Introducing, Ask the Potato!

(The only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask.)

We here at Cage Potato value our loyal readers so much we’ve decided it’s high time we started giving a little something back to you. That’s why we’re introducing our new feature, Ask the Potato.

You have a question? Maybe you want to know who our favorite Diaz brother is (depends how high we are) or who we think would win in a fight between Fedor Emelianenko and a cyborg Grizzly (depends if it’s on New Year’s Eve). Or maybe you even have a non-MMA question for us, something about your parents’ divorce perhaps. It doesn’t matter. Ask us anything.

Just head on over to the Ask the Potato thread in our free, easy-to-use forums and put your question down. If we choose your question, it will be answered on the site before God and your peers, so make it good. To save time, if your question is ‘Why didn’t I win the last caption contest?’ The answer is, because we’re jerks. There, you happy now?

We look forward to reading all your questions and disappointing you with our answers. Huzzah!

I think they want us to ask questions in the forums, not here in the comments section. So in essence, this "Ask the Potato" section is just a cheap ploy to get us to register for their shitty forums.

I'd rather go troll on Sherdog and the UG, thank you very much!
Geriatric Peon- October 28, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Too many idiots on the Sherdog forums, you have to sift through 10 pages retard speak to find a decent comment.

Silva is a different case entirely. The guy came from another fight organization with a good record that wasn't the WWE or WWF - whatever the fuck they want to call it.

Why is Brock's hair so fucking douchey? I'm sure it's for busting some pretty mean headstands or corking it in Sable or to rest shit on the flat surface or he's just a piece of shit. Probably all of those.

P.S. The movie "The Happening" did blow............

@ alba
They did the same thing with Anderson Silva. He beat Rich Franklin for his middle weight title after only a fight or 2.
It's all about the money. It's a business. It's main prioity is to generate as much money as possible on the bottom line. That's why you will see Kimbo in the UFC. It's too much money for them to pass up. At first everyone was saying that the UFC was to classy of an organization to hire someone like Kimbo, but now you hear Dana saying that he's extended an invitation to him to be on TUF.
What young, inexperienced, heavyweight doesn't know about Kimbo, and won't be scared to be in the ring with him on that TV show? I sharted just typing this. Kimbo haters, get ready!

Brock is a legit NCAA champ and already beat Heath who has fought some of the best in the world and more than held is own in those fights.
Right now the UFC is trying to capitalize on the Lesnar wave that is growing.
Its a big draw fight and stands to make everyone allot of money.
Had Randy come back and fought a can or less than it would not have made as much.
At this point in his career Randy needs big name fights since he does not have many left. Also Mir is fighting Nog already, who should have been Randy's first fight back.
So the Lesnar fight would be the next best thing in terms of a draw.

As for Randy's chance to beat Brock, dont count Randy out. He can game plan with the best of them and if he can keep the fight standing, ala the Gonzaga fight he stands a chance to beat Brock with the clinch. Brock's chin is untested and Randy has pretty good stand up. Keep in mind that Randy has submitted other guys before so its not outta the question that he could pull of a choke of some type.
If anything it should be an good gage and how far Brock has come in so short of a time.

When I poop, I poop bloody turds. Is this normal?
the glza- October 28, 2008 at 12:10 pm
@incognito

i agree. that's about the only way anybody's getting anything done to lesnar -- from the bottom, because that guy is just too huge and powerful to stuff. luckily for mir, that's the strongest part of his game is jj from the bottom. as we saw in the herring fight, lesnar will put you down, lay on top of you and ground and pound if you're on your back or lay and pray if you're turtled up.

best thing to do is get on your back, dodge the massive fists (good luck), and look for the lock/choke.

then again, that's what i thought he should have done against gonzaga. randy did the exact opposite and beat the living snot out of that kid.
Incognito- October 28, 2008 at 6:23 am
Hey, if Randy Couture suddenly develops a submission game off his back at 45 years old, then he really is amazing at game planning and adapting to new challenges. But before this fight it was an area he was lacking in and it's rare to see fighters just add something like that in at this stage of their careers. I suspect he'll try to out wrestle Lesnar.

But I'll def. be hoping for him to shock everyone and come up with a triangle or something from the bottom.
Acrocerid- October 28, 2008 at 5:46 am
Incognito...what if Couture knows this and is training submissions off his back? Holy hell, a hole in Lesnar's game...Couture would never find one of those!
Incognito- October 28, 2008 at 5:04 am
pretty much they're just feeding Couture to Lesnar to punish/dispose of Couture for his transgressions and legitimize the next big draw in the UFC. Once Couture loses in a boring LNP fashion (or possibly a spectacular GNP fashion) he will be a lot less interesting as an opponent for Fedor as well.

Given that Couture can't submit people from the bottom and is unlikely to out wrestle Lesnar, it seems like the worst possible matchup for him from a "chance to win" point of view. But of course, it's the best possible matchup for him from the dollars perspective, so I guess hes ok with it.

After Dana Whites Junior High remarks about Kimbo getting a shot as a TUF cast member, remind me why they extended Houston Alexanders fight contract?! Oh wait while Houston is a one demensional, power shot throwing, no ground game, ageing, limited experience, rise through adversity back story fighter like Kimbo... at least he doesnt have the beard. Its all so clear to me now. Dana WTF? throw Kimbo a limited contract, get him training around with top notch ground experts, throw him on a fight night live down at Pensicola for the troops in Kimbos home state, make a few bucks off his name and who knows maybe he will turn out to be a good investment as a heavyweight gatekeeper/attraction or better. Zuffa when you need someone to make you serious money thats not limited in business dealings by ego give me a call. Until then enjoy being the best fight organization in MMA that could have been BETTER!

I know I should post in the forum but can someone explain why all the other class's have a 1 pound over range and HW is 66 pounds?
Anonymous- October 28, 2008 at 12:07 am
@ Alba i think its
A theres a lot of money involved he has lots of wwe fans and a bit of a kimbo sensation factor
B UFC is still pissed at coture and want him to have to fight in cotures words another "big ape" hoping he'll lose and validate one of there rising stars
C the heavyweight division in the ufc is pretty weak due to being cheap and holding grudges
D by doing this they can weasel two five rounders instead of one.
E Cotures legitimate opponent noguerra is tied up in the reality show n slated to fight mir
F the one guy he did beat was herring who is one of the top ufc heavyweights
Anonymous- October 28, 2008 at 12:05 am
Brock is only on a 1 fight win streak but was still given the title shot because Randy wanted to come back and fight soon. They couldn't get Mir/Nogeuira because they were already booked and Brock is their most marketable HW so he got the shot.
