Jason Guida Blows It

Remember last season of The Ultimate Fighter when they had 32 guys immediately fight for 16 spots in the house, and advised everyone not to come in more than five pounds over? Well, Jason Guida doesn’t; like, at all. The Chicago-based fighter — who’s better known as the older brother of UFC lightweight gatekeeper Clay Guidaarrived heavy at the first day of filming, and was unable to cut down to the 205-pound limit for his elimination fight. According to MMA Rated:

One source told us that he thought Guida’s inability to cut the weight would be used to add some drama to an early episode, comparing it to Gabe Rudiger’s unflattering exit when he was unable to make weight during TUF 5.

Not sure if this makes Guida a pussy or a poser, but either way, he’s gone. And it’s a shame because a stint on TUF could have helped turn his fortunes around. Guida carries a 17-17 record and has bounced around a number of regional promotions in his five-year career; he had his most high-profile bout to date at Adrenaline MMA 1 in June, where he was submitted in the first round by heavyweight Mike Russow. (Fun fact: Guida went 0-5 with two no-contests in his first seven pro bouts, so he’s nothing if not persistent.) No word yet on who, if anyone, replaced Guida in his TUF entrance fight.

UMM whats the deal with Clay Guida being a "Gatekeeper?" He has shown he is more than that. he is not only a great figher but more importantly for the sport he is a great fighter to watch.

As for Jason, way top pick the wort picture. wow everyone takes bad pictures every once in a while but damn.

Just saw his latest fight versus Mamed (something or other) on ShowBox XC- the TNA of MMA.... He came into the match looking heavily out of shape with a newly shaved head. Not only did he become winded and outmatched by his opponent but had a rather suspicious loss of his mouthpiece during the last round and even sat down appearing not to be too concerned with it's wherabouts. When offered a new mouthpiece by the ref after an elongated amount of time had passed (crowd booing, mouthpiece apparently not in ring or possibly hidden for a "rest") he absolutely refused the mouthpiece. Finally his corner "found" the mouthpiece just after the ref was threatening to DQ him, then another delay for cleaning it. After this charade had ended he was the recipient of a flury of punches against the cage mesh, almost a standing fetal position. Referee jumped between the fighters calling a TKO and in typical Jason Guida fashion (zero class) he shoved the referee in the chest practically knocking him down and began voicing his disbelief that he had lost, then sat on the floor of the cage moping. Not only did he not show any type of sportsmanship to his opponent after the match but was nowwhere to be seen as the cameras interviewed Mamed. Clay shows a great deal of support by being in his brothers corner for support and Jason blows it again in an amazing display of being out of shape and having zero sportsmanship. Sad.

I think Guida is a bust! I've seen his last two fights in the Chicagoland area and he sucks. Granted his fight against Russow was a fill in cause Monson was injured. He's had many opportunities to excel. If he had only 1 oz. of Clay in him he would be a much better fighter. Seen him fight Khalidov last Friday night @ the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, In. he did make weight but looked sluggish and frankly looked like he didn't want to be there. I root for the local fighters but I wash my hands of this Guida!

What part of being a professional fighter does Jason not get? Being who his brother is and what kind of outstanding fight ethic he has does Jason think the UFC wants soft fighters?
With as many fights as Jason has had, he knows what he had to do and by not doing it shows he has issues he needs to address before reaching the top level.
You can't win if you don't make weight

i dont know the full story....but if you cant make 205 then you shouldn't be there....jason guida had the biggest shot in his career and he blew it...the ufc doesnt' need posers like jason guida who are only good for pre lim fights for a ufc FIGHT NIGHT card..let alone a ppv....good riddance to jason, he's a disgrace to the guida name

Just because someone couldn't make weight does not make them a pussy or poser. Jason Guida is a chubby-looking dude, and it's probably pretty hard for a guy like him to make 205. Besides, I really don't think someone who writes MMA news articles has the right to bash a fighter like that, unless they have had plenty of pro fights themselves.
