From what I’ve learned watching tru.tv, this was probably a Russian wedding.

Diaz did *not* have “octagon control” – he simply walked forward at all times hoping to get punched in the face. It enrages me that the MMA ruleset would even *consider* awarding points for that. A man who takes you down or pins you to the fence is controlling the “combat area”; all Diaz did was become the first man I’ve ever seen get his ass handed to him for 25 minutes while always walking forward. Condit became the first man I’ve ever seen kick the shit out of someone for 25 while always backing up. (I do give Diaz rounds 1 and 5 by a slim margin.)

All Nick had to do was start throwing leg kicks of his own, go for more take downs, etc. ALL Diaz did was box and there is a very slim chance you can outstrike your opponent when all you do is box.

@Fletch-I agree that Nick was the aggressor in the fight, but that is because Condit knew exactly what Nick was going to do. Each time, he countered Nick, by simply jogging away)passive aggression:). He studied Nick’s past fights, realized here’s a guy who hasn’t used any of his ground game recently, and he took advantage of that.
His reach was similar to Diaz’s long ass arms, and hence, Diaz as much as I am not a fan of his, hopefully realized in order to fight guys like Condit, you have to use your MMA skills, not just boxing.Now, if Condit was constantly taken down, running away everytime Diaz was in the center of the octagon trying to land punches, that would definitely have made Carlos look like he didn’t want any part of Diaz. Carlos was the better man that night. He outscored Diaz every round except possibly the fifth.

Dude would have checked that leg kick nicely. If it had been a leg kick coming.

PS – I will say Nick had octagon control and agression, but that doesn’t win you fights if you are getting outstruck the entire fight. Super Close fight. I guess it could have went either way depending on how you viewed rounds 1-2. 3-4 were obviously condits.

On another note: Thanks to whoever it was that informed me of MMAshare.com or whatever. I watched the Diaz/Condit fight and while I will admit that it was obviously not the banger everyone was hoping for, I did not see much discrepancy with the judging. Diaz should have adjusted his game plan way before the 5′th round. While it was evident that Condit’s gameplan was completely GREG JACKSON’S doing, it was still a game plan. I mean let’s be honest, it would be stupid to stand in front of Diaz with your back to the cage. Only an idiot would do that. That would be like Anderson Silva jumping down to floor to do BJJ with Thales Leites.

While I do enjoy watching Diaz bang/ do not enjoy the lay n prey/ do not enjoy wall n stall, I can’t help but state that Condit did exactly what his camp told him to do. Obviously since every MMA fighter on the planet trains at Jackson’s, they have fighters who have fought a Diaz before, see Cowboy. Cowboy came into that fight and did exactly what Nate wanted him to and what would give Nate the advantage. Obviously Condit was not trying to fall into that same situation and fight a fight where Nick had all the advantages. I personally think Carlos can and will win if they do rematch. Just my opinion. Based on variety of strikes, significant strikes, strikes landed, I don’t see how Diaz could have gotten the nod in the fight.
