Jens Pulver Won His Second Fight in a Row This Weekend, You Guys, and He Did It With a Broken Foot

(Does this look like the face of a retiree?)

Former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver squeaked out his second win in the past three years over the weekend, beating 13-13 Central Illinois Combat Club fighter Wade Choate by split decision at Chicago Cagefighting Championship III Saturday night. Before the comments start pouring in about how, “Lil’ Evil should retire after narrowly beating a Choate with a record like that,” FYI, Pulver fought the majority of the bout on a broken foot he sustained in the opening frame of the fight, and according to several sources the one judge who gave the nod to his opponent defied the popular opinion of the majority in attendance that Jens clearly won the bout.

Pulver, 36,  who is 2-0 since he began training at Curran Martial Arts in Chicago last year tweeted the pics below of his foot during,  immediately following and one day after the bout, explaining that the injury occurred when he connected with Choate’s elbow.

The card also featured former WEC bantamweight champion Chase Beebe, who defeated Steve Kinnison by unanimous decision and Felice Herrig who took out Andrea Miller via first-round TKO.

"Shamrock is an overinflated fuck bag who picks fights with the quite literally morbidly obese. Pulver is a cool guy with a purple foot and two straight wins. No similarities at all.

Also your comment had a typo. You should retire."

The best comment I seen in a while. This one deserves a T-shirt at least!

Hold up. I think you assholes are overlooking that Pulver broke his foot off in somebody's ass. Hello? That's fucking BOSS. WAR Pulver.

It's kinda stupid to have the talk about his relevance and all that. JP himself recognizes that his talents do not match the current caliber of the UFC roster. He was on a 6-fight losing streak, if I'm not mistaken, and for a UFC pioneer who lost his way to not swallow his pride and not retire after such a fade-away from glory deserves commendation.

Whats wrong with a great former champ doing his farewell tour in the regional shows? Gives fans a chance to connect with him, bolsters local promotions and puts money in his pocket. I think it is more than ok for people to fight folks their CURRENT skill level at each phase in their career. When he was a child, he spoke as a child. When he was a man he spoke like a man. Now as elder statesman it's time for him to be the gatekeeper to the whole of top flight mma. Hotshots will either beat him or not and in doing so will prove a bit to themselves on their own road to the top while he gets to be showered with positive attention win lose or draw.

Everyone saying he should retire should also give him some ideas on how to pay the bills

As much as I like Jens Pulver and want to see him hit a winning streak again, but if he wants to out on top, he should have stopped a long time ago. I hate to say it, but it doesn't look likely that he's gonna square off against something other than a tomato can, and any win isn't likely to mean much.

I agree with hooligun in that the UFC should hire him as a trainer, and a "master" trainer at that. Have him rotate to different UFC training centers nationwide and use that as a big draw. In fact, Chuck should do the same.
dillweed- March 7, 2011 at 6:19 pm
better than random poster who has never been relavent
Smitty- March 7, 2011 at 6:04 pm
Broken foot or not he'll never be relavent again, AND he'll probably lose his next fight.
hooligun- March 7, 2011 at 6:00 pm
Open letter to Chuck Liddel;

In your new job as head of Biz Dev how about this;

Place one or two retired big name stars in each of the new UFC training centres as Consultant or Head Trainer or whatever.

Their name will drive membership, add credibility and keep them from having to fight way past their sell by date.

You are welcome.

He should still retire now. Please quit while you're ahead Mr. Pulver.

I really hope Zuffa offers him a job of some kind. They're opening a chain of gyms, right? He could be an MMA instructor and/or a wrestling coach at one. He'd get a long-term steady income that wouldn't endanger his long-term health, and he'd still be respected for his accomplishments. I think the UFC in turn could benefit from having name fighters be trainers at their gyms.

actually two typos, but who's counting. I can barley spell myself, and that's coming from a fromer spelling bee champ.
