10 Legendary MMA Fighters You've Probably Never Heard Of

King Mo Slated to Return August in Houston; Currently Training James Toney

According to a recent report on MMAFighting.com, Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal has been offered a slot on a yet-unannounced Strikeforce card in Houston on August 21st. Though he was born in Tennessee, went to college in Oklahoma, and does most of his training in California, Lawal considers himself a Texan by heart. No opponents for Mo have been rumored at this point, and few legitimate challengers to his belt spring to mind; Scott Coker may even want 205-pound standout Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante to defeat Mike Kyle in a rematch before giving him a title shot. We’ll update you when we know more.

In the meantime, Lawal is keeping busy by helping James Toney prepare for his UFC debut. Seriously:

Boxing legend James "Lights Out" Toney and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion King Mo Lawal both confirmed that they will be working together as Toney prepares for his MMA debut against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. The two already got some work in this weekend and will continue to train together as the fight gets closer. Both men are looking at the opportunity as a win-win situation for both parties. Lawal, being a decorated wrestler, can assist Toney in that department while at the same time improve his own striking skills by learning from one of the most accomplished boxers in the history of the sport.

Has Toney finally realized that he’ll need more than Juanito Ibarra’s guidance to survive in a cage with Randy Couture? Whose over-the-top trash talk game will benefit more from the Toney/Mo partnership? And how badly will you shit yourself when Lights Out defeats the Natural via three rounds of top-control?

Randy is an accomplished wrestler with a long experienced background. The only thing that will help Toney is SPRAWL.... there is NO way he can get any form of wrestling up to par with Randy. Sprawl and strike... that's all he's got.

But for the record... I would shit myself inside out.

Yeah, let me get this straight. Mo, one of the more intelligent, studious, and hard-working fighters currently in the game, is training with Toney, someone who doesn't seem very interested in the ground game at all. And you believe there's an equal amount of stand-up vs ground training going? Really?

Yeeaahhhhh, but King Mo's wrestling is explosive. He has good technique, yes, but his takedowns are mostly based on raw athleticism..

Mumbles is as explosive as a wet noodle. You do the math. His boxing is top notch, of course, but to think he's gonna be even remotely succesful at wrestling would be dum-du-dum-dumb.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Toney is still doomed, but Mo will help him survive a little longer than expected. Its a better partnership for Mo in the long run.
