Managerless Following Split With Shari Spencer, GSP Wants Ari Gold to Represent Him

(Piven following the chance meeting with St. Pierre in L.A.)

By Cage Potato contributor S.C. Michaelson

MONTREAL – UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre recently terminated his manager Shari Spencer after giving her the “it’s not you, it’s me” speech. Many speculated as to whom he would choose to represent him. Names like Drew Rosenhaus, Aaron Goodman, Mark Steinberg and other super-agents were thrown about. Since GSP is one of the biggest faces in the fast-rising sport of MMA, it would be a major coup. But who would GSP choose?

“I was sitting in my living room,” recalled St. Pierre. “I was watching my television and I saw this documentary about this amazing guy. He was an agent in Hollywood. He was a little guy, but he was a big shot. He could make things happen.”

The “documentary” St. Pierre is referring to is the HBO show “Entourage” which stars Jeremy Piven as super-agent Ari Gold. Gold is a brash, often crude man whose hard work and inability to accept no for an answer made him one of the biggest agents on the fictitious show.

"Look at the guy," continued GSP. “He spends all his time with the client. We barely see him at home. He’s always working hard for the client making sure the client is satisfied. That’s the kind of dedication I want. I said to myself, ‘I am going to hire that guy.’"

Patrick Cote, a St. Pierre training partner, doesn’t have the heart to tell St. Pierre that it is a television show.

“I mean [GSP] is so happy. I haven’t seen him that excited since…well actually, he’s always that excited,” stated Cote. “He’s a happy guy. But still, I can’t tell him it’s fake.”

St. Pierre recently described a trip to Los Angeles where he went to meet with Ari Gold face-to-face.

“So I went to L.A. to find Ari Gold. I look everywhere for ‘Miller-Gold Agency’”, but it was not there,” said GSP. “I call the operator; I look in the yellow pages, but no ‘Miller-Gold’.”

St. Pierre got discouraged and was about to head home until a chance encounter at a Starbucks.

“So I went to get some coffee and guess who I ran into?” asked GSP. “Ari Gold. I said ‘Hey Ari, can we talk business?’ He looked at me like I was crazy; I think he was hiding from paparazzi. So he came over to me and said ‘Hey, you’re GSP, you’re one of my favorite fighters, can I get your autograph?’ I was like ‘Sure sure’. Then I ask him if he would like meet up so we can discuss business. He agreed, so I’ll be coming out to L.A. next week. He says I can come by the set. I guess one of his big clients is shooting a movie.”

St. Pierre flew back to Montreal excited at the prospects of what Ari Gold could bring to him, still unaware that the show is a comedy.

I contacted Jeremy Piven by phone call and asked him for comment. The veteran actor reiterated how much he loves MMA, pointing to fighters like GSP and Chuck Liddell as being his favorites, and said that he’d love to have St. Pierre make a  guest appearance on Entourage.

“That GSP is a nice guy — a real nice guy,” said Piven. “Though I don’t understand why the autograph was made out, ‘To Ari Gold.’”

@Guilherme Some people don't like subtle humor, they want pee and dick jokes that are right in your face. I'm definitely not saying it's the funniest thing on Earth, but these comments are funny. Especially since most of them center around the fact that I comment at BloodyElbow. I expect to see them in each article I write for CP. And there will be more.

Yet another S.C. Michaelson abortion.

I could give you guys a couple references for good journalists...I think my 9 year old niece is available. I mean if you're going to post this shit, she would be right up your ally.

Poor guy, you got raped today. Kobe style.

Keep your head up, just not more BS. You gotta ease into it, slowly, just the tip.

You hit this site full force anal, and we didn't appreciate it.

You guys are better than this. It's not offensive, it's not funny. It's not much of anything really.

See, this I can appreciate. I'm not above criticism. And not everything is going to click or be super funny. I felt this was a funny premise, but the execution didn't quite synch up with that. I still think it's going to be hard to top "GSP has trouble finishing his dinner".

Yeah I have to say, Zeus is the fucken MAN for pulling of that interview with Lee, some of his questions were definetly brilliant an unique lol. There pretty fucken epic if ya ask me, gotta go Green too though!!! And ya CP, youve gone the way of Figthstinker..err linker, fightlinker, and Bloodyvags, cant get any worse from here anyways, least hope not. @ Chiggs

I'm in the same boat, MiddleEasy is now taking the top spot for my mma news, an interview with LEE MURRAY! Anyways CP pick your head up and dust yourself off, you can only go up from here. BTW i'm still waiting for my shirt, I can't believe people even have them, I thought it was a joke.

Unlike the rest of the mob, I still like the site. MRuss is good at what he does (snark and romos), ReX's Bellator write ups are essential reading, Benstein still got it goin' on in the writing, opinion and gambling departments.

I just wanted to voice my support for the other articles that aren't totally hacktacular. But hey, keep the guy around - the comments on this are fucking golden.
T_Durden- January 21, 2011 at 12:16 pm
The only thing worse than this article are the group of CP apologists that have simply become blind followers of a site, that no longer is. I used to love this site, but if the product is shit then let's call it what it is. Don't try to convince the rest of us that we're the ones that are being irrational by voicing our dislike.

The only good things about CP are Ben Fowlkes...wait, no he's gone. Oh well, we still have Fightpicker...shit! That's gone too. ehhh...well, you see my point.
Chiggs- January 21, 2011 at 11:57 am
And YET ANOTHER fucking reason why Middleeasy is fast becoming THE best MMA site going. Man this Bloodyvagina/Cagepotato 'merger' is goin to shit fast. Like really, another stupid 'ficticious' piece eh??? Wow

Now look - I've been training to be a writer for a bunch of years now, and I've got a pretty good chance of going pro one day although I've got some other things in the way right now, but I definitely know what I'm talking about.

This guy's got to work on his put-down defense, first of all. I mean look at these boards just lighting him up and there's no response from him at all... I'd call that first round of comments a 10-8 for sure. round two is going the same way so far, and if he's not careful, he's going to get knocked right out of this site.

And what's with these little jabs he's throwing out at a fighter like GSP? One solid story arcing right hand and this writer's out cold.

This guy's got potential, but he's got to get a handle on his formats - a good story plan from around the octagon can start from several angles, and I'm not sure he's going to go too far if he keeps leading with a satirical game plan every time.
Go back to training and find the old S.C. Michaelson and come back swinging. It's the write thing to do.

lighten up dbags -- it was funny

What are you talking about? It was terrible. Not a laugh to be had. LOL.
Heres your future- January 21, 2011 at 11:28 am
Wow, I didn't even realize that I had a login.

Anyway, I don't want to post my thoughts about this specific article. Instead I want to offer a solution to this website's lack of goodness since BF left, HIRE SEANBABY!

Many of you have probably read his MMA articles on They are generally pretty funny and show that he has a strong grasp of MMA and its history.

Just spitballin' here.
