Kenny Florian ‘Very Excited’ to Face Evan Dunham at UFC 127

On last night’s episode of ESPN’s "MMA Live", co-host Kenny Florian revealed that his next fight is close to finalized. As the two-time lightweight title contender said, "We’ve verbally agreed to fight Evan Dunham, which is great news. Phenomenal opponent, which I’m very excited about, and it looks like it may happen on Super Bowl weekend."

Ken-Flo is coming off of his unanimous decision loss to Gray Maynard at UFC 118, while Dunham — previously #7 on our increasingly-buckshot list of the 10 greatest undefeated fighters in MMA — recently left it in the hands of the judges at UFC 119, losing a decision to Sean Sherk that Dana White publicly called a robbery. As we wrote then, "it will be interesting to see if the UFC simply ignores the amazing incompetence of the ringside officials on Saturday night and keeps the kid full-speed-ahead on his rise to a title shot." Even though Florian is coming off his own loss, the matchup definitely feels like a well-deserved step up the ladder for Dunham.

It’s also another potentially sick addition to UFC 127 (February 5th, Las Vegas), an event that may feature Silva vs. Belfort, Jones vs. Bader, and Griffin vs. Franklin. Now that we think about it, a Florian vs. Sherk rematch would have made just as much sense here. Your thoughts?

this fight is a tough one for me. KenFlo is a local and Im a fan. Dunham is my favorite "up and comer." I have to stick with "jesus after they stabbed him" KenFlo and his razor elbows.

I love it when Dunham does that Ahkmed the Dead Terrorist routine.What.....?

Yup Dazed - you are right about KenFlo, he'll be with the UFC forever and he's a great commentator. So whenever KenFlo decides to hang it up he'll still be workin' for UFC... unless he goes FT with ESPN.

@ Hank. Aren't they talking carwin/Big country for this card as well? Killer.

Shaping up to be an epic card.

I still think they are saving G-Sot for a title fight in Australia, so they don't want to risk him losing to Dunham. No matter who comes out on top between Edgar and Maynard, neither are the most marketable guy around. So they give Sotiropopoupolis a fight he should win aginast Lauzon, and with the streak he is on, the UFC thinks that will justify giving him a title shot. Edgar or Maynard headlining a fight in the US is iffy on the crowd showing up, but against G-Sot in Australia it will be huge!

haha no doubt Cecils. Dunham is a beast, and I think it would've been better to give him someone like Sotoropoulis and hand Florian to Sherk to see how the rematch would go. Either way, it's going to be an exciting fight.

As for which ever fool is trying to say he can't wait until Florian is cut by the UFC? good luck, Florian will fight with this organization until he retires and then he will commentate. No doubt about that.

Silva/Belfort, Jones/Bader, Franklin/Griffin, Flo/Dunham... that's 4 guaranteed barnburners right there, if nobody gets injured, of course.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: friends don't let friends fight Evan Dunham.

I know it's been 4 years and the 2 fighters are a lot different now. But, the last fight sherk took florian down at will pretty much. So, I think it wise for him to increase his wrestling a bit more before taking on a true wrestler again.

I like Dunham, not so much a florian fan but, stylistically, it's a great matchup. But, can florian step up in a big fight? He's been criticized for that in the past.

I think it's a good thing that Florian didn't end up facing sherk. I'd like to see him spend a little more time developing his wrestling game with his new coach before he goes after the sherks/lentz/maynards in the division.

Let me put this another way....don't hold your breathe homie.

I am with Rex on this, this is gonna be a great matchup, and a really good fight.

I used to hate KenFlo, but he has grown on me... not like a tumor, but more like one of those left over parts from an undeveloped siamese twin that is really disgusting at first, but since it was your supposed to be your sibling, you learn to love.

Florian vs Dunham or Sherk vs Florian. Either would be a great fight. What about Dunham vs Sotiropoulos?

Great matchup! Should be a really good card.
Morningwood- October 8, 2010 at 8:19 am
Florian would probably get boths his eyes cut to hell while trying to guillotine choke Sherk for 3 rounds and then complain that he got robbed when he too doesn't win.
ArmFarmer- October 8, 2010 at 8:11 am
Sherk would just Maynard Florian anyway.. or Sherk him.. guess it's same difference.
ReX13- October 8, 2010 at 8:08 am
Sherk-Florian feels like a steb back for Florian, really. As a fan of both fighters, i really like this matchup.
NOTSOB- October 8, 2010 at 8:03 am
doesnt matter who fights, just as long as its not more lay and pray type BS anymore.
Morningwood- October 8, 2010 at 8:01 am
I can already here it. Like Fedor, Evan Dunham has never "really" lost a fight.... Bullshit. It was a close fight, he didn't get robbed, he lost a close decision. Fucking babies!

I'm betting someone gets injured before this goes down. So who would be the replacement?
