Yea i've heard people say that he's just like "one big muscle" and i'm sure that works well in wrestling, almost to the point of giving him an advantage over his opponent. I dont know about bjj though, it just seems that he would be able to escape some holds easily but defending others (like chokes) would be far more difficult. Ulitmately, I think gnp defense might be hardest. He cant upkick to the degree it would be effective, and wrist control would seem harder as well as being not able to cover his head/face from blows as much as the next guy. I wish him the best in life but I think that includes this fight not taking place. Isnt he fighting in the "main event"? so, a guy making his amateur debut vs an 0-2 fighter as the main event? smells like exploitation

As someone else mentioned earlier, I think this situation is sort of a catch-22. If the taller guy wins, he'll probably be scorned for beating up Maynard, and if the taller guy loses, he'll likely be ridiculed for losing to a guy with less body (but probably more heart!) than most of us. We'll have to see how this plays out, but I don't like the situation at all...It's tough; we want to give people opportunities, but we don't want to see them get whooped-on either. Put on a good fight, guys!

This is one of the few times I think the athletic commission should step in and say NO WAY this fight isn't happening.
Aleks Emelianenko can't fight here. Ken Shamrock gets a small cut on his eyebrow and is stopped from fighting Kimbo, There are no stomps or soccer kicks and in some cases no elbow's on the ground, but this absolute non-sense is allowed to take place because of people wanting to be politically correct.

Calling dude a cripple and fucking with him because he is handicapped is wrong. He probably has more heart and balls then most humans. But it is hard to argue that this is not a freakshow.
In a sport that has eight points of contact, he has four. He is essentially grounded and gives up a reach advantage that is too ridiculous to measure. And as for his opponent, if you lose to him you will be derided for losing to a limbless 'freak' and if you beat him you will be scorned for beating up a limbless 'freak'.

I applaud Maynard for overcoming what would crush most people, and for making the most of his physical ability when people such as myself who have no handicaps make excuses for skipping working out, or binge drinking, or just plain lethargy. But at some point everyone must realize that a handicap is really a handicap. I admire Maynard, I really do, but I don't think this fight should happen. But since it is, Godspeed good man and go for the takedown early.
