Marquardt vs. Sonnen Reported for UFC's First Australia Show

Marquardt is on a three-fight win streak, most recently knocking out Demian Maia in 21 seconds at UFC 102. Sonnen has won his last two, scoring unanimous decisions over highly-regarded middleweights Dan Miller and Yushin Okami. It's an interesting matchup that raises some important questions: First off, does this mean that Dan Henderson has officially left the UFC? Last week, Dana White said he was certain that Henderson had been signed by Strikeforce, though his manager denied it. And hey, would Chael Sonnen get the next shot at Anderson Silva (after Vitor Belfort gets his) if he manages to pull off an upset against Marquardt? Good Lord. Thanks a lot, Hendo.

I think this is gonna be ugly. Sonnen is not a finisher and is not good enough to hold Nate down for three rounds. It should be pretty one sided. Either way whoever wins is still fucked as long as A. Silva is around this match is just a formality.

I can't wait to see Stephan Bonnar get KTFO; dude looks just like glass joe from PunchOut. Bonnar is one of the p4p best cans in MMA. He's got a great chin, big heart, gets cut easy, good cardio, Tae Kwon Do (lol), his name is close to boner, and he's got that long sweaty hear that flies back whenever he gets punched. Cans all over the world have something to learn from Bonnar. He gets big fights that somehow get hyped, he sounds like an idiot in press confrences, and he can hang in there and get punched for 3 rounds by anyone. he just does all the little things right. truly one of the great cans of our time.

I think Sonnen deserves this caliber of fight. It is no small feat to best Dan Miller and Yushin Okami.
With that being said, Marquardt is a better version of Sonnen. I like Nate a lot here...he should be able to use his grappling and power to keep Sonnen at bay.

I always liked Sonnen in the WEC, but I just can't get over that rogue rib he has sticking out. What is with that!?
However, in the UFC...he has some work to do. His win over Okami was very unexpected. He might have finally realized you have to give a reason for people to watch you. Lay and pray doesn't cut it (unless you're Gray Mannard for some reason) and while he did wrestle a lot vs. Okami...dude was always throwing down.
That being said...I look for a first round KO from Marquardt without any hesitation.

So Marquardt has to take a fight that does nothing for his career. This isn't MMA math, but Maia smoked Sonnen, and Marquardt smoked Maia. Sonnen should have to rematch Maia to get a shot at Marquardt imo.

Marquardt via KO 1:45 into round 1. I agree, this does nothing for him. As one of my favorite fighters this match disappoints me. Cro Cop vs Rothwell?? What a horrible style match up for cro cop. He is too old to defend the take down like he used to do so well. Expect a bunch of GnP and for Cro Cop to Sokoudjou midway through the second round.
I think this card isn't horrible but I might save my $45 and watch it online or something. Not worth the usual "UFC Party" at my house.

Chael is one of the biggest clowns in the middle weight division. Anyone recall when he said that he and Maia were both significantly better than Anderson Silva? Hahaha what a joke. Vitor keeps talking about how he wants more fights before anderson, basically saying he is scared and knows he will get rocked, so after that all goes down, I would like to see Marquardt rematch Anderson since he actually poses a threat. Chael doesnt stand a chance and I have no clue why chael jumps up in the ranks like this. But hey, this is the UFC - where WWE stars get title shots after a fight.

I am going to guess that KTFO'ing Sonnen will be for the greater good of society and that Marquart is feeling the burden of his career, to do something good with his success, something to help others and not always himself. Fair enough.

Fuck Chael Sonnen. Ever since I heard him say that whoever won between him and Paulo Filho was the world's best middleweight (Umm..Anderson Silva anyone?) I lost all respect for him. Plus, he goes out of his way to trash talk his opponents on a regular basis. Marquardt's gonna fuck him up BAD! I predict an even more impressive combo than the one he finished Gouveia with.
