Henderson vs. Bocek, MacDonald vs. Wilks and Brookins vs. Makdessi Being Targeted for UFC 129 in Toronto

("The UFC really needs to get a handle on Chuck’s spending. Melting the snow from the shoreline and buying a UFC signal seems a bit exorbitant for one show.")

The card for the UFC’s first Ontario show is coming together nicely.

According to various sources, a pair of lightweight and one welterweight bout have been penciled in for the April 30 show at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

MMAJunkie reports that former WEC 155-pound champ Ben Henderson and Canadian grappling standout Mark Bocek will square off on the main card ahead of the co-main event showdowns between former UFC light heavyweight champions Randy Couture and Lyoto Machida and UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields. is claiming that TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins will compete on the card as well opposite undefeated Quebec fighter John "The Bull" Makdessi and that promising Canadian welterweight Rory MacDonald will also take on TUF 9 champ James Wilks.

The Toronto Sun revealed earlier today that the main event for the show was originally going to be a heavyweight title fight between recently-crowned champ Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, but the bout was subbed for St-Pierre vs. Shields when Velasquez was forced to pull out of the bout due to a torn rotator cuff.

I relish the opportunity to see GSP fight any and all comers in the WW div. Getting to see him dismember an opponent I consider a over-hyped, absolutely horrible Fighter like Jakey Shields is like strawberry jam to top it all off. Nighty night Jake.

I know I am supposed to want only really competitive title fights (and in most cases, I do), but I do love watching GSP just destroy all contenders at WW. I'm sure I'll get sick of it after he smashes Shields and the only people to fight are guys that he has already embarrassed. But I am excited to watch him destroy Shields. I just hope he finishes him. It is pretty cool that he will really be the first person in MMA to have fought pretty much every single relevant contender at his weight class and beat them all.

Got nothing against Henderson, but I want Bocek on this one. If he gets it to the ground we'll find out EXACTLY how far Henderson's arm can bend before it snaps.

I know the UFC usually covers fighters medical expenses for injuries sustained durring sanctioned fights; but will they cover the costs to have Randy's body shipped back to the states?

Consulate/freight fees and such.

If I am going to pay through the teeth to sit in the nose bleeds and be part of the 'record setting' profits UFC will undoubtedly make, then I had better hope the UFC mans-up with some pretty big fights! Toronto is notorious for heavily supporting bad sports events/teams that never seem to really pay-off, this better be an exception! One or two more exciting fights would help - and no, they don't have to be just Canadian fighters! Though I wouldn't mind seeing homeboy Sean Pierson getting tapped to fight, his MTL showing was great!

If James Wilks' was a sandwich he would be two pieces of wonder bread with extra mayo in between.

Just b/c this card takes place in Canada doesnt mean we want to see mostly Canadian fighters. This isnt the UK, you dont HAVE to showcase local boys for us to tune in and buy tickets.

So Bendo gets Bocek and Kamal gets Jim Miller?

I'm hoping Rory Macdonald smashes Wilks. At this point, Wilks must be the least interesting of all the TUF winners. Except Lutter, but he ain't fuckin worth mentioning. Wilks also beat DaMarques, which I'm still pissed about.

I'm liking this card although Velasquez/JDS would've been nice.
