Lombard Could Get Title Shot With Win Over Stann at UFC on Fox 4

UFC President Dana White says that Bellator import, Hector Lombard, might just get a middleweight title shot if he beats Brian Stann in his UFC debut. “When you talk about cleaning out a division, there’s always another guy who comes up, even for a guy like Anderson…We just brought in Lombard. (If) Lombard beats Stann. … that (title) fight makes sense,” Sergio Non reports White as saying, for USA Today.

And, oh yeah, Stann vs. Lombard will headline UFC on Fox 4, according to MMA Fighting ace Mike Chiappetta. When a fan asked Chiappetta, via twitter, if the fight was set to be the main event for Fox’ fourth UFC installment, he replied in the affirmative.

“Yes it is (UFC on FOX 4). 5 rounds. RT @MMAdamMartin Hey @MikeChiappetta, is @HectorLombard vs. @brianstann the main event of @UFConFOX?”

So there we have it – Stann (12-4) will take on Lombard (31-2-1) in a five-round main event with immediate title implications. Stann is coming off a KO win over Alessio Sakara last month and Lombard hasn’t lost since 2006, in Pride, to Gegard Mousasi.

What do you think, nation? Should Lombard get the Anderson Silva treatment and receive a title shot after an impressive organization debut? Would he have a better shot against Silva or Sonnen, who face one another this summer at UFC 148?

Consider those questions while watching highlights of Lombard’s all-natural self smashing cats:

I would hope that Lombard would try to put Stann on his back

The only advantage Stann has in this fight is 4 inches in height. Not sure on reach. Stann cannot handle anyone on the ground and Lombard can go anywhere effectively. I see it being a short night for both unless Lombard gets all UFC debut jittered and gets exhausted quickly. But, I think it's a KO for Lombard late rd 1 mid rd 2.

If Lombard wins impressively, and Silva beats Sonnen, then I can't see a more reasonable candidate in the next few months.

This is about as surprising as my hangover this morning.

makes sense. I wouldn't risk losing a $$/sellable fight vs. Silva by putting him in vs. a wrestler (ie. Munoz) if he were to beat Stann. Might as well just throw him right at silva if he win

The dude looks like an utter beast when hes can-crushing. If he can do the same to Stann, it will certainly breathe some life into the MW division of the UFC.

If Lombard wins (and that is a big IF) he has to win via impressive stoppage to earn a title shot. If Lombard just squeaks one out then give him Bisping or Belfort after. But seriously, who is left for Silva at 185 that he won't just squash?

Is this racism I sense?

Not even Stann, huh? How do you think Stann will take it, Stak?
Stak40- May 4, 2012 at 8:50 am
KO/TKO. In all honesty I think its a toss up. I don't think it will go 5 rounds. I think its the type of fight both fighters look forward to and prefer to fight so its really gonna come down to either who lands first or who has the better jaw. Mostly I was hating on Lombard for padding his stats fighting scrubs and jocking Stann for being a fellow American and a Vet at that.

Dont think he beats Stann, Sonnen or Silva.
