HEADS UP: Round 2 of the Lyoto Machida “Karate for MMA” Pick-Off Contest Starts Thursday

("I’M THE KING OF THE MIDDLE OF THE UFC WELTERWEIGHT LADDER!!! WHOO-HOOOOOO!!!"Photo courtesy of UFC.com.)

So how did everybody do with their UFC 99 picks? Did anyone beat our own Ben Fowlkes’s score of 23 points? BF’s picks were straight nasty, with five of the main card fights predicted perfectly. Lucky for you he’s ineligible for the DVDs. BG took in a far less impressive 15 points, and fully admits that picking Saunders over Swick was based on emotion, which is poison in the world of the pick-off. People, you must have ice-water in your balls if you hope to win this contest.

If you did well in round 1, let us know your score in the comments section below so we can keep an eye on the front-runners. Of course, even if you struck out with your UFC 99 predictions, there’s still a chance you can win the first "Machida-Do Karate for Mixed Martial Arts" set that we’re giving away — all you have to do is run the tables this Saturday with your TUF 9 finale picks. Speaking of which…

Since the second welterweight finalist in the TUF 9 finale won’t be revealed until Wednesday night, you’ll have to wait until Thursday morning to submit your official picks for the event; don’t worry, we’ll put up another post directing you to a new forum thread, and everything will be clearly marked. In the meantime, start crafting your picks for the rest of the lineup, which looks like this so far:

MAIN CARD
Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida (LW)
DaMarques Johnson vs. TBA (TUF 9 welterweight finals)
Ross Pearson vs. Andre Winner (TUF 9 lightweight finals)
Joe Stevenson vs. Nate Diaz (LW)
Chris Lytle vs. Kevin Burns (WW)

PRELIMINARY CARD
Melvin Guillard vs. Gleison Tibau (LW)
Mike Ciesnolevicz vs. Tomasz Drwal (LHW)
Brad Blackburn vs. Edgar Garcia (WW)
Cameron Dollar vs. Jason Dent (LW, reported but not official)
TJ Grant vs. Rory Markham (WW, reported but not official)

Come back Thursday for further instructions, and thanks for playing!

Ok I was rereading the original post and noticed it said that 'all edited posts are disqualified' and I had to edit mine as the 'tiebreaker' was not in the original set of instructions. Had I not been DQ'd I would have scored 22 pts.

I only got 16 (should be 19 with the Davis decision...and no, I will not let that go) but I'll get 28 on this next one...

Can't wait for this one. Gonna be way better than UFC 99. I don't like the guy, but i'm interested to see Guillard back in the cage. Also i think if Ciesnolevicz wins this next one, your gonna see his name up in all the websites in months to come so i'm looking forward to that one. And def lookin forward to Joe Daddy versus Irate Nate. Hmm... Sounds like there's a good nick name in there, maybe.

ok i got 20 points. damn that fen folwks!! oh well. i do have a question though. i may have possibly gotten a higher score than 20 and let me explain why. if i were to pick hardy by split decision, (which i did not) do i get 2 points or 3. there was no method to the finish. do i get there because i picky hardy, the decision, and it took place in the 3rd round? i dont know, that why cagepotato is the best. im sure u will elaborate. but one more example couldnt hurt, i pick hardy by submission in the thrid round. well he won, and he won in the third round by decision, so do i get 2 points or just one?

19, though I would've gotten more if uno & davis weren't shafted by the judges.

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 02:07

12...yuck. And I picked all of the correct winners except for al Turk and Davis.

For you people wondering about split/unanimous decisions: In this case, they're only asking for your prediction of: decision, tko/ko, or submission. You don't need to specify the submission or worry about deciding whether or not Davis would get fucked over by the judges, you just have to choose one of the three outcomes.

but if you pick say, hardy by dec, you get three points or two? i kinda assumed three
  12. Chri534. Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 03:14

One point for picking the correct winner, and if that is the case you get a subsequent additional point for the round that it ends and/or the way the fight was decided (i.e., if you picked "Dan Hardy def. Marcus Davis via Dec. R3", you get one point for picking the correct winner, a 2nd point for choosing a decision, and a 3rd point for picking the round).
  13. ben Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 03:15

@ SlapjawAckrite:Yes, you get three points for correctly predicting a decision. If you said "Hardy, submission, R3" you'd get one point.

So....I think I had 21. Which puts me in contention! woot! BTW, if anyone is kind enough to double check my math, my picks are on page 5 of the original thread. I almost picked a couple more decisions...would have had 25+ So, if Al-turks/cro crop fight gets ruled a NC, how does that alter our points? will i lose my correct Crocop rd1 tko points? inquiring minds want to know
  17. Magical Piss Dragon Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 04:08

@reddog your math is correct 19 points here, 9 fights picked correctly, and screwed out of a few points (thanks judges)
  18. BigMoose Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 04:09

20 points for me, it still pains me that i picked against wandy...oh well i do like them DVDs
  19. angry little feet Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 05:04

Umm I think I got 24. I am second guessing my adding now though. For instance... I said Franklin by Decision. I did not say Franklin by decision Rd 3. I guess I thought it was implied. How the hell else would there be a decision except after the third round? So does that get me 3 points or just 2?
  20. Ryan Meleedy Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 06:27

BEN, I SAID I GOT 20, SINCE YOU CLEARED THAT UP, I KNOW I GOT MORE THAN THAT, IM GOING TO GO COUNT THEM NOW. BUT WHEN I PUT PAUL KELLY VIA DECISION, I ONLY GAVE MYSELF 2 POINTS. AND NOW THAT I KNOW I WAS SUPPOSE TO GIVE MYSELF 3 POINTS, I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT MY SCORE IS IN ABOUT 1 MINUTE.
  21. Ryan Meleedy Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 06:37

OK SO BEN, I JUST WENT BACK AND CHECKED, AND THEN DOUBLE CHECKED MY SCORE, I GOT 24 POINTS. ( IM A BADASS MUTHA EFFER) SO YEA I GUESS I BEAT THE OTHER BEN. PLEASE GO TAKE A LOOK CAUSE I DONT WANT ANYONE TO THINK I A BSING THEM AT ALL. IM VERY PROUND OF MYSELF ON THIS ONE AND FEEL PRETTY CONFIDENT GOING INTO THIS WEEKEND. LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS SECTION IF YOU HAVE REVIEWED MY ENTRY, I DONT WANT TO BE LEFT IN THE DARK.
  22. Ryan Meleedy Says:

    Mon, 06/15/09 - 06:40

@ ANGRY LITTLE FEET. I FEEL WHAT YOUR SAYING DUDE, IF I SAID FRANKLIN VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION, I GET THREE POINTS I BELIEVE. IM SURE U DONT NEED TO SPECIFY THAT A UNANIMOUS DECISION WILL BE IN THE THIRD ROUND, I CANT REMEMBER A GUY WINNING A UD IN THE SECOND ROUND.
