GSP ‘Very Impressed’ By Alves’s Performance

(OMG, we have so much in common! Props to HardfortheYard.)

From Georges St. Pierre‘s latest blog entry for our good buddies at

I’m on my way to Brazil, but I stopped off in Chicago to see my training partner Patrick Cote fight for the world middleweight title against Anderson Silva. While I believe he was the first fighter to make it into the 3rd round against Anderson, it’s sad to see him lose the way that he did, because of a knee injury. Patrick has a loose ACL even before, and he had been able to fight 3 fights with it, but unfortunately this one was too much for his knee. I think he was doing pretty well against Anderson, and it was a smart strategy for him to bring the fight into the later rounds. I was very impressed by the performance of Thiago Alves — he showed everybody why he belongs in the top fighters in the welterweight division. Of course, it’s up to the UFC, but I think he will be one of my next opponents pretty soon.

So start getting psyched for St. Pierre/Alves. Pitbull definitely earned his shot with his three-round domination of Josh Koscheck on Saturday night, and he could easily turn out to be St. Pierre’s most challenging title defense yet. To read GSP’s thoughts on his new BJJ black belt (congrats!), his new condo in Ile-des-soeurs, and his recent photo shoot for the cover of Men’s Fitness, read the rest of his blog post here.

GSP has a future schedule from hell if the UFC does Penn, Alves and Silva. I would put near even odds on all three fights...... maybe a silva as a slight favorite.

GSP is a beast.

Alves vs Gsp would be a great fight as I think Avles has the tools needed to beat GSP.
However I dont think that GSP is going to get past Penn....
I keep looking back to the first fight... I know they are both diffrent fighters now, but both have improved and BJ wants this fight real bad so I dont see him blowing it the 2nd time around. If GSP can get past BJ then yes this should be the next fight for him.
If not then Alves should get a shot at BJ first.

You just know that, sometime in the near future, Matt Hughes will post a blog entry of his own about the fight. And you can pretty much guarantee that it will go something like this...

Matt Hughes blog....

I was not impressed by either performance. Alves still needs a lot of work. BLah, Blah, blah.......I would own everyone in the division if this were still 5 years ago and I could use my one dimensional style to wrestle everyone into a win and no one else evolved as the sport did

Has Dana officially announced that Alves gets his shot next? I know when it was Alves vs Diego he said the winner would get the shot. But his tune changed when Koscheck came in.

Im actually more pumped for an Alves/GSP fight than one with BJ.
