I think he should've at least let it go for a few more seconds, mazzagatti said in an interview that he stops them based on the toughness of the fighters and how much punishment they can take, houston got rocked against jardine, his legs were all wobbly and he still ktfo'd jardine. So what, let him take a few more just for the benefit of the doubt, he wasn't that hurt if he got up a split second later crying.

Alexander was toast the split second he hesitated when the two met at center...he hit the dirt and came up face first- excellent defensive tactic haha...had Mazagatti not stepped in i see Alexander's melon bouncing off the mat within seconds.

i ain't cryin.

Uhh yeah Houston was out like a light, even if for only 1 second. Had it continued, he would have taken even more damage with the same outcome to the fight. He lost due to a very fast right he didn't see coming. That right leg coming out before the punch by Irvin probably distracted him.. Funny fights.

Houston was out his arms were stiff. Karo was a tuff call, after he cuaght that knee he folded up like an accordian, but woke up pretty quick. April 2, 2008 at 6:29 pm
diaz did awsosome but i still think he is the cockiest little blowhard-prick ever.

when he face florian,sherk,penn,j-lau or anybody good for that matter he is getting his ass raped.

I have to declare bullshit on Mazagatti. Houston should get a rematch.

Roy said: "Now Mazagatti stopping the Pariysian fight is a whole nother story. Karo was fine and it was very premature."

Ditto to that! mazagatti's on my "s" list.

yeah definitely have to agree with the majority, Houston was definitely knocked out. It's way easier to complain about a stoppage than it is to fight back.
The man- April 2, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I think the Karo fight was the same as the Houston Alexander fight, they were both knocked out.

You could see Karo's legs go limp and him just fall to the mat. He was knocked out.

Good call by the refs on both fights.

LOL...Houston is funny. He said "he hits as hard as my kids"...he must mean that his kids can knock his ass out. The fight was clearly over after the superman punch but I wish Mazagatti would have let it go a few seconds longer to allow Houton to get his face smashed a little bit more so that he wouldn't have anymore lame excuses.

I wanted J-Lau to win, I wanted Pellegrino to win, but I'm not going to make up stories on why they didn't. Sometimes the guys we want to win get their asses kicked. Houston got hit hard initially AND on the ground... watch the replay. How can you say he was defending? Dude, you need to watch that again. He got hit square as fuck in the face on the ground and his arms didn't flinch. He was KTFO, KTFO, KTFO hard.
BS- April 2, 2008 at 4:18 pm
that was bullshit.. Houston got taken down by a phantom punch.. just knocked off balance. Those hits in the face were nothing. He still had his hands up defending himself
mmacoach- April 2, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Houston was out, twice. He fell, not like Tommy Speer, but he fell nonetheless. We have all seen that pose that looks like your underarms are burning, elbows 90 degrees... that is what Alexander was like on the ground. Didn't defend the punches he took on the ground. He was KTFO. I agree about Parysian (or however you spell it), but the ref has a better look. I wanted it to go on longer but at first glance, it did look like he was out. Not as bad as Tommy Speer, snoring against the cage. The ref only has a split second to make that decision, we have the luxury of a replay. I don't like Nick Diaz or Kenny Florian but they both showed good heart last night. Did I mention that Tommy Speer got knocked out hard as fuck, he was sleeping all the way through the post fight interview. lol

Great KO by Irvin, Houston was definitely out.

Mazagatti called it correctly.

"Super Stunned" = KO
Roy- April 2, 2008 at 3:46 pm
When he went down he took two solid, undefended shots to the face, he went limp on the first one, the stoppage was good, even if he was ultimately just stunned. If Steve hadn't stopped it, he woulda taken three or four more shots to the face.

Now Mazagatti stopping the Pariysian fight is a whole nother story. Karo was fine and it was very premature.
MMA 18- April 2, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I think the ref should've waited a few more seconds to make the call, Alexander got up quick, maybe he was just stunned. Super stunned.
Scuba Steve- April 2, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Perfect call. Alexander was out, Irvin missed the first couple punches after he was down then connected with a 3rd. Alexander would've gotten absolutely rocked unneccesarily if the fight went on.
MMA Forums- April 2, 2008 at 2:42 pm
There's been some discussion that Houston wasn't actually -out-, having only seen the match on crappy youtube compressed video it's hard to tell.

Was it a good call?
