Great, Mirko Cro Cop’s Getting Another Fight in the UFC

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic’s nine-fight UFC career has been one of can-crushing highs and head-rattling lows. After suffering consecutive knockout loses against Frank Mir and Brendan Schaub, Dana White claimed that we’d seen the last of Cro Cop in the UFC. But DW had a change of heart yesterday, telling reporters that he owes Filipovic another fight, and the 36-year-old Croatian veteran will be returning to the Octagon. As he explained:

Do I think he should have retired? Yeah. But I don’t think he’s in one of these situations where — I felt Chuck Liddell needed to retire right then. Listen, he’s a man, he’s a grown man. If he wants to continue to fight, that’s his right. And he still has a fight with me.”

Of course, Dana could easily cut Mirko’s contract if he wanted to; having fights left on your contract is no guarantee of job security in the UFC. White must feel that there’s at least one more marketable fight out there for Cro Cop. Do you use him to put over another young contender? Do you book him against another PRIDE-era old timer — say, Nogueira if he loses to Schaub? Do you give him a co-headlining spot on a Versus broadcast against the caliber of opponent that he’s beaten in the past? Is there anybody left who even cares?

A return date or opponent for Filipovic has not yet been announced.

Definitely agree with you there. He made up for it was younger with his overall speed but now he just kinda stalks.

the problem i see with Cro Cop (judging from his recent fights only) is his footwork. He has none. He just sort of walks towards his opponent and gets tagged a lot in the process. I've never seen him circle or have any head movement.

One more fight for Couture??????

Rematch with Fedor, so Fedor can win again

i suppose the ko money for a fading star must be pretty good tho... so respekt! mirko! you the (falling) man, innit!

i don't care about mirko as a fightrer - he ceased to to relevenat a long time ago - i'm just delighted that i will very likely make a load of money from his next loss, because pride will likely prevent him fighting someone he could beat... fuckin slow old hoor that he is, no disrespect intended

I would pay CroCops fight fee.. and the KO bonus if i got to see CroCop Vs Fedor(RWARR!!)/Rampage/Axe Murderer/Lesnar. Left leg hospital.. right leg cemetary. :)

Seriously though, Mirko was a legend in Pride. I hate to see him ending up as another 'one more fight.. i'll get it this time' :(

If the UFC keep CroCop fighting they may as well let Ortiz fight.. oh wait..

I hope Chuck's not coming back too! :p

I can't believe people think he would be any better at 205. A division with better wrestlers and strikers? Sure, that'l work well.
Also, no way Tito loses. Tito wrestles him down for two rounds, decent ground and pound, then tiredly lays on him the third round. A head kick is never thrown.
RearNakedSpoon- May 26, 2011 at 2:59 pm
As a Mirko fan I think he lost too much speed to be competitive and dropping to 205 where guys are much faster would be foolish.

Im a huge Mirko fan, but I think he should get w/ Dolce or just not eat the day before weigh ins and go to 205.

There would be a lot of good fights for him at that weight class.

cro cop should only be allowed to fight at light heavy. hes a heavy weight that walks around at like 220. thats just plain lazy.i love the idea of tito though. i love seeing him and his watermelon sized dome lose fights.

Can they bring back Mustapha Al-Turk?
I really don't see him beating anyone that people have heard of. Shit, bring in Don Frye, I remember him talking about fighting again. Or how cool would it be for Dan Severn to get win number 100 in the UFC?
FrontKick Dentist- May 26, 2011 at 2:17 pm
If Mirko kicked Tito in the head his leg would shatter.
Smitty- May 26, 2011 at 2:04 pm
You noticed Dana never said anything about giving him another contract if he wins his next fight. I think he'll be done after this one, and then move on to smaller promotions to futher his embarassment. I for one hope he wins his next fight, and goes out on a good note.

Mike Rusow is the right answer.

No really cares about him if he loses.
Mongoose- May 26, 2011 at 2:02 pm
Mark Hunt is still in the UFC right?
RwilsonR- May 26, 2011 at 1:56 pm
I'm not sure I would describe Mirko's can-crushing in the UFC as really having any highs.
intercept440- May 26, 2011 at 1:51 pm
he should move down to light heavy and head kick tito
Stak40- May 26, 2011 at 1:18 pm
He should fight Kongo.

I really enjoy everything about Mirko. I hope he does well. Tired of watching him get beat-up in the ring.

I was actually thinking that Cro-cop and Big Nog might be a decent fight. Nog has slowed down a lot compared to the young guys.

Lesnar, sorry.. I'm done posting now, I promise.

Plus I would love to see Leasnar get kicked in the head.
