Jon Jones Agrees With Urijah Faber’s Prediction That Jon Jones Could Be the Michael Jordan of MMA

(According to Jones, Michael Jordan jacked his swagger before anyone knew who “Bones” was)

Jon Jones was asked by a Rolling Stone reporter recently to address Urijah Faber‘s comment that he may well be MMA’s answer to Michael Jordan and Jones answered like a typical 24-year-old.

“I don’t really know what to say to that,” Jones replied. “I don’t want to sound cocky, but I do hold myself in high regard.”

A rule of thumb: Whenever someone says “but,” it usually means “Ignore everything I said before the but.” It’s like saying, “No offense,” after saying something incredibly offensive.

The article goes on to explain that Jones, who claims that he taught himself to fight by reading instructional books and watching YouTube videos, got turned down when he applied for janitorial jobs after he dropped out of college when he got his girlfriend pregnant. It’s interesting to think that he’s as cocky as he is considering a few years ago he was out of work, out of money, out of school and expecting a baby. You’d assume that the bumpy road he took to become a UFC champ would have taught him some humility.

Yeah I got RealTalk123?s email address..can’t deny that RT is stand-up and calls the Ace-an-Ace, and the Spade-the-Spade.
Hey RT…these fucks have deleted my posts in the past too.
I would be curious to have you post the topic and direction of your deleted posts.
I got $50 bucks that says there is a clear theme behind their motives.

I am taking Machida (outside of statistics to when), but there is a big problem. Machida stands outside most of the time (vs. close in) and Jones has that massive reach advantage...

At no point in that quote did he say, "I can be the Michael Jordan of MMA." In point of fact, he did not answer the question. So this headline is sensationalistic. All things considered, it was a pretty diplomatic answer. He avoided saying that it was an impossibility (which, let's be real, it isn't, Jones really could turn out to be the best the sport has ever seen- remember that he's only been training muay Thai and jiu-jitsu for a few years) but he also did not say, "Oh yeah, I'm totally gonna be the best." I wish people wouldn't blow things out of proportion.
JohnnyBlaze- November 3, 2011 at 12:06 pm
@stak40 once again no one cares about what you feel. i can tell your an ignorant lil scrub with few friends so just shut up please. End of story.

just remeber, somebody bigger and stronger and better ALWAYS eventually comes along and whoops your ass.
jones will be no different
macreadysshack- November 3, 2011 at 10:54 am
I didn't read all the comments so this may be redundant. He is just doing the exact thing that Chael is doing. Everybody knows how much of the fight game is about confidence and mental toughness. Some guys are naturally kind of mentally weak. Those guys need to create a 'persona' that is POWERFUL to counter it. Some guys (Anderson Silva, Wanderlei, Rua) are naturally mentally strong so they don't need some shit heel costume to put on to 'rise to the occasion'. I really think it is as simple as that. If Jones and Chael didn't act like tough, God's gift's to the world, they would either suck (like chael used to before his persona) OR not even have the guts to get into the cage even though they are good fighters (I'm talking about myself here - that's how I think I know).

Just because Jesus and religious people can go fuck themselves doesnt make me an atheist. What a dumb fucking planet we live on. Sheesh.
RwilsonR- November 3, 2011 at 9:59 am
You know who was really cocky at 24........... Michael Jordan. And what did it get him?
Andersons Knees- November 3, 2011 at 9:29 am

JohnnyBlaze- November 3, 2011 at 9:20 am

CP has gone downhill huge as a site, no denying that. i lost all respect and will never even think of rocking a CP shirt anywhere ever again
Stak40- November 3, 2011 at 8:33 am
I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting my opinion so here is...Jones' response was perfect. He avoided sounded too cocky and being dead wrong by agreeing with Faber's comments. However, he also avoided sounding fake and cheesy by being overly humbled. What I took from his comment is that he knows he is a badass and probably feels pretty invincible but knows he hasn't been at it long enough to be compared to Jordan.

That being said I still don't like the dude and think Rashad is going to teach lil brother a lesson.

Warsaw, please quit...Jordan without Pippen=less rings and thats it. Jordan would have won a ring and been the GOAT no matter what team he was on.
Me likey- November 3, 2011 at 8:30 am
the best fight anyone has put up against jones was stephan bonnar and that was his first ufc fight. people fighting jones give him too much respect now. the same way they do anderson silva. you have to listen to uncle chael and just go in there and fight the guy and not respect them so much.
TheWarsawExpress- November 3, 2011 at 7:45 am
Everybody knows it was Scotty Pippen that made the Chicago Bulls great. MJ was just a cocky ball hog. He liked Jesus way too much. Yall are having an MJ blowjob festival.
deco08- November 3, 2011 at 7:36 am
I really think the guy has amazing abilities, but (pun intended
) he is an a****le who has not shown that he is as mighty as he claims. It resembles the Lesnar buzz, a skilled fighter that is going to be unbeatable; however, as with Brock, I would love to see a fighter taking the fight to him, testing his chin to see how he reacts. I understand he is selling his fights and persona, but on the way, he is diminishing other fighters effort and skills.
schwm39- November 3, 2011 at 7:17 am
This is not the reaction I expected. What is the kid supposed to say? Obviously he is very good, and when your talented to that level YOU KNOW your that good. It's not like he came out and told everyone to fuck themselves and hes the best... All he said was that he was confident in his abilities.
Clyde- November 3, 2011 at 6:15 am
Christ, he said he "holds himself in high regard". He's a fucking world champion and you think that's arrogant? I don't hold myself in high regard, but I'm Mr. fucking average. He's 24, probably years away from his peak and he's looked untouchable thus far. Is he ducking Rashad, or just going out of his way to piss him off? Does that matter? Rashad will get his turn eventually and I like Bones chances when it happens. He's not being arrogant, he's just in a position that none of us are likely to be in any time soon.
myklhoey- November 3, 2011 at 6:10 am
holy crap man, lol, sooo your not to big of a fan, i dont think hw will ever fight silva, i dont no currently who can beat him excludin a luckey hit, but rashad i think has a shot we will see, sho-gun as well if its true he was hurt he may do somethin, i like cockey i like bisbng and miller and rampage and evans i just dont like this guy
Shifty-Eyed Dog- November 3, 2011 at 5:57 am
I really want him to get beat to a bloody pulp. This guy needs some humility beat into him.

I'm talking unrecognizable, reconstructive surgery-type beating. Hell, I want a CAREER-ENDING injury. please please please!!!!!

The only person I want to get demolished more than Jones is Bisping.
AndyInflammatory- November 3, 2011 at 5:30 am
"A rule of thumb: Whenever someone says “but,” it usually means “Ignore everything I said before the but.”" - you got weird thumbs bro.BUT.

I dont watch his interviews. I try to avoid ANY interviews these days. All you need to do is read the comments.

Bisping - arrogant - 'Pissping' 'Spitsping'
Rampage - 'ghetto' - motorboating
Jones - 'pious' 'arrogant' - article writers take issue with his word - constantly call him a liar.
Wandy - unintelligible - 'war wand'
Diaz - if you're on Middle Easy it's a pro-Diaz blowjob fest

you guys make me SICK - you and all this beer I'm drinking.
