Here’s the Riggs/Devela fight from Saturday’s Strikeforce event, which shows just how Riggs got his back effed up.

[Joe] is having a procedure this week where they freeze a nerve. Disc is impinging on nerve now. Similar pain to a broken hip. He is ok though.
After the surgery, they’ll know more regarding how long Riggs will be out of action. We’ll keep you posted.
i know corey, and i was at that fight. riggs got served! thats all there is to it. i dont think riggs will really want a rematch. i think he says he does, but will come up with excuse like he always does. corey is the real deisel!

I was at the fight too. Cory did hop around in excitement over his win. But he also went over and checked on Joe after he was done celebrating. Cory did what he was supposed to. Go for the win by any means, celebrate, then go to your opponent and check in.

Grant.. you are an idiot. the throw was legit, riggs got owned, get over it. Devela will be around for awhile, Riggs on the other hand will soon be serving fries and milkshakes, or possibly even greating ‘folks’ at WalMart, in Kentucky.
Joe riggs is doing all this bitching he was beat and he needs to take the defeat like a man. If he was to injured to fight then he shouldn’t have been in the ring. Cory is no joke and riggs wants this rematch, I think he should not even get in the ring with cory again he already left on a strether next time he could be leavin in a body bag.

er… swap every instance of devela for riggs, and visa versa haha. got those names switched. smooth…
that throw actually *wasnt* that good, look at how much of his upper body riggs had to torque into it to get devela over him. a good throw would be his legs doing all the work, lifting devela up hip to hip, and landing him flat not all tweaked out… the celebration dance without checking out his opponent was not so admirable either… touche.
Jamie…you don’t know your head from a hole in the wall!!! Devela is tough! He went in to get the job done…and he did just that! I don’t want to hear any whinning from a Riggs fan! If Riggs was hurt, he shouldn’t have fought! Instead, he whines and makes excuses for his loss!
Devela is a class act! Did you not watch him go over to Riggs to see if he could help him up? Did you not hear Devela state that he hates seeing “anyone” get hurt?

I agree. As an under-dog coming into the fight with Riggs, Devela had to prove that he could compete. He did that and more. Good for him and he has all the right to celebrate.

I have my money on Devela even when Riggs is in his prime. You need to give credit where credit is due. Riggs tried to toss Devela with a double-under. Devela stepped through and counter-threw Riggs with a 5-point throw. That is a difficult throw to get on anyone, let alone an experienced fighter like Riggs. Perhaps you haven’t seen Devela fight before, but he can serious mess guys up. I’m interested to see what’s next in store for Devela. He’s a name to reckon with at 185.
The records will show that the rematch is scheduled for April. Don’t trust google, when I know the source. Again, to all who are throwing personal insults for reporting facts, your lack of intelligence is showing.

The bummer here is that Devela was jumping around like a freak. He was psyched – I would be too. The bummer is that Joe had a bad back injury. I wish SOMEONE had the common sense/decency to say “fucking stop jumping around!”. Anyone every have a back injury like that? It fucking hurts if a tree blows in the wind 1000 miles away.
Don’t expect that someone would have mentioned this to the Devela, just food for thought. Nobody wants to see Joe hurting like that after the bell. Except maybe maybe Nick Diaz!

Get your facts correct. The fight was under review and has been dismissed, due to the injury. It was called even before Riggs got thrown to the ground. There will be a rematch at a later date. The scoring has been thrown out until the rematch.
He would have got his ass knocked out either way. Cory was on top of him pulverizing his face… It was the end either way. Joe should be thankful it was stopped right there… I was at the fight, it was “A WIN BY WAY OF KNOCKOUT DUE TO A BODYSLAM” It wasn’t stopped because he was injured, it was stopped because Riggs got slammed and was DONE, regardless if his back was fucked or not…!
Dude, it was the biggest victory of his career & it was a f**king good throw (as highlighted BY the injury). Not only that but he also landed in side control where he would be raining down some bombs. I think he has every right to go mad about the victory!
