Personally, I blame Chael "Epic Troll" Sonnen, who recently proved that even if you have a somewhat dull fighting style, MMA fans will start caring about you as soon as you accuse Anderson Silva of being an overrated punk who’s fluent in both English and Spanish. Sonnen’s recent success in playing the heel is only encouraging trash-talkers to get bolder with their call-outs, and the latest instigator is UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck, who has been on Twitter the last couple of days demanding that Tito Ortiz fight him. Considering that Koscheck is two weight classes smaller than Ortiz, this seems like a fight that Ortiz would actually take, although the HBBB hasn’t responded yet.
Obviously, the matchup would never be approved by the UFC or any athletic commission in this country*, even if Kos went on an all-Bojangles diet for the next three months. And in that sense, the call-out is virtually useless, outside of the fact that it gets us talking about Josh Koscheck for a few minutes one Tuesday afternoon. It’s like when somebody says "I’d kick your ass if my friends weren’t holding me back." In this analogy, the "friends" represent the 35-pound weight differential. You’re talking shit with a safety net. Yes, Josh, in the old days of the UFC, you’d occasionally see a guy like Keith Hackney beating the crap out of a guy like Emmanuel Yarborough. But I’m not sure that argument’s strong enough to convince Dana to toss out the unified rules on your behalf.
* Wait a minute. Are they just building up heat for a future headlining fight in Abu Dhabi? Oh God, no.

Kos calling someone a big mouth really? Whats next? Is he going to make fun of him for stupid looking blonde hair?
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:11
Fuck me, Koscheck finally said something that made me side with him.....
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:13
Sheeyit. If it turns out that there's money to be made, DW would work out a catchweight, and SOME state will sanction it. If they can't do it in the US, i hear the Fertittas are in with some grand high poo-bah sheik--rubber stamped and done, son. This is the next match for the ThunderDome!!!! Featuring: Cyborg Santos v BJ Penn Zimmer v Martinez Ken Shamrock v Aleksander Emelianenko Matt Hughes v some Gracie kid to be determined randomly Sando Match!!! "Lyin' Hard" Blevins v Jose Canseco v Kim Couture
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:15
I blame Jeff Monson for starting the "call out a tomato can" fad. Too bad Mike Thomas Brown's "call out the big mouth" fad never caught on. Tamden McCrory might still have a job in the UFC if it did.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:17
Viva Hate>>> Nice! +1
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:24
Kos could easily add enough weight to make the bout at LHW. He'd win, too.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:26
I hate Koscheck... but I fuckin' loathe Tito. This would be the one fight I wold actually root for Koscheck, even with the size difference. He's never gonna make it past Paul Daley though. Look how easy it as for Paulo Thiago? As long as Daley can keep it standing Josh is gonna get KTFO. Fraggle ROCKed!
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:27
A battle of the Bad Bleach Blonde Dos? This should be a hair vs. hair match.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:36
I agree. Let's hold in some trailer park in rural Alabama and call it "BATTLE OF THE BOTTLE-BLONDES"
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:41
UFC 115 "Destruction of the Douche" Frank Mir vs Matt Hughs Cheik Congo vs Michael Bisping Michael Jacksons Dr. vs 25 crack heads Main event: Josh Koshcheck vs Tito Ortiz
Tue, 02/09/10 - 01:57
I have Kosheck on this one all the way. Catchweight of 195. Kos could easily make it up to that. And with him being as thick and strong as he is, with his wrestling abilities, and 4 inches shorter than Tito, I think he could keep it standing and knock Tito out. I've got Kos via tko in the 3rd. This is one freakshow that I would love to see!
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:03
lol @ bojangles.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:12
@Viva Hate - Awesome! This is a match I would pay to see either Kos gets destroyed or Tito gets humiliated, I'd be happy with either outcome. Kos getting knocked out by Paul Daley and Tito getting knocked out by Chuck will be a great second prize also.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:14
You can't blame Chael for deciding to be the ufc's newest "heel". Fighters with non marketable styles and/or personalities have been held back way before they had to adapt this bs pro rasslin schtick. Machida, Maynard, Kimbo, Lesnar all their career paths have quite a lot to say about what will get one to the top quick and what won't. As someone who loves mma at its purest form, this shit disgusts me. Its been happening to some degree since in the inception of the sport and always will be a part of it. Its just worse than ever now. Let the fighters be themselves, let the fights sell themselves. Some guys like Kos and Tito are natual aholes, some people are naturally as exciting as watching paint dry, some are amicable and interesting individuals. Try selling the last group more zuffa.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:25
I guess I'm the only one who would honestly root for Tito on this one. Love him or hate him, Tito even in his own destruction does step up to the plate and take the fights that he talks enough shit to get. Kos is talking shit to a fighter who is two weight classes above him that he will never fight. I have to agree with CP on this that he's using the "you're lucky my friends are holding me back" technique. He's talking shit and calling out a fighter trying to punk him because he knows the fight will never happen and that's a total punkass bitch move. Maybe he could get whoever sanctioned the heavyweight match between Machida and BJ to sanction this one?
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:25
Haha, war Kos ;)
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:29
Would anyone be willing to pay to see Melvin Manhoeff vs Bob Sapp in a grappling exhibition match???
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:36
@mma samurai your point is duely noted grasshopper. This is simply irony, that's it that's all. Koscheck trying to do what Tito does really. Most people dislike Tito, many people hate him=oppenent is the fan fav, peoples choice. Koscheck needs something to keep him in the spotlight, so he goes after the most hateable to get some face time. This is the same shit Tito pulled years back, same dance different song. Who's to blame? JJ! This one put all the delusions of grandeur in Tito's head and made him cross the line from being fighter with some charisma...to douchebag extrodinaire. It's funny secondly as well because I would bet my precious potato chips that Kos would win......with a follow up question, by decision :(
Tue, 02/09/10 - 02:37
I love bojangles. Nothing like eating greasy food while surrounded by sweet tea and biscuit making old women and cigarette smoke. Yes, the bojangles I frequent allows smoking. The south pretty much rules.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 03:40
the enemy of my enemy is my friends something something
Tue, 02/09/10 - 04:35
I'd rather go back to watching Kimbo fight crackheads on youtube than watch these two mouthbreathers go at it.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 05:20
"...MMA fans will start caring about you..." Eeeeh... And BTW, Chael did not invent this. You know exactly who's to blame for it as well as I do.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 05:52
I'd love to see Josh Kick Tito's big yellow swollen knob gobbling head into the 5th row. Tito likes to call out smaller people because he wanted to a buck 185er as he put it(lee murray) and now he wants to fight coleman like he did ken probably 3 times to
Tue, 02/09/10 - 06:09
I don't know why CP is so immediately against this fight. Weight jumping is the future of the sport. The UFC has 4 dominant champions with seemingly no legitimate challengers, so let the freak fights fly. Would you rather watch GSP/Hardy BJP/Edgar Silva/Soennen Lesnar/Mir 3 or Koschek/Ortiz? I say lets make it interesting.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 06:41
Haha. How can you not love this guy?
Tue, 02/09/10 - 06:45
I think Kos could swell up to 195 decently. I'd even give him a chance. tito isn't a world beater despite the raucous sniveling he makes, just another arguable contender in 2010. Hands are about equal, both great wrestlers. tito would have the edge in weight obviously, but I'd give Kos an edge in aggression. tito is not a genuine angry boy IMO, more of a bully and a punk. I'd like to see it.
Tue, 02/09/10 - 09:59
@mma samurai - I have to disagree on that one mate. I think it only seems that way because Tito only calls out people who he thinks will be easy fights for him. Remember who he called out immediately after the UFC brought him back? Mark Coleman. Then who? Chuck Liddell. Koscheck on the other hand, might call someone out here and there, (mostly GSP) but he takes whoever they put in front of him. He took a fight with Thiago Alves on short notice. He took a fight with Anthony Johnson, and won, so it's not like he doesn't know how to throw around a 6'2" 220lb + guy. I don't think Kos is bullshitting at all on this, and if Lesnar-Couture and Kimbo-Alexander can happen then I don't see why this couldn't.
Wed, 02/10/10 - 12:19
No way Tito cuts to 195. If Kos wants this fight it will have to happen at 205. I'd wager that kos walks around at 215/210 as is. No reason this can't happen if both guys want the fight. Kos would have the built in excuse if he lost. Not much upside for Tito.
Wed, 02/10/10 - 01:06
@Bloodlust, couldn't agree more, I'm not what you'd call an expert on MMA, but I know I love the sport, and that's due to what should be what get's you to the top in this game, being Dedication, never say die attitude, athletic ability etc etc, but we seem to see a fair bit of WWE type matchmaking. MMA is a genuine sport with some of the world's best athletes as competitor's, and success should be gauged on your ability to win fights, however it seem's to be PPV buy rates and how much merchandise opportunitie's you can generate that will get you a leg up. Guy's like Kimbo, Lashley et al should be hand delivered to WWE headquarters and let the ATHLETES dominate the SPORT. Sorry, first time poster and had to get it off my chest.
Wed, 02/10/10 - 04:48
hand speed= Josh Size= Tito (his head alone has 15 pounds on josh) knock out power= josh wrestling= josh even with the size difference Cardio= josh more well rounded= josh biggest douche= ask coleman who he thinks, but i say tito
Wed, 02/10/10 - 08:58
Guy's like Kimbo, Lashley et al should be hand delivered to WWE headquarters and let the ATHLETES dominate the SPORT Im sorry but shouldnt Lesnar be their in your list as well hmmmm!!!! Aint shit athletic about lesnar Ohhhh wait he is white Sorrryyyyyy about that
Wed, 02/10/10 - 01:06
@macineboi - Apology accepted, just don't let that shit happen again.
Wed, 02/10/10 - 03:01
@ machineboi, apology's, sure wasn't expecting anyone to take my little rant like that! to set the record straight, yeah send Lesnar back , however he was an NCAA champion, but Wes Sim's for sure, wait til after UFC 110 and you can probably add Bisping, that Canseco turd you can just send straight to the County fair and he can take on all comers in a tent, I'm sure there's plenty more but I can't think of them right now, still stand by my point that the athletes should be the headliners, maybe Tito and Shamrock could continue their rivalry where it belongs, in pro wrasslin'!
