Josh Barnett Likely for 11/7 Sengoku Event, Will Be Drug-Tested in Japan

According to a story on Sherdog, Sengoku is planning to book American steroid aficionado Josh Barnett for their November 7th card, but not against Antonio Silva as was originally suggested; Silva is currently scheduled to fight at Sengoku 10 in September. Conveniently, World Victory Road Director Takahiro Kokuho is giving Barnett the benefit of the doubt regarding his latest positive test in California:

Kokuho expressed skepticism over the handling of [Barnett's] test samples by the California State Athletic Commission. Citing Kazuhiro Nakamura’s three-month suspension by the CSAC in September 2007 for a positive marijuana test, Kokuho said Nakamura’s protest and ensuing request to be retested using hair samples were denied. The encounter, according to Kokuho, left him wary of CSAC drug testing procedure. However, Kokuho said he plans to subject Barnett to drug testing before his November appearance with the promotion.



“If Josh Barnett gets caught in our doping control tests, we absolutely must deal with it,” Kokuho said. “We will be testing through our commission, along with the Japan Anti-Doping Agency, as well as the World Anti-Doping Agency. We are using the same anti-doping control agency as the Olympics. If a fighter is caught doping in our event, since we are in cooperation with JADA and WADA, it is our responsibility to make sure these findings are dispatched from us to the world.”

The good news is, the Drostanolone should be out of Barnett’s system by November. (ALLEGEDLY.) But seriously, if Josh Barnett inspires Japan to get tough on steroids, that only adds support to my previous rant. Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell if this is just lip-service from Kokuho. The Japanese MMA scene is sketchy enough that I wouldn’t put it past Sengoku to grease some palms, and make sure none of their fighters come back with positive tests. But there I go again, showing my Western prejudices.

As for his current trouble in the U.S., Barnett has only said "I have people working on it."

This whole thing with Josh, steroids and Affliction is just so surreal. Even as I replay it in my mind, I’m thinking, “No way. Did all that really just happen?” I was one of Josh’s biggest fans, especially after rooting for him and watching him tear up a path of destruction in Pride’s OWGP (fighting Big Nog and a prime CroCop in one night!)… but now… Geez dude, this whole situation is just laaaaaaaame.

The good news for Juicy Tits is that the advance warning about his being tested could amount to this:
Kokuho: Barnett-san, did you take recently or are you currently taking any steroids or other performance enhancing substances?

Barnett: Uh, no, Oyabun -errr- I mean Kokuho-san.

Kokuho: Well, that’s good enough for me.

It also gives him enough advance warning to cycle the artificial nut juice out of his system.

The bad news for Juicy Tits is that if he fucks this up, he’s gonna end up like David Carradine.
