Lyoto Machida Has One Hell of a Training Camp for Jon Jones

(Turn on captions for subtitles.)

It appears former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida has pulled out all the stops to prepare for his upcoming championship bout at UFC 140 with Jon Jones. Check out the above video, which gives us an inside peek at Lyoto’s daily regimen, with the exception of one truly disgusting aspect that could easily pop up on this season of Fear Factor.

The show, which I am going to ignorantly label “Random Univision Program #113,” states that Lyoto has packed on an incredible 22 pounds of muscle, and man does it show. Along with bringing in a team of physiologists and physiotherapists, Lyoto has even shrank the size of the octagon in which he trains, from 9 meters in diameter to just 7.5, forcing him to be even more elusive than previously thought possible. No word yet on how exactly he plans on making his precision more…precise.

Phil Davis has a shot, after he learns a few more tricks.
Machida... Jones' ego will prevent him from Wrestle-Mangling the piss out of the Dragon.. so, if the Dragon gets lucky with one of those Kiaaaai shots we might at least see his chin tested.

Don't like Machida. But styles make the fight. The Dragon will break Bones.

I don't know most, but from what I have witnessed - JJ has smoked all - and will continue to. He is just that good - but I see that his cardio is weak and he could improve that by chasing Dirtweed" Diaz around the triathlon courses.
Not to say JJ can't get hit in head - or be tapped out, but look at it like a pyramid.
. .
. .
To date JJ has walked up one side of the pyramid - he as about 2 legitimate defenses, maybe 3 if you give Shogun another chance to redeem his title.
After that, its like walking down the other side of the pyramid...where the talent in competition tappers down rapidly.
I have a bias for Shotokan, as I am belted from 30 years ago as a kid. This being said, Machida is not prone to being kept at another's distance against the ropes. Also, his submission record stands at 2 of 19 fights.
JJ on the other hand could trap Machida against the cage - and t-off. With so many odd angles, even the elusive Machida could be fucked fast.
If JJ can take Machida down (something that is not Machida's norm) then most will agree the length of JJ comes into play again.
For Machida, he does have KO strength and a patented Seagal front kick which is now officially endorsed by the American Dental Association....yet not against men as long and tall as JJ.
Machida is as worthy as any for earning his belt back, but with the trouble he had against Shogun, and the fact that Shogun was basically schooled by JJ, odds don't fair well for my fellow Shotokan Kata brotheren from Brazil.
If Machida, all men tire and his best bet is to do what he has has been doing, build endurance to go 6 rounds, learn to not get kicked, and to stay off his back.
If Machida fails this - his loss will signify the degradation of that weight class. It will become a joke, much like the tenure held by Silva and GSP.
If JJ really wants to set his legacy...he will do as he has, and run through the last 4 challengers, then bump up to the Heavies and see if he can repeat his performance.

I feel like Machida can win this if he is patient and executes his counter striking perfectly. I wouldn't count on him to win though. JJ will probably just plan to set him up for some sort of counter-counter striking. Is that a real thing? Well, it will be after this fight, at least.

@Xenophon - Why does everyone want JJ to move up so bad? He's only had one title defense.

If Jones dismantles Machida .... who is the most elusive...its going to be a few years of domination by the kid in black.
Let's hope Jones has more balls than Silva, and moves up in weight instead of sticking around and beating up this worthy.
Question, if not Machida....who can give Jones some trouble? After Rashad, and Hendo...the pickings get slim fast...

i am with toddm. i think if you are gonna beat jones you gotta get in close and make it an ugly slugfest. if you stay at the end of his punches he will pick you apart. it also doesn't help when he can punch you in your corner while he is standing in his. i do wanna see what he does off his back though.
ghostboner- November 15, 2011 at 8:25 pm
Medium if you send him the SST recipe you will fuck him up Chris Leben style. Now that he has to cut 20+ lbs he will be hungry as hell after weigh-ins, OD on spicy poo soft shells, make himself sick and gas out like Leben when he went on the chocolate binge.

abenormal @ Get Off Me FTW, well played today fellas. I think we are going to see Jones tested more than before, I am not so sure Lyoto can pull the win though. I really think someone has to blitzkrieg Jones and thats not really Machida's style but if Machida can get Jones off balance or overcomitting to something he could close the distance and maybe catch the champ, I'm looking forward to this one.
TheHulkSmash- November 15, 2011 at 5:43 pm
I'd bet my house on Jones as a 3:1 favorite.

Sorry. The intense 2.5 hour training camp (From 7:30 - 10:00, according to Machida) full of lazy positioning exercises as shown in the tape won't begin to prepare Machida for the hurt Jones is going to put on him. Machida's going to get steamrolled. Not even close.
El Guapo- November 15, 2011 at 3:57 pm
Bones' combination of power, skill and speed is no match for a karate whiz hopped up on spicy shit tacos. The Dragon... FTW!
skeletor- November 15, 2011 at 3:45 pm
@abenormal - Hilarious! Piss jokes will never get old
@Danga - Fuck you! You got old along time ago.
MediumRare- November 15, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Just drinking his piss is clearly not going to give him enough power to beat Jones. So I sent him my spicy shit taco recipe and some blow. That should do the trick.
Clyde- November 15, 2011 at 3:11 pm
Damn. Looks like gone are the days of him weighing in at less than 205 are gone. But if he's slowed down at all, it's going to be hard to avoid Jones's ludicrously long reach.
Get Off Me- November 15, 2011 at 2:53 pm
He's got a crane kickers chance in this one.

Watch again closely and see if you can spot the Jon Jones spy in The Dragon's camp! I'm sure Bones already has a feed from the three cameras recording Lyoto's training.

Jon Jones, urine trouble!
