Kampmann vs. Alves in the Works for Unannounced UFC Event in March

According to multiple reports and independent confirmation we received this afternoon from a source close to the negotiations, a welterweight match-up between Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves has been verbally agreed to for an unnannounced UFC event in March.

MMAWeekly was first to report the news.

Both fighters rebounded from disappointing losses in impressive fashion in their last outings.

Alves, who is 2-3 in his last three fights submitted UFC newcomer Papi Abedi at UFC 138 earlier this month. In his previous outing, “Pitbull” lost to Rick Story at UFC 130 by unanimous decision.

Kampmann breathed a sigh of relief when Bruce Buffer announced he had claimed a split-decision victory over Story after debatable back-to-back decision losses to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez at UFC 121 and UFC Live: Kampmann vs. Sanchez. Compounding “Hitman’s” bad luck was a knee injury he sustained while training for a planned UFC on Versus 4 bout with John Howard in June that kept him out of action for the past eight months.

Fun fight.

Didn't know these two fighters had so many fans....I guess I will have to spend some time and figure out which one to place the money on.

If we add your 2-3 together we get 5. Tell you what "talking" SmackDaddy, lets see who can best predict the next 5 round fights that take place in the Cage?

Just how exactly do you go 2-3 in your last three fights? See, when a dyslexic like me can pick these mistake, you know CP needs to up their standards. Also, this will be a great fight. Suck it, Xeno.

I actually think Alves is a much better striker and kampman will more than likely abandon his gameplan to stand and bang. Nothing wrong with that when it's these two.

Iskander is right here. @Xeno… are you really going to criticize the use of “fan favorites,” especially when you string together words that read “a slight bit of a stretch?” Check yourself before you’re writing wrecks yourself, homie. This is a good fight for the fans between two UFC vets still in the mix, despite both being in the UFC longer than a year.
Iskander Neptu- November 23, 2011 at 4:31 pm
Hard core fans love em' both and want to see them succeed. Both bring it in every fight, both are nice dudes, Alves has more power, the Hitman better technique.
It should be an honest stand up war where both get to use their favored weapons. Nice !

@Iskander Neptu
That's your opinion - fair enough. I got mine, and other's comment how bad my favorites suck.
Yet, referring to them as "fan favorites" is a slight bit of a stretch. If that was the case, then both would not be trying to distance themselves from upset loses - and each would be getting paid something near what Tito earns when he loses - which is more in one fight that either of this guys brings in.
..and there is another idea for the Cage Onions and junior "G" men writers - why not do a original article on exactly who is a Fan Favorite in each promotion?

could it be for UFC in Sweden?

Martin kamps abs look like a mixture between the wonder woman symbol and whataburger.

It's an OK match-up, but not worth sucking on the crank of Joe Silva.
Iskander Neptu- November 23, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Nice! Joe Silva earning his keep. Two fan favorites in a perfect stylistic match up.
