Jay Hieron Draws Joe Riggs for ‘Strikeforce: Miami’; KJ Noons to Return Against Billy Evangelista

(Noons and Diaz on the same card again? Don’t be scared, homey…)

Though Marius Zaromskis line-jumped him for a Strikeforce welterweight title shot, Jay Hieron has made peace with the disappointment and is ready to move on with his career. "All good things come to those that wait," Hieron recently told MMA Junkie Radio. "Trust me, I’m going to make a statement in my next fight." If early reports are accurate, that statement could come against welterweight veteran Joe Riggs at Strikeforce: Miami (1/30), supporting the Diaz vs. Zaromskis headliner. Riggs was victorious in his last two Strikeforce appearances against Luke Stewart and Phil Baroni, and picked up a couple of wins last month in smaller promotions against two guys with losing records. Hieron is on a six-fight win streak, most recently scoring a unanimous decision against Jesse Taylor at Carano vs. Cyborg in August.

This month’s Strikeforce card is also expected to feature the MMA return of KJ Noons, best known for becoming EliteXC’s 160-pound champ after beating Nick Diaz via cut stoppage in November 2007 — then losing his belt when he refused a rematch. Noons hasn’t competed in MMA since his 48-second smoking of Yves Edwards in June ’08, after which he left the sport to take a few boxing matches. According to MMA Mania, his return fight will put him up against undefeated lightweight Billy Evangelista, who most recently won a decision over Jorge Gurgel at a Strikeforce Challengers event in November. If Noons can get past Evangelista, he’s a factor again. Will we eventually get to see a rematch between Noons and Diaz? Or at least another family vs. family post-fight brawl? Is there a statute of limitations on bitchassness?

@Da Spied Her
I'll take that as long as you can name me your favorite fighter in the UFC at 160

@skeletor I assume you mean the sperm bank, you nut hugger...
skeletor- January 4, 2010 at 11:29 am
Noons could beat any 160 pounder in the UFC take that to the bank.

@ Robocop:

There's nothing that says Noons/Evangelista has to be on the main card. And I don't think Strikeforce would bring on Herschel Walker just to have him squashed by Bobby Lashley. Not that it wouldn't be fun, in a freak show sort of way...

One way or another Diaz has got to get back in there with that shmuck noons and fix that.

Although Riggs might get him first.
He's pretty good when he has his shit together. But when he doesn't he's a waste of time. We just wont know where his head is at until the day comes.

edit: Oops I misread that. My eyes are still blurry as fuck. ;)

Heiron beats Riggs IMO.

So we've got 4 of the 5 main card spots filled up (Diaz/Zaromskis, Heiron/Riggs, Santos/Coenes, Noons/Evangelista) and Herschel Walker and Bobby Lashley also set to appear on the card. I can't see either getting dropped to the undercard since they'll both be highly marketable draws, so I'm wondering if we'll see them debut against each other. I'd take Lashley via 1st round camel clutch.

@Jugger
WTF is up with Charlie boy these days, is he in jail? I like the way that guy fights.

I think Noons will beat Evangelista, Heiron over Riggs and Diaz over Zaromskis.
This looks like it will be an entertaining card once again.

Don't be scared homey!! Poor Jay Hieron

Noons put the beat down on Diaz. If I remember correctly, Nick was resorting to butt-scooting in that fight. It was sad. And I'm a Diaz fan. Nick, in my mind, didn't deserve a rematch after the way he mailed it in in their first fight.

I'm sorry but I can't think of Noons without picturing him getting KO'd by Krazy Horse. That fight was hilarious. Bring back Krazy Horse! Or Kid Chaos, or whatever he's calling himself these days.

god joe riggs must be fucking pissed. he was in line for a title shot diaz decides to hit the bong next thing you know its diaz zaromski for the title and what about when Nog won the the interim title but brock got first shot at couture and then Nog had to defend said interim belt rather than immediately unifying it. god fuck everyone
jimbonics- January 4, 2010 at 8:33 am
I feel sorrier for Riggs.
skeletor- January 4, 2010 at 8:12 am
If Noons can beat Evangelista he could be a factor, but I don't see him winning this. He's been out of the game for a while now so we'll see how he fairs with the ring rust.

And man I still feel sorry for Jay Heiron.
