Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Hughes/Alves to Headline UFC 85

Matt Hughes and Thiago Alves have confirmed that they will fight in a headlining match at UFC 85. As Hughes posted today on his website:

June 7th, in England, I fight Thiago Alves. The fight is confirmed, it will be the main event for the card. Dana just called me with the news. Chuck got hurt and couldn’t fight, so he needed a replacement and called me and I said yes. More news as I get it. No matter what happens in this fight, I’ve got Serra next.

Alves (14-3, 7-2 UFC) is coming off an upset victory of Karo Parisyan at Ultimate Fight Night 13, after which he was told by UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, rather prematurely, that he was second in line to get a shot at the welterweight title after Jon Fitch. According to MMAWeekly, Alves previously offered to fight Hughes at UFC 79 when Matt Serra dropped out due to back injury, but Georges St. Pierre got the nod instead.

The chance of UFC 85 being shown for free on SpikeTV is slipping away, but with this match headlining — and Bisping/Leben, Swick/Davis, Vera/Werdum, and Evans/Irvin already booked — it’s definitely a card worth paying for.

You gotta be kidding me! This will be a great card. Alves gets to help Hughes out the door, Davis will continue his under-the-radar asswhipping of everyone in 170, Werdum and Vera will man up and give a great showing. Plus whoever else shows up knows after the lay-offs, they gotta BRING it!

these comments are gold, especially the "fluid exchange one"

Vera/Werdum, Swick/Davis and Hughes/Alves make this card very worthy to pay for. Especially Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick - Davis is awesome on the ground and can box then there is swick who is good with submissions and has a very good sprawl. Good fight.

I agree that $50 is alot but there IS a difference between watching the fight at your own house and watching it at some noisy bar with people you don't know. Especially when all they can do is make stupid statements like "Serra Sucks!".

I invite 10 people I know to my house. Charge them each $5 bucks...BOOM...problem solved.

I'll do whatever I have to to see the fight but I much rather pay the $50 and relax at my own place..

Hughes back in action seems worth the ticket price for those fans who were pissed about the Iceman being out. I'm not sure what Alves can do against Hughes but it should be very entertaining.

Knightrida's right. I go to a bar and pay $5 to watch UFC events. The last two times they didn't even charge us. There's no reason to pay 40 or 50 bucks when you can see the fights for, at most, $5 in a bar packed with other rabid UFC fans. I'm pretty sure most Hooter's show them.

It's funny how expensive in America the PPV's are, when I was living in New Zealand it only cost me 25$nzd (approx 22$usd). I like the card, I also like torrents.

I think it's the best card we can get considering the short notice.

Don't you guys have any bars to go see these fights at?? I can't remember the last time I paid to watch a fight (unless you count the $50 I spend on beer).

Iff Champion Vs. Champion was free on Spike last year than this should definatley be free....there is no reason to pay for this fight card, none at all....charge them in england and show it the us for free on spike....

Wow. Did you just get out of prison or something? On the outside we resolve our differences in ways that don't involve fluid exchange.

Good luck during this difficult adjustment period.

No one is going to want to fork over more money for a sub par UFC after a card like 84 just two weeks later...

.....sorry Joe Son.....i'm gonna go suck your dick know for showing me how big of a dumbass i am! :D

Man, Tim Sylvia's pussy is so negative. Just as I've always suspected.

If that's the card, I'll pay to see it. Some good fights there, even if there aren't many super huge stars.
