While we were busy thinking of Strikeforce related April Fool’s Day pranks, it turns out that Strikeforce was busy finding a replacement for Mike Kyle. Due to the timing of the announcement, I’ve been skeptical to report it as real news. However, it appears that Keith Jardine will be stepping in for Mike Kyle on April 9th to fight Gegard Mousasi.
Go figure.
Since being released by Zuffa, Jardine has gone 2-1, winning his last two fights after losing to Trevor Prangley at Shark Fights 13. Jardine last fought on March 4th at Double Threat, where he picked up a TKO victory over Aron Lofton. Hats off to Jardine for stepping in on such short notice after fighting a little less than one month ago.
Still, this one looks like it’ll get ugly quickly. No one is denying that a good wrestler can give Mousasi problems. There’s always a chance that Jardine can outwrestle Mousasi, avoid getting submitted and grind out a victory. Just like there’s always a chance that you can become a millionaire off of a scratch off lottery ticket.
The Main Card for Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley now looks like this:
Welterweight Championship bout: Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley
Lightweight Championship bout: Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Light Heavyweight bout: Gegard Mousasi vs. Keith Jardine
Lightweight bout: Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm

commentsThe reality is that the 'pop' of the UFC brand alone is probaby worth it...but this way you can not pollute the UFC brand (think Ambercrombie and Fitch) while still developing and catering to folks who don't care about the name on the label (think the Gap).
By the way did anyone catch the April Fools edition of Price is Right? Hilarious.
this strikeforce thing might give ufc a run for it's money!!!
I still beleive Gegard will take it with his better stand up game.
