While discussing the Quebec Athletic Commission’s new opposition to mixed martial arts (and potential blocking of UFC 97) on a Montreal sports-radio show, Dana White announced that the first building block seems to be in place for the UFC’s historic 100th pay-per-view event, which will go down this July in Las Vegas:
Though Thiago Alves wasn’t mentioned by name, it seems likely that the welterweight division’s #1 contender will not compete until he meets St. Pierre for the 170-pound strap. Adds FiveOuncesofPain:
Speaking of Quebec, Dana White will be meeting this week with the Régie des Alcools, des Courses et des Jeux — which governs alcohol, racing, gambling and combat sports in Quebec — to discuss what rules the UFC would have to follow to hold their scheduled April 19th event at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Let’s hope Dana’s patented F-bomb-laced bullying convinces the board to have a complete change of heart, or else it’s no UFC for you, Montreal.

Everyone at Jackson's camp should start using the, "I am not impressed with your performace," line from now on. I'd start getting way more hyped for their fights if they did. Maybe the key to winning isn't the nipple tweak, but just putting on the same show that GSP uses to dominate, no matter what aspect of his game it is. Or maybe it really is the nipple tweak. I'll admit I've used it in a couple street fights now and both times I was able to drive home and go party, while the other guy drove to the hospital await stitches, and not wanting the public to see his face.

In a recent interview Dana White sounded more receptive than usual about Fedor coming and fighting in the UFC. He even stated that if/when Fedor signs, he'll fight for the title right away. I'd find you a link to the radio interview where he says it but that's not my job, it's Ben's. Fedor vs. Mir/Lesnar is a very real possibility for UFC 100.

Its evident by watching that video that alves was nervous as hell. he is a great kid, but its obvious he got titleshot twisted, and backwards, that's clearly nerves. I respect the kid enough that I think its classless to make fun of the guy when he does NOT deserve to be made fun of, he hasn't pulled any stupid shit, or talk any stupid shit, he is just a really good fighter. That said , all GSP has to do is weather being punched out, get this kid to the ground, and he will submit him easily. If he stands and bangs without moving extremely fast Alves is certainly the heavier handed better, and way more aggressive striker. If GSP even remotely trys to fight Alves like he did BJ early on it wont be as much fun for him. On the ground will put him in a much superior position.
