MMA Video Tribute: 9 ‘Falling Tree’ Knockouts

Heads-Up: Win a $200 MMA Warehouse Gear Package in This Week’s FightPicker Prize Pools

To quickly sum up last week’s MMA FightPicker action: Manny Pacquiao won by decision but wasn’t able to put Joshua Clottey on the canvas, King of the Cage: Uprising II late replacement Gavin Neil choked out Charlie Zak to become the new KOTC Canadian lightweight champ, some stuff went down at Sportfight 27, and Aaron Rampey is still your father. Ladies and gentlemen, FightPicker’s current top 5:

Our sincere thanks to those hardcore FightPickers who kept playing even when the week’s only action was regional cards and boxing. Now it’s time for the rest of you to get back in the game. There are five (or possibly six) major MMA events going down in the next five weeks, beginning with UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones this Sunday on Versus. And to sweeten the pot this week, MMAWarehouse.com has hooked us up with gear packages featuring Hayabusa fight gloves, TapouT mouthguards, Sprawl Fusion-S fight shorts, and Manto rash guards. Total street value of each package: About $200.

To win one of these kickass kits, head over to MMA FightPicker and choose one of the prize pools at the top. For just 250 chips, you can enter the "Unlimited" pool — but your odds of winning decrease with every entry. If you’re a high-roller, you’ll want to join the "10" pool, which will be capped at every 10 players. The buy-in is a stiff 1,200 PotatoChips, but remember, you can always buy some chips if you need to. Sound good? Thanks to MMA Warehouse for hooking this up, and if you have any questions, please let your voice be heard in the comments section. Questions for this week are after the jump…

Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones: Who will win?
– Will Vera vs. Jones end in a KO/TKO?
Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga: Who will win?
– Will Dos Santos vs. Gonzaga make it to round 3?
Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello: Who will win?
– In the first round of Kongo vs. Buentello…how many knockdowns?
Alessio Sakara vs. James Irvin: Who will win?
Clay Guida vs. Shannon Gugerty: Who will win?
Eliot Marshall vs. Vladimir Matyushenko: Who will win?
John Howard vs. Daniel Roberts: Who will win?
Brendan Schaub vs. Chase Gormley: Who will win?
– More KOs/TKOs or decisions on the full card?

Any news on what happened with KOTC Uppercut?? It's like the event happened in the Bermuda Triangle--i can't find any news that the event even went down. What gives? And props to Rampey--we were in multiple pools together, and he handled all comers.

Wait... all I have to do is pick a few winners and I can dress like Scott Blevins for free?

Wow. Prizes like this make me wish I cared about/didn't suck at Fight Picker. I'm gonna go watch my Veronica Mars season 2 box set while listening to Blue October to see if it syncs up the way it does with Drowning Pool. BTW, whatever happened to Kenny Rogers?

So, that's sort of cool but . . . I'm a fight *fan* not an actual fighter. WTF am I going to do with this stuff? Pretend I'm a fighter? Play dress up? I'm just keepin' it real, fellas. I'm not delusional enough to think that just because I like MMA that I have any business fighting. (Am I the only one?)

JoseMonkey>> Don't think i won't put on this entire outfit and run errands, including stopping at the bank, where i will refuse to take out my mouthpiece while i converse with the tellers. Despite the fact that i have hands so dimunitive that i refuse to go to Burger King, i will not remove my gloves. I will grasp the pen-on-a-chain with an overhand stabby grip and scrawl an approximation of my name, and mumble about "fucking staph" while they count out stacks of ones, per my request. When i am bid a good day, i will grunt the words "protein", "gym", "train", "appreciate your help and have a lovely afternoon", or some combination of preceding, and i will stalk out. I hope the rash guard won't cover the awesome tribal armband i have planned. If you want to quit being a pencilneck, feel free to come by my gym, Keyboard Warrior, and ask for a free month's membership (promotional code: Tap, Nap, or Snap).

Ah, the return of the Aaron Rampey tag. ;) Also, I didn't win ANY chips in my pool because three people tied for first, making my second place finish 4th. Balls! Also, Vera is sitting at 23% or so in the fightpicker, which is slightly higher than I thought he would be. Hmmmmmm......

steampunk22>> i feel your pain on the 2nd place finish yeilding no chips. I'm wondering how they figure out who gets what, because i got chips for winning one pool, and chips for placing third in three, but no chips for two second places. I guess i need to take better notes when i get the acknowledgement/congratulations screen.

@ReX13 It usually only tells you the first few that you won and just gives up after that. As long as the chips add up I wouldn't be too worried.

And furthermore, what if there is a tie for prize pools? Hmm? WHAT THEN!?!?!?! lol I'm actually curious because its totally possible that multiple people tie for first, is it multiple packs then? Does one person get the gloves and the other the shorts?

Me>> Yeah, i should have taken note of my before/after totals. Oh well. BTW, congrats on that epic haul this week. One of my second places was to your first.

Hey Ben, where is the tie breaker question for this week's prize picker pools.
  15. mt59801 Says:

I'm still recovering from my horrible UFC 110 picks, I can't decide. Even if you're not going to use the gear I'm guessing it could be traded for some local event tickets and drinks.

Sorry about the missing tie-breaker question...will deal with it soon and post an announcement when it's up.

Thanks ReX, The WEC hurt me like I knew it would, and I get sour feelings about this next Versus card. Something about fights I care about...

Oh, and someone beat me on three of my pools, xveq, and he got perfectas with all picks selected. That was epic. Deserves his props.
