Kimbo Slice appeared on ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” recently to discuss his October 4 bout with Ken Shamrock on CBS. What followed was Tony Kornheiser dragging himself through an interview he clearly didn’t want to do, and Kimbo alternating between statements that are clearly false and those that are merely very questionable.
On complaints from hardcore fans who criticize him for being “unproven”:
“[Expletive] it. That means they need to step up to the plate, we fight, so I can be proven, like I am street certified.”
On whether his credibility was damaged when he struggled to defeat James Thompson:
“To a lot of people James Thompson was elite. He fought in Pancrase over in Japan. …James is a well-rounded fighter, man. He has a good chin. [ed. note: really?]“
On whether he deserves his celebrity status:
“I never consider myself a celebrity. Celebrities don’t go to K-Mart. Celebrities don’t eat at McDonald’s. Celebrities don’t go to Wal-Mart. I don’t consider myself a celebrity. I’m just a little squirrel in this big world and I’m still trying to get my nut.”

I've always liked PTI (ATH more) but I never liked Tony K's outlook on MMA. I generally like what he has to say but he seems so closed off about MMA. Maybe he's just old. (No offense Old, Bald, and Irish) I'll admit it though, I like Kimbo and I want him to win.

As much as it is fun to hate on Kimbo, you have to give it to the guy...he answers the questions correctly and does not think he is bigger than he is. He understands his place in the sport and that says a lot considering his upcoming opponent who is a pioneer still buys into his own hype. Oh and to Aptninja: GSP said that after his fights he goes to McD's. So maybe you need to educate yourself and then you won't come off as an idiot. With all that said, I am not a Kimbo fan, but I will follow his development because I think he does have potential and I think it is interesting to watch him grow and see what he is actually working on since he obviously does not have the same tools or pedigree that someone like Lesnar has and we don't often get to see someone come to the big stage that is as green as these two are.

Tony has all but said that he just doesn't 'get it' when it comes to MMA. Wilbon is a different story I think he's said he's at least tried to follow it a bit and 'Tard there seems to at least have an appreciation for it as a sport (or maybe he's just a better sycophant). Now I am not a Kimbo fan in the least, but I respect the fact that he is at least trying to be a legit fighter and he is working hard. He's also well spoken most of the time and does not come off as bad as half those retards on TUF do. Look at War Machine or the dog -criminal guy from this year. Its not his fault the way he has been marketed, that would be his promter and managment team. Every time I hear the guy talk about MMA its always about he is trying to get better and how he knows he's bottom of the pile right now. Love him or hate him at least he is giving an effort. I cant on hate a guy for going out and trying to get better. I hate to say it, but I have had enough of this toolbox. Toward the beginning of his actual mma career I fell on the the band wagon as did many others, but give me a fucking break, get out of the limelight until you actually fight someone of consequence.
