Latest Wave of UFC Firings Claims Rob Emerson, Brad Blackburn + More

(Fabricio Camoes loads up on Caol Uno at UFC 106. Photo courtesy of Sherdog.)

The UFC did some spring cleaning this week, shredding the contracts of four recent fight-losers. In order of least surprising to most surprising…

Fabricio Camoes: During his brief stint in the UFC, Camoes drew with Caol Uno (who was released last week along with Lucio Linhares) then got choked out by Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 111. If you’re a relatively unknown prospect, you can’t really hope for more than two chances to pick up your first win in the Octagon. Back to the bush leagues…

Rob Emerson: His unanimous decision loss to rising prospect Nik Lentz at UFC Fight Night 21 was his third defeat in his last four fights, and dropped his career record to a grim 9-9. It was a little odd to see Emerson get this fight in the first place, as it came less than two months after his decision win over Phillipe Nover at UFC 109, but it’s just been too long since Emerson truly impressed. You hate to see that happen to such a kindhearted person

Brad Blackburn: Yes, Blackburn’s TKO loss to Damarques Johnson at UFC 112 was his second straight — following an earlier decision loss against Amir Sadollah — but the recent losses came after a three-fight win streak that saw him knock off the very tough Edgar Garcia and Ryo Chonan. I would have thought that Blackburn might get a stay of execution. Hard times, brother.

Jason High: Usually, the "one and done" policy is reserved for fighters whose performances shame their families. And yet Jason High has reportedly been cut after his decision loss to fellow newcomer Charlie Brenneman at UFC Fight Night 21. As his Octagon debut came directly after his knockout loss to Marius Zaromskis, High maybe had a little more to prove. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it happen.

@getoffme, I'm down in Australia, but I'd contribute to costs for that poster for sure, that would be sweet to see that sign in the crowd
Get Off Me- April 15, 2010 at 8:36 pm
In Montreal I want to bring a poster that says "You knew Soares. You knew".
If Soares is even remotely involved in the fight, I do not bet on it.
Dana for sure knows what's up, this is old hat in boxing.....After global expansion, I think that growing the gap between MMA and Boxing is on Dana's to do list....There is no way he would want to shine that kind of light on the UFC....but he did speak with Anderson for about an hour after the fight, I am sure Dana let him know how he felt and that was the last time he could ever try to pull that shit off again.

Renzo seems like the personable kind of guy that could be a fan fave win or lose like Randy, Forrest or Ace.
More personality than Matty.

He'd even be an excellent opposing coach for tuf. Too bad it wasn't him and Matt instead of toto/chuck.

But maybe they think the Gracie name gives them more promotional value by bringing them in just to clown them instead of building them up and keeping them around.

They didn't really give High a chance either IMO. Some people seem to get to skid almost endlessly and some just dont get a chance at all.

There can be no doubt about the tag team Champs "Anderson The SPiderManIWishIDidn'tHaveToDanceAllNiteCauseOfEdTheMoneyBagsSoares'StupidPlan Silva and Ed Money Bags Soares" I just don't understand why or how Dana isn't seeing it in this light! Or maybe he does/ is and he's tyring to keep it on the low low so it's not a massive conspiracy theory outbreak, which they can ill afford with all the new venues starting to open up for the UFC. If I were Dana I would make it "Perfectly" clear to the twins, that this is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Let's be honest, Dana isn't next in line for Pope or anything but I do believe he does want what's best for the UFC and what's best for the UFC is the continuation of honest and true fights. A little drama is good for the soul, it keeps people honest but when a fighter is using his fights as an illusion or distraction to hide the real game, something has to be done or the next person we see in the UFC is going to be about 60 years old with Spiked grey/white hair, a big mouth, not a straight bone in his body and who's name unfortunatly rhymes with DON KING! And no one wants that

I took Silva finishing in three or less, and he had plenty of opportunity

@ get off me, hit the nail on the head IMO, but I'd suspect they picked up more than $400K

-500 UFC multiple wack ass fights in a restrictive theocratic monarchy and then not having the common courtesy to straighten out the stupid tape delay shit so that 2/3's of the bars in this pathetic shithole were not even showing that shit. I finally found the fucking thing half way into R2 of penn/ edgar (apparently after the expiration of any meaningful action) and thought that I had stepped into an alternate universe were the UAE doesn't give a shit about bikinis and fight sports are approached like high school ballet productions to assure that no casual fan is overly offended by gratuitous violence. I almost had to go out into the alley and punch myself in the face a couple of times just to get my fix.

"Renzo Gracie's UFC future might be in question after his 'old'-looking performance against Matt Hughes last weekend."

Well, sure. He's loved in Abu Dhabi, and the UFC wanted his star power for the show. They don't need him now.

Thanks for being a legend, Renzo. Now get the fuck out.

100%....Silva is that good and Soares is that corrupt.
@Cecils Pupils
The list is more or less complete and much funnier now, how about that old country boy standing and banging too.
Sadly I too had this discussion with my friend after sitting through Leites/Silva in Montreal..... I never thought he would be so bold as to try it again though.

I would like to hear Dana White's reaction to such a theory.....I think deep down inside he feels the same way and when he left octagon side early I bet it was going through his mind as well.
nooger- April 15, 2010 at 12:43 pm
+ 100 @Getoffme for calling it right (in regards to the fight fixing). My friend and I were actually talking about this, they def bet on the fight being won by Silva via decision. Who honestly though this would go to decision after his 1st round destruction of Griffin.

- 100 @NOTSOB for being racist on the internet. I mean really? Who would've that that people on the internet would make racist comments. Actually you did give them +25, I guess thats okay :D

+ $50 @me (nooger) after I receieve my earnings after I bet on Shinya Aoki this weekend, who is the slight underdog against Melendez.

cecils_pupils- April 15, 2010 at 12:39 pm
@Get Off Me you forgot Country Brefass...

+2 for man handling yet another Gracie, but an old one at that
and +25 for slyly wiping his spit on Joe Rogan's hand

Don't cut Renzo yet!
I want to see Renzo VS Baroni or Renzo VS Gomi first. Then cut him.
Get Off Me- April 15, 2010 at 12:01 pm
+ $400k Ed Soares after cashing in on his bet that Silva would win via Decision.
+ $400k Anderson Silva for fixing the fight.
- 80 Anderson Silva fixing the fight.
- 110 Ed Soares for being part of the fight fixing and selective translation.
+ 65 Mark Munoz for devastating GnP.

+ 100 Renzo Gracie for showing Rolles how to take a proper beating in the UFC.
+ 20 Dos Anjos for making a brit tap to an arm bar.
