Dana White has ruined MMA with the count. stand up is ok but when your ass is on the ground and my cardio tires you out and I choke you into unconsciounsness that is REALITY fighting. Seems the rules have made MMA a boxing mans game.. Submissions are sometimes hard to get and take longer.. Once the striker is on the ground and he cannot defend his guard that’s not my damn fault and this sport should not protect the damn strikers because people like to see knockouts.. That is bullshit and it is one sided and unfair to submission fighters period..

To this day I’d bet on a submission fighter over a striker in the street PERIOD!!!! I thought MMA was supposed to be a scientific experiment in martial arts, to see what art is superior in reality!!!!! What the hell happened to that premise??? All we get now are rules to protect the damn strikers.. It’s bullshit and not reality based anymore.. This is MMA this is not boxing, I do not understand the view of not going to the ground nor do I consider ground fighting ‘pussy’ in any way shape or form.

I know that the casual MMA fans like to see two guys step in and just punch each other out but this isn’t boxing and people have to start to understand the art of mixed martial arts.

My pick goes to Marcus if it does stay up, though.

Marcus Davis is under the illusion that standup fight = great MMA fight. If I want to watch two guys brawl it out on their feet with sub-par boxing I’ll go watch a toughman contest.

The guys who can flow seamlessy from strikes, to takedowns, to submissions are the best fighters in my book–and the most exciting to watch. That’s why I started watching MMA in the first place!

They both have good chins, so if it’s a stand up fight we’ll get to hear fifteen minutes of commentary on Davis’ scar tissue. I’d prefer he just take Lytle down and slap on the dong bar

Davis is a strange individual… He talks all that mess about wanting to stand up with his opponent… yet most of his wins come by way of submission. Perhaps he’s got a bit of reverse psychology going for him… Perhaps…

This is going to be a great fight no matter if its standing or on the ground.
Either way we win on this one. I was siked for this match as soon as Marcus talked about it after his last match. This is one fight that I dont see going to the judges.

He didnt mean anyone who ever has taken someone down is a pussy or that wresters are pussys or any of that. He just meant that when it comes to the fight between him and Chris the first person to quit the boxing match is a pussy, like a game of chicken. Again he means that because Chris and him have decided to box then the first person to go for the takedown would be a pussy because he wouldnt be able to handle the other fighters boxing.

Being a fan instead of a competitor I’m all for the ” I only wanna win by KO ” mentality.
I can respect a fighter who lays it out on the line and loses easier than a fighter who plays it safe and backs up the entire fight hoping the judges give it too him , not that I won’t or can’t respect the fighter playing it safe but as a fan it tends to make a boring fight. Leben v bisping is a prime example , can’t really knock bisping but I’ll never watch that fight tape again unless paid to do so.

Marcus said this before his last match….and who shot for a takedown? The Irish Hand Grenade. I think it’s stupid to call ground work “Pussy”, but I see where he’s coming from. We all know you don’t like to be on the ground, Marcus.

As for Turd, not all fans want to watch boxing 2.0, some of us appreciate the ground arts and the complexity they bring to MIXED martial arts.

I’d like somebody to go and watch the UFC’s last three PPVs and record how many minutes of actual ground fighting there is (televised fights). It’s virtually gone. The only fight that spent any time on the ground (that I can recall) was the Grey Maynard vs Rich Clementi fight. In spite of the stupid refs constant calls to “get busy” I thought it was a pretty compelling ground war, but the audience booed and Grey apologized profusely for taking the fight to the mat where he was comfortable.

All I hear about these days is “take-down-defense”, “hiding behind the jab”, “elusiveness”, and “boring-ass wrestlers.” I mean, Kripes, the Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin fight didn’t spend 30 seconds on the ground.

If the Mir vs. Nog fight turns into a kick-boxing match, I’m gonna pee-ode.

Aside from looking for the “Fight of the Night” and possible “KO” bonuses, I thought maybe Marcus was just displaying some sort of “boxer’s pride”, as they have both fought on a pro-level (though Marcus is more experienced in that end). Still, while Lytle would not be a “puss” in my mind for taking him down, I could see him obliging Davis for the entire fight.
