(Yeah, we definitely need to see this again.)
So, the South Florida Sun Suntinel has this story about how EliteXC’s collapse affects South Floridians (thanks for the tip, Fight Opinion), and it contains this rather amazing quote:
Rookie MMA fighter Kimbo Slice is already back in a local gym after his 14-second loss to last-minute replacement and UFC light heavyweight washout Seth Petruzelli in Sunrise.
Slice, who spent Thursday at one of his children’s school career day, is weighing his options with his agent Mike Imber. He may fight on the DREAM K-1 New Year’s Eve show in Japan, possibly a rematch with Petruzelli.
Oh man, career day? Poor Kevlar. I wonder if Kimbo was too embarrassed to talk about MMA following his recent loss, and instead delivered a five-minute speech about what it takes to be a porn company bodyguard.
Of course, the other notable thing about that quote is OMFG KIMBO/SETH II??? I guess Japanese fight fans are upset they missed out on such an awesome freak show and they want to recreate it on their home turf. Financially speaking, Japan is probably Kimbo’s best option going forward — either in featured matches against guys like Butterbean, Minowaman, and (fingers crossed!) Genki Sudo, or in pro wrestling. He’d be the next Bob Sapp, basically. It might be the best option for Seth Petruzelli as well, come to think of it, considering that his loose lips single-handedly sank a fight league, and he has to be something of an industry pariah at this point. So yeah: Kimbo/Seth, the rematch. It’s either that or going back to escorting porn chicks full-time, and that has to get boring after a while…

commentsNo thanks.
But on the other hand, this COULD be a good move for Kimbo. Say that Kimbo F's up Petruzelli in a very convincing manner. That would really help to paint their first match as a fluke and possibly, POSSIBLY, add some much needed legitimicy to Kimbo's skills.
I still like Kimbo. I still believe that he has the raw talent to be an effective MMA fighter. But it's still going to take years before he lives up to the hype that he generated in 2008.
And ditto to Ben about Kimbo going to Japan and becoming the next Bob Sapp. Also, Kimbo should SERIOUSLY consider going into the WWE. I mentioned both of these points about 2 weeks ago and I still think either would be a good move for Kimbo. I can totally see Kimbo being an awesome bad-guy, or good-guy, in the WWE. I know I won't be watchin' it, but the fake-wrestling fans would love it.
And since we're mentioning Japan, why don't they have an MMA organization on par with the UFC? In it's time, Pride FC was pretty impressive, but I'm surprised that nothing came in to fill that void. I was watching Pride FC SHOCKWAVE last night (Fedor vs Nog II) and they had 48,000 fans packed into the SuperArena. Think about it: 48,000 people, say each one paid $60, that works out to about $2.8 million. that's a lot of bread to leave on the table. And that's just the gate. Why hasn't anyone come in to get that cash? To me, it doesn't look like Dream or Senguko have the pulling power that Pride FC had. Or maybe Japan just isin't the MMA paradise that people like Frank Trigg tell us it is.
Afterwards, the girls taught Kimbo how to give a proper bl.ow.job.
I'm going to second seeing Kimbo-Petruzelli II. Honestly, despite Petruzelli's actual background involving years of training, the hype machine still tells me that Kimbo should whip that ass. We (and by we I mean the blogosphere as a whole) shrugged him off as a side show but at the same time it was universally agreed that we'd like to see him against a legit opponent. We got our wish and it was over in 14 seconds. Both Tank and Thomson hit Kimbo with harder shots than that and he didn't drop. I say we give this fucker another shot to prove himself until we call it quits. Kimbo's not the next coming of Fedor - hell, he might not be the next coming of Seth Petruzelli but everyone is allowed one "oops" moment. If anything, he deserves the right to redeem himself after being utterly embarassed on primetime network TV against a douche with pink hair. I'm a die hard MMA fan but - fuck it - I love a good comeback story.
Here's the list so far:
- Muay Thai kicks
- Front kicks
- Any type of ground game
- Bisexuality
- Short Jabs
- Distracting pick attire and mouth piece
- And he has to weigh two weight classes below Kimbo this time...not just one
Let's get it on.
fucking laughing too hard to string words together.
@ everyone else that isn't an ignorant racist: I would actually want to see kimbo/petruzelli II. i am not a kimbo fan but I'd like to see if his chin is really that weak. and yes...he will be the next bob sapp.
HAhahahahahahahh
I guess you have to act tough if your name is fucking Kevlar. It's like Kevin and Turd Burglar in one. But the combined power equals that of a bulletproof vest element. The speed lines on his eyebrows only ad to the majesty of awesomeness.
PS: I love lesbians. Byaaaah!
He'll have two retail stores in Tokyo for his merchandise, compared to Sapp's one.
Japan loves that guy!! At least we wont have to hear about Kimbo all the damn time.
If he was really serious he should take Dana up on his offer to do TUF.
It would get him attention again in the US and would give him the chance to train with some of the best guys around. Not saying Bas is a slouch but sometimes a little change can be good.
Oh and would you be bored if all you had to do was stand around in a club looking at hot ass all night?
So Dream huh? Yeah Ill stay up just for that match and watch it on HDNet :)
