Props to Tom Casino at Strikeforce for these shots of Frank Shamrock and Nick Diaz taken during a photo shoot last week in Los Angeles. The two fighters will meet at a catchweight of 179 pounds at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz this Saturday night; the action kicks off live on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Not that physical appearances tell the whole story, but it’s worth noting that Frank is keeping himself in prime physical condition to stay within sauna-distance of 179, while Diaz seems to be using the catchweight as an opportunity to drink as much salt-water as he wants. Not packing on muscle when you go up in weight class is like putting a sign on your back that says "toss me the fuck around." With both fighters bringing well-rounded striking/grappling skillsets, will size be the deciding factor here?

Frank will probably come in better shape and somewhat stronger, with a few extra pounds. Nick has really good boxing though so he might be able to mess with frank's game early with a couple good shots. As much as I like Nick I can't see him subbin Frank unless it gets to later rounds.. I wish Nick would'nt have to fight these retarded catch weight fights and just fight in a division somewhere with a steady schedule. Id hate to see him lose this stupid exhibition match and be considered as shitty from now on.

Anyone who thinks Shamrock is going to win this due to punching power or some sort of striking advantage is delusional. Diaz can take a hell of a beating. If Shamrock wins, it's a decision based on control, and even then it will be a bullshit decision made by judges who don't count submission attempts and strikes from the guard as being aggressive. Nick Diaz will "win" this fight. He may not get the nod at the end, but he'll be more active, put Shamrock in danger more often, and push the pace for the duration. The one thing you can't deny the Diaz brothers is Heart. They never give up. Nate got ripped off in the Guida fight, and if Nick doesn't finish this, he'll get ripped off too.
