Jon Fitch Has Landed More Strikes Than Any Other UFC Fighter in History, and Other Bizarre Facts

Aside from being the decisionest decisioner who ever decisioned, UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch also holds the record for the most total strikes landed in the Octagon — a staggering 1973, according to the new UFC Official Records page on FightMetric.com. Georges St. Pierre is a close second to Fitch with 1924 total strikes, but comes in first on the “Significant Strikes Landed” leaderboard with 892; Jon Fitch isn’t even in the top ten on that one.

Also surprising: Because of their multiple title fights and frequent decisions, Frank Edgar and Sean Sherk have average fight times of over 15 minutes. Plus, Anderson Silva is just one knockdown away from catching Chuck Liddell‘s record of 14 KDs, Cheick Kongo has the fifth-best takedown accuracy in the UFC, and the hardest-to-hit fighter in UFC history isn’t Lyoto Machida or Georges St. Pierre — it’s TUF 4 vet Pete Spratt, who only ate 0.89 shots per minute during his 3-4 stint in the Octagon. I'm not surprised about Spratt. Very few fighters can survive on the feet with him, and a solid ground fighter needs no GnP to coax a submission out of him; the openings are already there. Daley-Spratt would be interesting.

@RwR I agree. His opponents seem to have no answer because they find little or no weakness in his game. Koscheck tried to knock him out because of his "questionable chin," but was negated by GSP's distance game and superior takedown offense. Others have tried to expose his purported weaknesses, but have done so in vain.

GSP is the single greatest mixed martial artist we have seen so far in this sport. Some people are better in a single skill set, but there isn't another fighter who is so good in every area, and is able to put it all together.

The most suprising thing about this list for me is that Nick Lentz has 5 or more UFC appearances ?

I know i've slept through his last couple of fights, but i wasnt aware he had at least 5 fights in the UFC.

The longest avg fight time for someone like Gurge sucks ass, since he has no excuses for having it that high since he's never been in a championship fight.
Also, GSP's takedown accuracy is all the more impressive when you consider that a lot of the guys on that list are only on it because they rarely go for takedowns, and they scored a totally unexpected one on rare occasion. People expect it from GSP and still can't stop it.
@ Gorg - wasn't that Michael Bisping's stat?

I couldn't believe GSP wasn't on the longest avg. fight time top ten. Just based on the fact that he's had more title fights than anybody on that list except for BJ I would have expected him to be up there. If you take out BJ he's probably had more title fights than the rest of the list combined but still isn't in the top ten.

Of Chael Sonnens 1028 strikes landed, 320 of them was landed in the silva fight. Only two of them hurt.
So maybe we should add another category for strikes?
Strikes, significant strikes and insignificant strikes(Sonnens).

I dont like the absorbed thing...it should be avoided and they flip percentages...ehhh but then I guess 2 guys can circle for 5 minutes and recieve 100% or o.o sapm...I dont know if that makes sense to anyone.....I may just be rambling....
