British slugger James Thompson has lost his last four fights, and eight of his last ten. His career highlights include getting pwned in 11 seconds by Aleksander Emelianenko, accidentally starting a riot in Montreal, and losing to Kimbo Slice. All of which makes him an ideal candidate for Alistair Overeem‘s next victim. MMA Fanhouse is reporting that Overeem’s "TBA" opponent for this coming Sunday’s Dream.12 show will be The Colossus, who most recently got knocked out by Jim York at Sengoku 7. (Video of that fight is after the jump; yep, he’s still doing that ridiculous gong-and-dash thing.) We don’t expect Overeem vs. Thompson to play out much differently than Overeem vs. Sylvester; it’ll be a deadly striker vs. a befuddled brawler, and Big James is going to leave the ring with yet another concussion to add to his vast collection of brain injuries.

is there any way that we can somehow ban james thompson from fighting? i'm not saying that it cause i don't like the guy but he shows no sign of changing the way he fights and is likely to get knocked out or at the very least take some hard shots to his head just about every time he gets into the ring. and now he's going to fight Overeem? I mean, this fight isn't even competitive, and it's not like Overeem's gonna go in there and pull guard at the bell. I can't remember which fight it was, I'm almost positive it was the Kimbo fight though, but during his walkout it looked like he was showing signs of some brain damage. His head appeared to be shaking and his gait seemed a little awkward. I'm not some kind of doctor and I may have been seeing things, but I definitely remember looking at him and thinking that something is wrong with him.

Ya know, the more I think about it, the more PATHETIC this news sounds. Thompson is a gong-and-dash one-trick-pony with a jaw made outta balsa wood. I agree. This fight isn't even competitive. Which leads to the REALLY pathetic part: Overeem is dodging Strikeforce to fight Thompson???!! ...WTF? Clearly, there is no way that Allister should be considered a top 10 competitor. Number 6 on the CagePotato Power Rankings? I think not.... That list needs to get updated ASAP. Crushing cans and repeatedly sticking your knees into Cro Cops groin doesn't make you a Top 10'er.

Also, while I'm at it, I noticed that Herb Dean is #1 on the CagePotato Power Rankings for Referees. WHAT!?? HERB DEAN???!! Ben X 2, haven't you guys been watching this season of TUF? The awful reffing for Kimbo's fight? And then the next week waving around the arm of a man who has clearly passed on to the other side? Those were back-to-back examples of some VERY poor reffing. He needs to drop down a couple of notches. ....just my 2 cents.

Scott Coker, I am sure you spend your days reading the CagePotato reader comments like I do, so allow me to give you my two cents. Strip Overeem of the belt now, he is too busy beating the line cooks and bouncers of the world overseas to get off the juice (uh, allegedly) and defend his title. I think he is a great fighter, but get his ass back soon, or drop him. The Strikeforce belts are freakin cursed, man. At least Cung gave his up.
