 pm
Don't mind XENOPHON. He thinks he knows everything about everything, but he's really just a fool.
JustBlogGuy- December 11, 2011 at 6:56 pm
"And in Millers case, he and his old-lady knew the risks, they have birthed other kids with similar birth defects."

Nope, on both counts.
SuckMySkyWalker- December 11, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Shut the fuck up are not witty, clever or funny. Ever. Go fuck your mother. Im gonna go occupy your grandmothers womb.
RwilsonR- December 11, 2011 at 6:06 pm
@ Pen & XENO - yeah, stick it to tha man, brothas! If only we could erase profit incentive we would have all the R&D investment we'd need to produce the best pharmaceuticals and medical procedures money can bu... er, umm... that happy thoughts and good intentions can buy. Now let's go occupy something!!!
RwilsonR- December 11, 2011 at 5:57 pm
Today is full of good news. First this, which is fantastic for the Millers. Then we also hear that Brittney Palmer will be on the cover of Playboy in March. Great news all around!
Giblets- December 11, 2011 at 5:47 pm
Thats awesome news for little Miller. I know we rag on Dana White a bit but for him not to step up and help the Millers out would be totally out of character for him.
XENOPHON- December 11, 2011 at 5:31 pm
No a chance Pen, the same will be counting the cash all the way to the bank.

As for the UFC donations, they are just that - tax wright downs - or put another way, free money.
One hopes Miller wises up, and files for BK, just like all the no longer existent businesses do when nobody wants to pay the bills from the money they pocketed.
And in Millers case, he and his old-lady knew the risks, they have birthed other kids with similar birth defects.
If one said please CP, post these sympathy articles more often..they never would. I've taken note that when people balk at their topic driven articles, they pony up even more of the same.
Reverse psychology - a lesson from minions.

Good to know that our system of pharmaceutical patents is working out well, nearly bankrupting the family of a child born with a congenital illness. I hope some asshole at Merck or Pfizer reads this and feels ashamed of themselves.
