Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

King Mo’ Pinpoints FDA Banned ‘Supplement’ As the Cause of Positive Drug Test

(“This? This is Crystal Pepsi. I saved a case from when I was a kid.”)

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani today and he *sort of* came clean about what the cause of his positive drug test was.

According to Lawal, he was taking a supplement called “S-Mass,” which contains the active ingredient 4-Chloro-17a-Methyl-a-andro4-ene3 – a methylated form of the steroid he tested positive for following his win over Lorenz Larkin earlier this month at the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine event in Las Vegas.

The supplement, which was also sold by other companies under the names “Superdrol” and “Halodrol-50″ among others,  is well known in bodybuilding circles as a “designer steroid” as it tok a while for the government to realize what the compound was. The problem is, the supplement isn’t readily available in your typical GNC, so either Mo had some lying around the house since it was pulled from the shelves a five years ago following an FDA ban, or he ordered the pills from a shady internet site that sells banned supplements. Either that or the supplement was simply an excuse that was a step up from saying, “Yeah, I took steroids, but I screwed up my cycle and got caught.” The difference is, taking the latter approach wouldn’t allow you to barter for a lesser suspension like ignorance does.

I wonder if NSAC will ask to see a receipt and the bottle of pills when Lawal appeal’s his suspension or when he reapplies for his license if he decides not to challenge his punishment.

Whatever the case may be, you would think that a guy like Mo who spends countless hours on the Internet studying MMA and boxing matches could have Googled the pills he claims he was taking.

Just searched S-Mass and this is the description.

S-Mass is the most powerful designer anabolic ever created and is probably the least expensive on the market. S-Mass represents a quality designer anabolic and an affordable price. S-Mass was designed to produce lean hard bodies. If you want t he lean hard look S-Mass is the product for you.
S-Mass is only recommended for the experienced designer anabolic consumer. Before using a suppressive powerful anabolic please conduct all the necessary research that comes with using a designer anabolic of this nature

@Raton - This isn't a tainted supplement thing. That's like drinking mike's hard lemonade and saying it is a tainted beverage b/c it has alcohol in it, when in fact it's made that way. The tainted supplement theory is when something is made to be within rules but ends up having something bad in it. This supplement was always a steroid.

I drank the ever-loving shit out of Crystal Pepsi. Also that other clear crap that was in funny-shaped bottles back then.

good point xeno, show up as an under dog, the people in the know bet on you you win. essentially a thrown fight. who would have figured fedor would lose to werdum who got b-slapped by arlovski. through a wild card like drugs in & you got people betting money on loaded dice

This place has talked so much about people taking steroids I have had a change of opinion. Before, I didn't really care. Its like people smoking pot, their business.
Then it was brought up that a juicer can throw a nights worth of betting out the window. So a guy shows up a little stronger, little fast, and with more acne. It's not a big difference most of the time. Lets just look at Reem, he is a big fuck, but it took years to get there....didn't happen over a 6-12 month window.
My new take is that its not my business to judge how bad some one wants to win, or how far they will go to get there. If have the new opinion that if a fighter juices, then gets popped. He is simply dumb, or should I say not sophisticated enough to not get caught.
Question is, if this a FDA (F as in Federal) why aren't the Federal authorities arresting people who test positive? Is taking steroids really illegal if the police hired to combat the use of illicit drugs, do nothing?
UFC Motto - the better you cheat, the more you'll earn. True?

Who didn't see this one coming. Same old story of tainted supplements. The UFC/Strikeforce should come out with a list of supplements they approve of and any fighter testing positive for anything else should be fired for good. That way they can't use this same bullshit excuse.

with sports & bodybuilding so popular you'd think the regular joe blow a goat could tell the difference between the stallones or stars & the florians. Of course, my bad washing dishes builds those arms

He should blame it on Siri by saying he asked her to find him "some ass", and ended up with this instead.

Mo looked very Thiago Silvaesque against Larkin there.
