Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera to Headline First UFC Show on Versus

(After this fight, Andre Gusmao lobbied hard to outlaw "6-to-9:30" flying knees.)

The UFC’s debut fight card on Versus now has a date and a headliner. Sources indicate that the show will go down March 21st in Denver, with the previously reported match between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera in the main event slot. When Vera broke news of the 3/21 date on Twitter, most people assumed that he meant 3/31, the same night as the premiere of TUF 11. But the Truth was right, and we feel just awful for doubting him.

Versus is available in approximately 75 million homes, compared to the 98.6 million that Spike TV can be seen in, which means that this probably isn’t great news for some of you. At this point, it’s unclear if the UFC will be putting together a Fight Night show on Spike on March 31. Three events in an 11-day stretch seems like a backbreaking schedule; remember, UFC 111 is also on the agenda for March 27th in Newark.

And speaking of Jon Jones, the 22-year-old stunna’s management team filed their formal complaint with the NSAC regarding Jones’s disqualification against Matt Hamill at the TUF 10 Finale. If you’re interested, you can read more details here.

You people need to get rid of that gay ass DirecTV and get Comcast. Cable is much better than satellite by far.

"6-to-9:30"? Please explain this. It's making my head hurt.

Bones is just the kind of fighter to nullify everything Vera thinks he's good at. His wrestling is better and his striking is brutal and unpredictable. I like this match up the for the same reason I liked BJ vs. Sanchez: guaranteed comeuppance.

Nah, not interested.
Kind of disappointed actually.
Although I'm sure that I wouldn't have known any better at his age either.

That blows for those of us in Canada. We get Spike up here but no Versus. Guess that's what the interweb is for....

@FreddyFaggers: Wreck this
FreddyFangers- December 17, 2009 at 12:52 pm
As long as you have a computer with fast internet access, you can pretty much get Versus.
FreddyFangers- December 17, 2009 at 12:50 pm
@Organ Donor......You have defeated us all with your epic failure at comedy.
hotsaucemonster- December 17, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Spike def. Verses by soft-porn counterprogramming with rear naked chicks. Round one.
Defender- December 17, 2009 at 12:41 pm
@ Skeletor - Thanks man! It was the 4 event deal I wasn't understanding.
skeletor- December 17, 2009 at 12:30 pm
@ Defender

According to there contract with spike they are allowed to hold up to 4 events a year on cable channels that are not spike tv. They just have never taken advantage of the oppurtunity. Also in another post I read somewhere they asked DW about WEC going to pay per view. He said it was always his goal but if they did it, it would probably be a co promotion with the UFC. Maybe this is the UFC's way of paying back versus for eventually taking away some of WEC headliners later in the year.

I hope Jon Bones smashes Vera up & sends him home, I honestly like "the Truth" but the Truth is he's been irrelevant for years.
Defender- December 17, 2009 at 12:12 pm
So based on some of the other posts I'm reading looks like it both Spike and Vs.

That doesn't make me feel AS bad. Just that I am going to have to go and acquire the fights on Vs. through questionable means.
Defender- December 17, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Sheps is right...Fuck Versus indeed.

DirectTV = No Versus = Balls.

I just can't imagine the UFC makes more money on Versus than on Spike. I wish I could find more info on why they did this :(
MMA42- December 17, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Yay for having Spike and Versus. Anyway, UFC 111 looks fun so far. I am going to do my best to get those tix (living in NJ anyway, so why not)
macreadysshack- December 17, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I thought this was going to be on NBC. What, that hasn't happened yet? I was so looking forward to the 30 Rock MMA episode. Kenneth is going to beat that fat guy's ass but it'll be okay because he'll make a funny hat.
