(“Whitemare” vs. “Young Guns” will fight over who has the lamest nickname.)
A welterweight match-up between DREAM 170-pound kingpin Marius Zaromskis and fast-rising Canadian prospect Jordan Mein is in the works for the June 10 Score Fighting Series event in Mississauga.
The news of the potential bout was first reported by TopMMANews.com
The winner of the DREAM welterweight Grand Prix, Zaromskis (14-5), who defeated PRIDE legend Kazushi Sakuraba in his last fight at K-1 Dynamite! Power of Courage on December 31, will be looking to pick up his second straight win against “Young Guns.” He finally got back on track after a disappointing 2010 that saw him drop back-to-back Strikeforce bouts to Nick Diaz and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and a no-contest under the SF Challenger banner for an eye-poke that left his opponent Wachim Spiritwolf.Interestingly, Zaromskis defeated Jason High — the last fighter to beat Mein — to win the DREAM title.
Mein (21-7), who is 8-1 since 2010 and has already fought three times in 2011 has beaten a pair of UFC veterans this year. In his last bout he defeated The Ultimate Fighter alumnus Josh Burkman at MMA: The Reckoning on April 2 in Orillia, Ontario and Joe Riggs by TKO at Wreck MMA: Strong and Proud in Gatineau, Quebec in January.
A win by either man could earn a call from the UFC considering Joe Silva has been closely watching Mein’s ascent up the ranks.
According to TopMMANews, other bouts being negotiated include Roger Hollett vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Joe Doerksen vs. Luigi Fioravanti, Antonio Carvalho vs. Doug Evans, Josh Hill vs. Roland Delorme, and Will Romero vs. Tristan Johnson.
