Marquardt vs. Palhares Taken Off UFC 118, Will Now Serve as UFN 22′s Main Event

With Alan Belcher‘s main event fight against Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night 22 (September 15, Austin) nixed due to an eye injury, it’s now being reported that the Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares feature scheduled for UFC 118 (August 28, Boston) will be pushed back two and a half weeks to serve as the Austin card’s headliner. Maia hasn’t been officially dropped from the UFN 22 lineup yet, though it seems likely that he’ll get a replacement opponent on a future event.

As for UFC 118, some shifting will need to be done to fill the empty main card slot, and potentially fill the hole that the replacement could create in the Spike TV Prelim broadcast. The lineup currently looks like this…

Main Card
Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn
Randy Couture vs. James Toney
Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard
Nate Diaz vs. Marcus Davis

Spike TV Prelims
Gerald Harris vs. Alessio Sakara
Joe Lauzon vs. Terry Etim

Non-Televised Prelims
Andre Winner vs. Nik Lentz
John Salter vs. Dan Miller
Nick Osipczak vs. Greg Soto
Mike Pierce vs. Amilcar Alves

So…Harris vs. Sakara on the main card, and Winner vs. Lentz bumped up to the Spike broadcast? Does that work for everybody?

I would rather see Lauzon vs Etim. I am hoping that Nate Marquardt turns out to be karma's messenger sent to Rousimar. And I hope the message that karma wants delivered "Eff You!". Or the golden rule would work too.

Nate's knee just got a stay of execution from the governor's office.

Carrot Top Vs Chris Angel,...for the Mabelline eyeliner spokesperson contract.

Joe Rogan Vs Carlos Mencia

Arianny Celeste Vs Rachelle Leah

BP Oil CEO Tony Hayward Vs Sea Sheppard Captain Paul Watson.

Barack Obama Vs Steven Harper

Kanye West Vs Brock Lesnar

Christine "Cyborg" Santos Vs Jens "Little Evil" Pulver

Yeah...the card just went from can't miss just solid. The Couture fight will probably be a one-sided ass the main event, Florian vs. Maynard and the bout that was taken off were the surefire matches. I like Nate and Marcus...but can't really get excited when both of them have no chance at progressing in the division. Nate doesn't have ko power...but has the range to keep Marcus away. I just feel that match might get a little slow. Marquardt vs. Palhares was going to be a sick sub...or Nate out striking him, plus title implications down the line.

Man, this sucks, I was looking forward to seeing this fight in Boston. What a let down, it is like the UFC got Boston fans in a heel hook and didn’t let go even after the tap, oh wait.

I guess I can wait a little longer to watch Palhares destroy Marquardt.

Also good call on moving the Sakara and Winner fights up.

It at least won't be as boring as Jake Shields vs. Anybody at UFN22

I had a feeling this would happen, and I'm glad! I like Nate more than Alan anyhows.

Maybe Belcher's baby got tired of having submissions attempted on him and finally retaliated. I'd rather see the Lauzon/Etim fight on the main card and Winner/Lentz on the prelim.
